Joe Cool, that's all I need to say...
4 December 2001
"You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" includes one of jazz genius Vince Guaraldi's greatest compositions: "Joe Cool". The short sequence is truly great and worth every Peanuts fan's attention. The rest of the 25 minute long special is pretty unremarkable, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Little Nicky (2000)

I'm embarrassed for this movie....
10 June 2001
I truly don't believe that any one thought this film was going to be good. What comes as a shock is how truly HORRIBLE it is. "Little Nicky" is perhaps one of the worst films I have ever seen. Every awful, poorly written gag and joke comes like a punch in the stomach, and it never relents. I'm almost surprised the film wasn't shelved, but since Adam Sandler is "hot, hot, hot" that just wouldn't happen. I was annoyed that the film did such poor box office (before I had seen it), since it seemed as thought Sandler and co. were being punished for trying something new. After seeing it however, I couldn't be happier that it bombed.

Wow! Now only if there was more.....
13 February 2001
What a tease! One of the most magnificent anime films I've seen, and that's it, no more. I believe there was supposed to be a television series to follow up, but it never happened. Either way, it's based on a large series of manga (which has never been translated) so at least Japanese fans had something to sate them. The highlight of this one is the giant mecha, or "mortar heads", very cool stuff indeed!

Here Comes Peter Cottontail (1971 TV Movie)

Another giant ball of fun from Rankin and Bass!
11 February 2001
What is easily one of the best Rankin and Bass specials, is also the most obscure. The story follows Peter basically traveling to different holidays (because Easter is lame) not unlike "The Nightmare Before Christmas". The most memorable scene is of course, Halloween. The enemy is very cool as well, an iron-tailed rabbit named, er, Irontail. I definitely recommend this for anyone who likes "Rudolph" or "Mad Monster Party".

Must be viewed at least once!

Yes, this is puppet pornography. Easily one of the most bizarre films I've ever seen, Let My Puppets Come can only be compared to one other film, Peter Jackson's excellently silly Meet the Feebles. All I can say is that you are in for an interesting 50 minutes. It shouldn't be exceedingly hard to find a copy, heck, it's on DVD.

There isn't language foul enough.....

"It's Only a Movie" is the worlds only musical about demonic possession[sic] it's also the worst film I have ever seen, bar none. Joseph Zaso has created something so sinister and so completely inept at the same time, it borders on torture. Sure, it's funny for about fifteen minutes. I assure you that you'll laugh, then it dawns on you that you have about 90 minutes of film left...it's not very funny anymore. I've seen this movie 2.5 times (don't ask), take it from me, if you find a copy STAY AWAY (of course, if you're brave you'll watch it at least once). You've been warned....

Wow, an atrociously crummy film.
27 December 2000
A truly useless film, the entertainment value is negligible, the fx are sloppy and stupid looking and the acting is horrible. I must say the most painful part would be the length, it's an hour and forty minutes long! Avoid this at all costs, this is Yuzna at his worst possible.

Alicia (1994)

Message far less powerful than visuals.
27 November 2000
I'm sure Balaguero was trying to create a powerful allegory for God, motherhood and faith with his short film Alicia, but none of that is very important. What's important is, the impact 5 minutes of film can have on a person. The visuals are nothing short of spectacular (particularly the opening "hemorrhage", and "feeding" scene). I'm not sure how easy it will be to track down a copy of Alicia, but I recommend you try.

Bishop of Battle is fantastic!
25 November 2000
First things first, avoid segments 1, 3 and 4. They are truly awful. With that out of the way, I must recommend (strongly) that you rent this film and check out segment #2, The Bishop of Battle. It features a pre Repo Man Emilio Estevez in one of his best roles. A video game addicted punk who becomes obsessed with the titular game. This is a great little piece of 80's nostalgia, and just a fun 20 minutes all around. Also, look out for the soundtrack, it contains some great punk tracks.

Homework (1982)
5/10
Odd in an ordinary way.
23 November 2000
I suppose you could call it a feature length after school special. Homework touches on some strange subjects though (I wish after school specials had been this interesting) including having sex with your girlfriends mom and how to cope with getting vd from a rock star. It's somewhat likeable, but I recommend watching it for the camp value alone.

The Nameless (1999)

You must find this film!
31 October 2000
Thanks to my incredible luck, this film happened to be attending the same film festival I was. Viewing this movie was perhaps one of the best (and worst) times I've had in a theater. The film is, well, disturbing to say the least. If you found yourself a bit panicky at the re-release of The Exorcist this film is going to have you in a cold sweat. No one left that theater unchanged! Finding a copy may be a problem, but hopefully someone will be smart enough to distribute it in the US. By the way, look for it as "The Nameless"
