A Knight's Tale (2001)
Not too shabby!
Whew, what a film. Being a history addict (especially Middle Ages and Renaissance)I saw the previews and was extremely annoyed at the idea that someone would insert Queen and AC/DC into a movie set in the 14th century. Needless to say, I had no intention of seeing this movie but was forced by my friends to do so. I came out of the theater, over 2 hours later, surprisingly satisfied that I had spent $8.75 for the ticket. WHAT HAPPENED THERE?!?
Well, the action scenes were pretty good, the dialogue was backed up by mostly-funny jokes, and the supporting actors did a great job, especially Bettany - the guy who played Chaucer!! (He did a great job playing a naked British guy/ingenius orator.) The plot was intricate and it flowed a lot better than I thought it would. And what about the modernization?...some of it was corny (the helmet flying into the stands, reminiscent of a foul ball) but overall, it was tasteful. Very tasteful. The music went with the dancing, costumes, makeup, and vice versa. Heck, even the Nike thing was pretty funny. Practically no historical correctness but hey, it worked didn't it? I liked this movie a lot, and if even one person becomes motivated to read about the Middle Ages after seeing this movie, I'll be ecstatic.
OH! By the way...did anyone see the fart scene at the end of the credits? That's some pretty funny stuff...I bet that'll teach people to sit through the list of names...
Little Men (1998)
Interesting...
I found this show accidentally while channel surfing and was intrigued because I have read the book "Little Men." The series is drastically different from the book (Nick's character annoys me; I think the show could do without it) but it is still fun to watch. Louisa May Alcott wouldn't approve, I think, but I still recommend the show. A great one for families.
