Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
Very, very funny!
I am a huge fan of The State and WHAS did not disappoint. I had tears streaming down my face because I was laughing so hard at some of the scenes. All of the performances were excellent! Especially Christopher Meloni and David Hyde Pierce. The scene where Janeane Garofalo and Joe Lo Truglio wreck the nurse's office had my friends and I laughing for days after we watched the movie! It is the perfect mix of very smart jokes and bathroom humor. Wet Hot American Summer is hands down one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. If you are sick of all of the stupid and humorless films that have come out over the past few years that claim to be comedies then watch WHAS.
Trees Lounge (1996)
"It's a GOOD deal"!
I am a huge fan of Steve Buscemi and I really enjoyed this film. I think that he really showed the audience that he is an all around talented guy. I grew up in a neighborhood much like the one in Trees Lounge. I KNOW guys like this! I went to high school with them. Buscemi really captured the essence and feel of a working class neighborhood. His performance in the film is one of his best by far. I saw Ghost World recently and it is nice to see him playing characters other then psychos. Sure he plays a weasel/tough guy like no other actor alive but Trees Lounge and Ghost World prove that he can project a real vulnerability. For my money, Steve Buscemi is the best actor in the business.
Night After Night with Allan Havey (1990)
Great show!
I thought I was the only one who remembered this show. This pre-Conan show was hilarious! But it kind of went down hill after Nick left. Does anyone remember the Mobley Motel!? God! This show made me laugh! They did an anniversary show one year with an entire audience and Nick came back for the show. He did a skit where he played a gay theater type guy and he made fun of all the late night talk shows. Some of the things that he said in that skit are still a part of my vocabulary to this day! I really wish comedy central would re-run some of the shows. Very, very funny television!
Crocodile Hunter (1996)
The best show on TV!
Steve and Terri rule! I love this show, not only for it's entertainment value but for it's educational value as well. Steve and Terri are great role models for kids. And they seem to have a great marriage and a happy family. In a world filled with divorces and broken homes it is so nice to see an example of a good family. I just hope Steve dose not get killed on one of his adventures! Croc Hunter is the best!
Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends (1998)
Great show!
I have recently discovered this gem and I am very glad that I did. Louis Theroux is brilliant and he never lets that innocent guard of his down. Even when he is interviewing the most ridiculous people. Louis is the best! And to top it all off he is very easy on the eyes! He is the thinking woman's sex symbol.
Galaxy Quest (1999)
Great!
I just recently saw this film on HBO and I was blown away by how funny it was. I avoided seeing it because of Tim Allen. I always found "Home Improvement" to be quite annoying. But he ended up being one of the reasons that I liked this movie so much. He played a great Shattner-like character. Simply, the best performance I have seen him give and to top it all off he looked great! Did anyone else notice how buff he looked in the scene with the rock monster where his shirt comes off? He's actually kind of hot in this movie. Alan Rickman is absolutely fantastic as the bitter, stuffy Shakespearean actor. I was a fan of "Wings" and I have a soft spot in my heart for Tony Shaloub. He does not disappoint, he turns in a very funny, heart-felt performance. Sigourny Weaver was better then ever and Sam Rockwell stole the show for me. I think he is a major rising talent. I don't think you have to be a fan of "Star Trek" to enjoy this movie. I can't stand "Star Trek" and I thought "Galaxy Quest" was excellent. Check this movie out! You will not be disappointed.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien (1993)
Some of the best comedy around!
I have been a fan of Conan from the beginning. Even though he was a little off when he first started out. Whenever I get a chance to watch this show (which is usually on Friday nights) I am always impressed with how funny it always is. Conan has evolved into a great late night host. And to top it all off he is very easy on the eyes! I do miss Andy quite a bit, but hopefully we will get to see his talents in the movies. If you have never watched Conan O'Brien before, check it out! You will not be disappointed. P.S. "Triumph the insult comic dog" is one of the funniest bits I have ever seen on any show.
The State (1993)
One of the best TV shows EVER!
"The State" was a brilliantly funny sketch comedy show that ran on MTV in the mid-90's. By far the best and smartest show that has ever graced MTV. Each cast member was extremely talented (especially Thomas Lennon) and every skit was about a million times funnier then anything that has been on "Saturday Night Live" in the past 10 years. There is a VHS tape that is available with about an hour and a half of "The State" skits on it. But this tape does not even come close to representing the best of what ran on the show. I hope that one of these days MTV will get their act together and either re-run all of "The State" episodes or put them out on tape. Or, an even better scenario would be for "The State" to get back together and have a TV show again. By far one of the best shows EVER on TV.
Prayer of the Rollerboys (1990)
My gosh! This is a horrible movie! But kind of in a good way.
This film is so awful that you can not help but like it. I first saw this film about 3 years ago on TV very late at night. Before I saw this film I never had an answer to the question "what is the worst movie you have ever seen"? There are so many bad movies out there. But after seeing this movie I can now confidently answer that question with "Prayer Of The Rollerboys". I even rented this film once and showed it to some friends who all agreed with me that it was the worst movie that they have ever seen. In my book it is a must see because it is so horribly ridiculous!
