True Lies (1994)

Hands down, this is one of the best action movies of all time. This movie and T2 are Schwarzenegger at his peak, although the real stars in this movie are the people who conceived and were actually able to carry out the action scenes. I'm looking forward to the sequel, but looking at Arnold's recent efforts, I'm not expecting too much. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

3 Tastes in 1

Life Lessons - I've probably seen it 10 times. You can refer to it as a 'short', but I get so wrapped up in it that I almost consider it to be a full-length movie. It's very close to perfect.

Life Without Zoe - Past comments have stated that this is the weakest of the three. I don't like to think of any of the stories as weak. I think the order of the stories is what is important. First is the tense art world drama, then the fairytale-like Zoe. Zoe doesn't have the punch of Life Lessons, but it's a relaxing follow-up. Enchanted flutes, princesses, sheiks, diamonds, parties, sunsets. I hate to use the word 'cute', but that's what it is - very cute, and that's not a bad thing in this case.

Oedipus Wrecks - Leaves the movie ending on a very outrageous and very funny note. This short is better than several of his movies (and I'm a HUGE Woody Allen fan).

No Delta coffee, but plenty of TWA tea

I was told to see this movie just because of one of the sex scenes. Wow. It turned out to be a really great movie on top of that. I love it when Kathleen Turner is over the top, and this is definitely over the top. It got me to go out and rent other Ken Russell films, but none of them compared (although I never saw The Devils, which I now want to rent).

Make sure you get the unrated version (red box) as opposed to the rated (blue box) version, or you will miss some crucial jaw-droppers.

Whatever will be will be

Rear Window is my favorite Hitchcock movie, but I think this is probably my second only because it has such a HUGE climax. When I hear the word "Suspense" I automatically think of Hitchcock, and then I think of this movie. Even if you know how it ends, your heart will be racing every time you watch it.

Not as odd as Harry
17 May 2001
When I saw this movie for the first time, I thought it was sort of odd, but also sort of boring. I was on a Hitchcock bender, and I had already seen the greats. I didn't think this was one of them at all.

I can't believe I didn't notice or know about the continuous shooting. (I rented the movie while in Brazil, and the box was printed in Portuguese, so I didn't read it). So I found out about the experimental technique and rented it again...and loved it.

It's very sinister and very homoerotic - not the commonplace for 1948 at all. It's fun to pick out where the edits come.

Zips up the back and no bones

This movie is hilarious. I was surprised at the level of bitchiness they actually allowed in it seeing as it was in the 30's.

Before I saw it, I'd heard that people would have parties that revolved around the watching of this movie. After seeing it, I know why. Glamour, camp, overacting, and girlfights make for a great time.

This movie scared me

Let this movie be a warning to party people everywhere! After watching this movie we all said in unison, "Damn, we gotta be more careful." Still with all its twists and turns and unexpected moments, it's an entertaining watch. I'm curious to know what events inspired the writer.

Little Reese Riding Hood

When I saw the movie 'Fear' with Reese Witherspoon, I hated her. She was too goody-goody. Then Freeway comes along and she blew me away. Her character is absolutely hilarious. This movie sort of rides the Pulp Fiction wave, but the white-trash fairy tale story and all the cool cameos really keep it entertaining. I've seen this movie several times and it always delivers. If you like twisted humour, you'll be repeating quotes from this movie for years to come.

Probably my favorite movie

I am always in awe of what a great movie this is. It's so original, imaginative, and laugh-out-loud funny. It's sort of odd in the way that a lot of the really funny moments happen around the main characters rather to them. It's a cultural experience, a cooking lesson, and a mood elevator all in one. I truly love this movie. The scene about the truffle sausages trips me out every time. You're missing out on a true gem if you don't see this movie.

Great Play...er...Movie!
6 January 2001
I think that when you see this movie, you have to keep in mind that it was originally a play and is acted as such. (You even get a curtain call!) Many of the cast members were actually in the play production. So when you combine the stage-style of acting and Rhoda's character, it is a bit campy even though it doesn't try to be, but that makes it good. Some might criticise the acting, but I thought it was amazing, and if you research the awards and nominations the cast has received for the performances on stage and screen, you'll see that others thought so too. This movie's theme was way ahead of its time. I wish I could go back in time to watch the audience's reaction when it was in the theatre. This is one of my favourite movies ever.
