Awesome
26 December 2002
Hands down the best movie of 2002. Daniel Day-Lewis and Leo are absolutely fantastic, the ScreenPlay is outstanding. The score is sensational, I'm listening to it as I write. Gotta love Kazaa. Go see it, it is worth the price of admission and the 3 hours you'll spend watching it. Be warned it is a little bloody. People will try to steer you off course with how mean spirited it is and how vicious it is and how all they do is try to kill each other. It is intended to be all of these things, that's the way it was back then. The only thing I can say to all of those who do feel this way is: Imagine if a movie based on the events of 9/11 were made and the terrorists behind the attack were made to be fun loving family people. Would you buy that? Of course not. Some movies are made to be brutal and this is one of them. Remember you're watching "The Gangs Of New York" not "It's a Wonderful Life." If you are against blood and don't like killings and beatings then this is definitely not your movie. If you like good film that will stick with you for a couple of months and will give you something to talk about with mature adults then please do yourself a favor and go see this. Notice I said "mature adults." This is also not intended for those individuals that laugh at the sight of a naked woman and have an IQ in the same range as their age. There is plenty of fluff out there for those that want everything handed to them on a platter and need you to check your brain at the door.

I think a lot of you don't get it

Warning: Spoilers
**********POSSIBLE SPOILERS THROUGHOUT**********

I've read some of the reviews here on the IMDB and one thing comes to mind: A lot of you have no idea what the movie is about, or just didn't pay attention to the dialogue. There's a lot of....

1) Why did the aliens come to a planet that's 2/3 water when they are harmed by water.

2) Why did the alien look so cheap.

3) The characters don't act like people really would.

Well allow me to try to explain it to all of you nay sayers.

1) There are a lot of explanations for this. One could be that they would have inhabited the other third of the planet. That's like what, 400 square feet. The world's a small place right? Another explanation could be that they weren't aware of the fact they could be harmed by water. Sure it seems silly but tell me, how does one know when they are allergic to a certain medicine or when one doesn't like a certain type of food. You aren't born with the knowledge that you aren't going to like steak before you even try it.

2) For those of you that don't understand the film I'm going to try my darndest to explain it to you. For those of you that did understand the movie but still had something bad to say about the look of the alien all I can say is that the Director is presuming not to know what aliens actually look like. Since none of us have actually seen them or know the extent of their existence he's not going to show us a tall lanky green alien with a huge head and big yellow eyes. That's also why all the scenes where we see the aliens the best is somewhat blurry. That was Spielberg's mistake with A.I. He used the same aliens from Close Encounters. Unless he has a few aliens living in his backyard I assure you he doesn't know what they look like if they do exist.

3) I find this totally untrue and I'm going to cite certain examples from the movie to show you that. The scene at dinner where Mel Gibson breaks down and then the children come over and hug him. I've heard it said that no child of that age would do what was done after having just been yelled at. He would most likely go running into the other room. I have a 10 year old niece that is actually one of the smartest people I know. Smarter than a lot of the adults I know as well and would have handled the situation the same way. Just because someone is a child doesn't mean that they always act like a baby and start whining and crying. And vice versa. Just because someone is an "adult" doesn't mean they always act like an adult. The best scene of this movie is another example of this. When Mel Gibson crouches down to his sons height and proceeds to tell him of the day he was born. How awesome of a scene is that? If it hadn't hit yet, that scene should have been pretty clear that this wasn't a movie about an alien invasion but rather something else. And that is most likely what a real father that thought he and his family was going to die would do. They wouldn't have run.

The Director is not an idiot and he is not going to treat the movie going public like they are idiots. That is why at the beginning of the movie there wasn't a disclamier saying that this movie is not really about aliens and that's why there aren't going to be very many aliens throughout the movie. He left it up to you to figure out what the movie was about. Obviously a lot of you had trouble doing so. If you wanted to see an ID4 type movie then go rent it. That may be the kind of movie that racks up all the millions but I guarantee you that the Director would rather his movie tanks while making it his way then it makes millions by being a cheesy alien film.

Fantastic!!!!!
21 May 2002
First, Lucas had nothing to prove with this film. Episode I was as fine as any of the original three and better in some ways. Second, he owes us (The viewers) nothing. He is doing this for our entertainment not to line his pocket books. The man has been a billionaire for years. Now for all of you who claim to be Star Wars "fans" but are disappointed by this film all I can say is that I'm disgusted by you. Episode II is not disappointing at all. The dialogue is not trite, contrived, tired and predictable, or any other words you don't know the meaning to but saw other people using them so you decided to use them yourselves. It lives up to the original three very nicely and tells you exactly what happened to make sweet Anakin Skywalker turn into the person we all love to hate, Darth Vader. As for the acting. Do you remember how horrible the acting was the first time around? Yet everyone loves those films and doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that none of them could act. So why the beef now? And I don't recall Lucas ever saying that he was a first rate director. His strong point is story telling and at that he is better than anyone, past or present. Which brings us to plot. The plot of this film is to protect the Senator from being killed and find out who is trying to kill her. Wow, that's so horrible. Star Wars' plot was to try and rescue the princess and in doing so get the Death Star plans to Obi-Wan. I can argue that that is a sub par plot. My point is, they are both great movies with great plots and both deserve to be thought of as so. If you don't like them you don't have to I'm not telling you to. But don't claim to be a huge Star Wars fan and then strike these two latest films off as lacking. I can not express how happy I am with this latest installment and how I wish Episode III was coming out next week. If you don't understand that then maybe you should go and see Spider-Man. As for me I'm going to go see Episode II again and remember why after 25 years George Lucas is still the most sought after film maker of our generation.

That is all!!!!

Awful
24 February 2002
Just Awful!!!!! I have nothing else to say about this movie except that it is plain awful. You can't understand a word any of them are saying, especially Brad Pitt. I'm sure most women won't mind anyway since the man is half naked throughout the whole thing. I happen to be a man though so when I see a movie with half naked men I want it to either make sense or at least be understandable. Anyway my final rating is two thumbs way down. If you like it, I'm happy for you. As for me, I'd rather watch Spice World again.
