A Drowning Man (2017)
A(nother) view on immigration
In "A drowning man", Mahdi Fleifel shows a day in the life of a Palestinian immigrant living in Greece.
The action starts with the basic human needs, the character just wants to get some money to eat and buy cigarettes. Until he gets it, the director builds a tale of desperation but without falling on a miserabilist nor melodramatic perspective.
It's a great short to watch another way of portraying immigration, different from the one shown by big media.
Sacrilège (2017)
Great narrative and script
"Sacrilège" tells the story of the well-known young man of the neighborhood that sees his own reputation fall apart when some money disappears from the mosque.
With a great script, a dynamic rhythm and a mise en scène that takes dramatic profit of the city stairs, the short is a reflection on honor, ethics, and power. Plus, the performances of the main actors manage to involve the audience and get close to the main character in just some few shots. Definitely worth seeing.
Salam (2018)
Going under the surface
"Salam" brings together two women who, at first sight, might seem quite different. But the eye of the director is capable of showing the other side and the spectator understands that they are not as the surface shows.
With great use of the out of frame, the director portrays the life of an immigrant woman where, although she fulfills her everyday tasks, the fear of the death of her beloved ones is constantly present.
