Host (2020)
Way Better Than Expected!
I'm uite shocked at how good this was! Very creative with the scares and uses the setting and technology to great effect. Acting is all solid and convincing, which I thought was going to be one of the weaker aspects. Does a great job building tension as well and catching you off guard without stuffing it full of cheap jump scares (although there are a few in there that feel a little cheap). Not sure why they all have geiger counters near their laptops, but other than that strange sound design choice the film is excellent and I would recommend if you are on the lookout for something different, especially if like me you feel like you've seen so many cliche films.
Deathwatch (2002)
Underated Horror War Film
I saw this back in 2003 on VHS and then again recently and it still holds up very well when a lot of horror films from that time don't. It's not perfect but deserves a much higher rating than it currently has.
Stand-out points are definitely the acting and the set design. This has some of the best trenches put to film. Thick with wet mud, bodies and rats. The film boasts excellent atmosphere and the few CGI effects are not nearly as bad as I remember. Considering the budget this film has no right to look and be as well acted as it is.
Give it a try if you haven't already. It certainly deserves your time much more than the score would suggest.
