Into the Dark: The Body (2018)
Good smart assassin Halloween movie
I thoroughly enjoyed this show/film. Most of the characters are great! The second half was a little slower, but if you are a fan of dark humor serial killer movies, you will want to add this to your list! Bateman did an excellent job as the killer!
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
This was like "The Others" and "Fried Green Tomatoes" mixed together.
This was a good show. Not super original and a bit predictable. Definitely based on the original "Turn of the Screw" ghost story. I would call it a mix of "The Others" and "Fried Green Tomatoes." So if you love watching those movies, this show is for you! I am a ghost story fan (fan of all horror genres). I don't really like entertainment that makes me cry. So I am a bit split, hence the 6/10 rating. This show was spooky and suspenseful at times, then touching at others, and (for me) pretty darn sad sometimes, especially the end. I had two things that I didn't like about the show. One, the "dream hopping" or time jumping, or whatever was pushed too far. I understand the need for this in the story, but it was done too much to the point that by the end of many episodes I had a headache and felt frustrated. Could have made the point before I was frustrated and totally over it. I know it helps you feel the frustration and confusion of the characters, but I could have gotten that before the viewing experience became painful. The second thing I didn't like was how much the last episode made me cry. I don't mind a few tears, but when there is a solid amount of the last episode that is making me cry, at the end I have a headache and feel like a mess and am kinda pissed at the show for it. But thats just me. If you are kinda spooky, but love a good cry-fest once in a while, definitely watch this show!
Nocturne (2020)
Black swan feel, but a bit darker
This movie reminded me of Black Swan and Perfection, but was original enough to be entertaining. Without giving much away, I will say I would have appreciated a bit more explanation on the notebook or the origin of how it came to the first girl. I guess it leaves endless room and questions for sequels and prequels. There is definitely more there to be explained, and it was good enough that I would watch another one to find out more.
Hellyfish (2014)
Cheesy B horror in all the right ways!
If you are a fan of B horror movies and creature features you will enjoy this short. Completely over the top, with many classic movie references, I was laughing almost the entire time. Whoever made this movie must have also been a big fan of Jaws! The special effects are hilariously awful. Overacting that would make William Shatner proud. This and the other short named "the gray matter" are the only two shorts worth watching in the entire Monsterland movie. The gray matter is actually better, if it had not been the second short that was shown I definitely would have turned off the Monsterland, and my horror movie standards are pretty low. then I would have missed Hellyfish, and that would have been sad, because it is also pretty good. So, The Gray Matter is the second short, Hellyfish is the last short, skip the rest of the Monsterland film and thank me later.
The Grey Matter (2014)
Horrifically funny, by far the best short in the Monsterland film
This is by far the best short of the Monsterland film. If this had not been the second short of the film, I would have turned off the movie. From the writing, acting, cinematography, and director putting it all together, I was impressed as a horror movie fan. Though I haven't read the short story, I think Stephen King would be proud. This and Hellyfish are the only two shorts worth watching. This is second shown, and Hellyfish is last. Save yourself and fast forward through the rest of the film. Thank me later!
