The Kite Runner (2007)
Best film I've seen in many years
I have been reading most of the lately reviews. Even though I respect everyone's opinion, I just could not let the opportunity pass and not write my own little review and disagree with people who do not find the movie a moving experience. I saw the movie last night and I was completely amazed by the story and by how much it was accomplished with very little budget and very little known actors.
I can't believe people do not find the story powerful. I certainly did. The movie presents to us a group of people's lives changed by circumstances outside of their own will power. The story of Amir (the main character) and Hassan is so strong and refreshing to all of us lives, specially Hassam. I will look for the will in me to try to emulate the decency, respect of friendship, love to others, and dignity of that 8 year old Hassam. What an incredible boy? The hypocrisy of people extreme religion that while the stone a woman, they themselves go and abuse innocent boys and girls right before praying.
If I had to use one word for this movie, I will use redemption which is what Amir seems to search by the mistakes of his past.
I loved the movie and the story. I will mentioned that prior to this movie, another one that I did love is Pan's labyrinth.
El orfanato (2007)
Fantastic Thriller
I have to give a ten to this movie. I went to see it not knowing what the movie was all about and what a refreshing welcoming surprise.
The movie is wonderful and full of unexpected twists. If you like the SIX SENSE, THE OTHERS, El LABERINTO DEL FAUNO you will love this movie.
Gillermo Del Toro has delivered another fantastic movie and he is becoming one of the best directors in the world. I just love the surprising end, and all the twists within the movie.
I do not believe this movie is a HORROR movie, but does scare you couple of times. Is a fantastic thriller that is worth watching.
Thank you
Lions for Lambs (2007)
Sounds like a preaching, but it has its good valid points
I saw the movie last night as part of a free view/screen. I will say this much, I would pay 10 dollars to see it. If you are a conservative close minded individual who thinks George Bush is mistake free and he is the greatest mind of this century, then this movie is not for you. However, if you are an open minded person then this movie has its good points about our government, our country's policies, and the bravery of American soldiers that may make you think and start conversation with your family and friends about what you can different with this country.
I believe the movie is worth seeing. I will also say, that there is a character in the movie where I felt he was preaching to me as oppose to having a conversation with the other character in the movie. Again, I will say that the movie will make think about who you are as an American, and what you do for your country.
You should see it....
Fred Claus (2007)
It will give what your looking for, "holiday spirit"...
I went to see the movie last night as part of the promotional free preview show. The movie is good at times, really great at other times, and it drags a little in the middle, but it does deliver the holiday spirit. It is a great movie to take the family and relax. Great to enjoy with love and realize that the holidays are coming again, and this year is a great opportunity to fix any wrongs in our life.
Is it the best movie holiday ever? No!, but it will make laugh at times, and you will come out of theater feeling happy because the holidays are coming.
So, take a break and enjoy the movie for what it is. Don't expect a master piece, just know that it is a movie that will entertain you for couple of hours.
Knocked Up (2007)
Unexpected a great funny film
Very simple...
This is a very funny film.
I enjoyed very much this movie. I found the story very refreshing, funny, a lot of great characters, and crazy funny situations, plus with a very warm message.
I am not a fan of the director, specially his last movie "40 year old virgin" but I have to honestly say this was a great movie to go watch.
I'd say if you like to have a good time and simply laugh about funny circumstances that may occur in life, I have to say that this is the movie for you.
You will not be sorry. I also like to say that if you are the type of person who likes to compare real life to fiction, you may get offended by some scenes. Don't be square, and enjoy life a little...
This movie will make you have a great time.
El laberinto del fauno (2006)
Wonderful Unexpected Movie
It is true the movie is different from what the trailer shows, but this is a great surprising story that involves you from the beginning to end. There are some violent scenes in this movie and it is a tiny graphic, but it is just really part of the story.
I am not a professional critic but I have to tell you that I really enjoyed the movie. I like it so much that even though I got the movie for free, as soon as the movie was over, I went out side and bought a ticket so someone else can have the same experience that I had.
Through out the movie, I experienced a lot of emotions and it was really wonderful to see such young actors act so well.
I truly recommend this movie to anyone. It is a wonderful story, full of passion, love, hate and great imagination.
Apocalypto (2006)
Exellente
I saw the movie last night, and the experience is wonderful. I wish Mel would have shown more about the Mayan culture but as the story goes is great. I had a problem with the story because it was the Aztecs who are the last Indian civilization when the Spaniards came and not the Mayans but regardless, it is a great movie.
The actress in the movie is fantastic and you can not really tell whether or not these are real people pretending to be actors.
Mel is an artist and an innovator. He definitely brings attention to different issues and I am glad he chose the Mayan culture for his topic on this movie.
Go see the movie, it is breath-taking.
Casino Royale (2006)
just bond
I saw the movie last night, and I got what I paid for ---entertained---. I enjoyed the movie for what it is, an entertaining film. It gave me everything I wanted to see in a Bond film (high tech items, a lot of cool action, hot chicks and an unreal spy story). The movie has its downs but overall it is a good action film. If you are the type the of person that enjoys a good special effects type of action, intrigued by new tech toys and like watching beautiful women, then this movie is for you. Also, I have to say that this movie is probably the best Bond movie in a long time. The action and special effects are exciting but not really new. The women in the movie are beautiful but not drop dead gorgeous and there are not many high tech toys but enough to keep the movie good.
Hard Candy (2005)
What a suspense!
I saw the movie for the first time last night while flying from Boston to Austin TX. I had the movie not really knowing what it was all about. I postpone to see this movie because I thought it was another horror movie attempt, but I was so bored through-out the flight that I decided to watch. The movie is quite an experience. At first, I was feeling sorry for the guy but then, I was glad for what was happening to him. The movie took many of my emotions and ran with them in many directions because the thriller takes you that way.
The acting is great, and this little girl is going to be huge on day. I was very pleased with the plot and the story and how it develops. I like this movie and I wish that all perverts out there get a chance to see it and see what it may come their way.
Superman Returns (2006)
I found the story boring.
I found the story very boring and predictable. I did not find the special effects all that exciting either. I thought the movie stayed short for a summer blockbuster movie. I usually enjoy science fiction movies such as the matrix and the x-men but this one really sucked.
I guess if you are a kid 7 and below you will like it but I think is really not all that.
All I say is that the movie was suppose to be the best of 2006 and the fact that the movie did not even last two weeks in number one is a good sign that the movie sucks.
Thanks
Cars (2006)
Same Story, Great Movie
The story of the movie is being told many times, young self-confident player meets old player who used to be great. Yet, the way the movie is made is great. The visuals are out of this world and it is funny as crazy. I will not say the movie is better than Finding Nemo, but is is definitely better than Shrek and so many other cartoon movies I have seen in the last three years.
Anyway, I recommend this movie to everyone and to all ages. It works and believe when I tell you that the graphics on this movie are just amazing.
I loved it and I will probably see it again.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Great Movie for a great Book
I found myself intrigue deeper and deeper as I was reading the book. I found it fascinating the way symbols change meaning throughout generations. I read the book in two or three days because of the suspense, well written mystery of the book. The movie was the cherry on the cake for such a wonderful book, but I have to say that I was not so much into it because I already know the story and thus the ending. I love the visuals, and the acting of Tom Hanks, not so much the French lady though.
If you have never read the book, this movie is a must see, regardless of your religious beliefs, IT IS JUST FICTION and if you have read the book like me, this is putting a picture to the written material.
I am not even going to comment on the crazy, close minded people who somehow think this movie is going to change what you have believe all your life.
Also, watch out for the Christian fanatics outside the movie theater distributing pamphlets and the bible.
