Requiem (1998)
Nature of Art, Life and Dreams
18 June 2001
What is the nature of life? What is the nature of art? How can art influence our lives? These are the questions of this movie. The main character, a man who lives both in the world of dreams and reality, searches his past, in order to understand its meaning. He has meetings with the ghosts of his dead friend, his dead lover, his dead father and Pessoa, the great portuguese writer. These four encounters give him clues about what he is looking for. Beside that, he finds himself in front of art, discovering how it modifies our comprehension of life. It's based in one of Tabucci's (the italian writer)books: "Requiem". This few lines cannot resume the greatness of this movie.

The last thing I can say is: If you like art, I recommend you to see it. If you ever wonder about the nature of dreams, or you live in dreams half of the time, I think you'll feel like this movie was made for you.

Orlando (1992)
A song to mankind
22 January 2001
This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. The plot, inspired on Virginia Woolf's novel, is extremely poetic and the main character, Orlando, as an incarnation of humanity, is powerful and symbolic. This film is full of beautiful images, perfect scenes, and great dialogues. Orlando's path, through 400 years, changing with the times, but maintaining his/her essence, it's something amazing. The actress that played Orlando, is really gifted. Sally Potter, the director (a very talented and intelligent woman) have done a movie that no-one should miss.

A subtle and beautiful movie
19 January 2001
Why should you see this movie? I can think many reasons: Because it has beautiful and perfect scenes, because it was made in the 50's and it's amazingly contemporary, because the characters are extremely interesting... This kind of movies shows us that there's no need to spend 10 million dollars to produce a film... It proves us that a simple story, with a simple production can be more transcendental than a film that cost millions.

The story is simple, but it forces us to think about freedom, love, oppression, decision, and about the things we can or cannot change about ourselves and the others. As a conclusion, I can say that seeing this movie is a worthy experience.
