Pearl Harbor (2001)
What a turkey!
An awful film that is tedious in the extreme and a fine example of the poor standards now seen as acceptable in the movie industry. However some unintentionally funny moments are well worth catching. Sad to see an awful historic event get this sort of treatment.
The Old Devils (1992)
Captures the spirit of the novel
This captures the book. It's well acted and the calibre of the cast speaks volumes for the quality of the script. It sunk without trace after transmission and as far as I'm aware the BBC didn't broadcast it again. This is a shame.
Road House (1989)
Watchable but don't expect too much!
This was better than a bit better than expected. Acting was not the best but given the majority of the cast that was no surprise. What was Ben Gazarra doing in this one! Swayze can't act but we all know that. Even so it's a reasonable way to fill your time and if you like action and the good guys coming out on top then you won't be too disappointed

Attack (1956)
A more realistic reflection of war than British equivalents
The movie had a profound impact on me when I first saw it. Having been brought up on the standard, sanitised British war movie 'Attack!' gave me a more realistic impression of what it may have been like. Jack Palance is no typical central character for this sort of movie and is in a different league to the average central character in a British war movie. No matter how many times I see the movie I'm left thinking he was undervalued.
The Sound Barrier (1952)
A great movie - very understated but captures the era well
The movie really does capture a sense of time and the tremendous bravery of those involved in the breaking of the sound barrier. The cast is excellent and as usual Denholm Elliot steals every scene he's involved in. I feel this film is under-rated and is typical of much of the good work of British Cinema in the 50's
