Black Mirror: Mazey Day (2023)
Worst episode of Black mirror that breaks the Black mirror universe
The problem with this episode is, that Black mirror has established a realistic universe, where the problems arise from sociocultular aspects combined with technology. In this episode, they make a total retcon of the Black mirror universe by introducing supernatural elements (werewolves). One could say, that this episode was a good horror/mystery episode, but the show was the wrong one.
This would have fit the likes of cabinet of curiosities. But for Black mirror, this episode does not fit, and for me destroys the whole universe by introducing supernatural elements. There would have been endless potential in paparazzis, stalking and technology, but they decided to discard all that potential and go for a very basic misdirection combined with supernatural elements.
Misdirection fits Black mirror (even though the clues for werewolves were clear; a song from Twilight, Mazey asking "a man?" when the driver says that a man was found on the road, how the shaman/doctor talks about Mazies problem, her being chained up etc..), but the supernatural elements should have never been added to this show.
The only reason I am not giving this episode 1/10, is that in almost any other horror anthology show this would have been a solid 6/10 episode, but not for Black Mirror.
The Stay (2021)
Prop knife
Okay idea, bad writing/dialogue, bad actor performace but worst of all; the prop knife. It made it impossible to take this seriously, the prop knife was like 1/2 inches thick, looked to be like cardboard or styrofoam or plastic. It looked so much like a kids toy, that this movie turned into a bad parody.
