Prey (2022)
It was pretty boring with way to much violence and gore.
I love the original predator and some of the sequels were not bad either, this on the other hand was pretty average. There was basically no suspense at all. The characters were bland and hard to relate to, even the predator looked boring tbh. I am guessing that because the film had so little in the way of dialogue or meaningful plot, they just said spam the movie with violence and gore. So just about every scene is filled with poorly created cgi animals getting butchered or humans losing legs/arms/head etc etc. Lastly the ending was just dumb, are we supposed to believe a young girl can kill this supposed alien warrior? Hmm ? Just boring, badly written and poor CGI all round to be honest. Instantly forgettable.
Bullet Train (2022)
I was so bored after 20 minutes I stopped watching.
First few minutes looked quite good, then the two cockney gangster characters came into it and it went downhill rapidly after that. It tried to be funny but was honestly just boring as hell. The over the top violence/gore while trying to be funny just did not work. This type of film has been done may times before but only way better than this. It might have got better if I continued to watch but, it was so boring I decided that I would not waste another minute of my life watching it. So my advice is to go watch Pulp fiction or many other similar types of movie, they aer way better than this one is.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
I have no idea what I justed watched, but it was boring as hell.
I was looking forward to this for so long, and in the end it has been a total let down so far. Completely boring, the story is dragging on so much its yawn inducing. Spending over an hour of obi-wan feeling sorry for himself just like Disney made Luke in the last jedi, and worse still when he does actually fight he uses a blaster instead of saber and not only that his aim was worse than a storm trooper. To be honest there were very few action scenes and the ones that were shown looked very amateurish no more so than when Leia is chased by kidnappers then one kidnapper encounters a branch at head height then just stops and looks defeated like there was no way they could get past that small branch at head height, I mean give me a break how could that scene get past the editing room, so these people not know how stupid that scene looked? The rest of this series has to get better simply because it could not get any worse.
MacGyver (2016)
Not bad in a goofy illogical kinda way
Is this as good as the original Macgyver? Well depends what you want, it is nowhere near as good when it comes to the science and engineering MacGyver used to get out of situations, but as a feel good factor the new one is better imo. I mean the stories are totally unbelievable and at times it's more of a cop show than a spy show, but it does have a family entertainment feel to it and my son and I enjoy watching it tbh.
If I could change anything it would be
1. The stories in the first 5 minutes are usually more exciting and interesting than the main story that follows.
2. The actors chosen for the characters are unbelievable, the hacker does not look or act like a hacker in fact the only people you would actually believe could have that role in real life is MacGyver and Jack, everyone else is miscast imo.
3. MacGyver still used science and engineering to get out of sticky situations, however, they never go into the same detail that the original did to show the viewer how they did it, and to be fair in the new series that may be because in real life MacGyvers escapes would not work they totally exaggerate/make up science to allow MacGyver to escape a situation.
All in all it's not a bad series to watch with your kids as there is virtually no swearing or sex/nudity and hardly anyone gets killed. For family entertainment it's worth a solid 7 imo.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
To much religious fantasy for a sci-fi story
I have watched this series twice, first time I thought it was fantastic, then while I was watching it again a few years later, I kinda noticed more how much this story is not really a sci-fi story at all and more of a religious god knows everything kinda drama. I don't mind this at all if it is logical and realistic, I mean lots of people believe in god in real life, but this goes a step further and has angels manipulating humans and cylons, visions of the future and all sorts of religious nonsense going on in the story lines. So science fiction, hmm I think not, as there is not much science and lots of religious nonsense, so maybe fantasy would best describe the series. If you can get past the religious nonsense then it's an average watchable series, the acting is quite good, even if the script has them talking utter nonsense most of the time, and the plot holes. Well again the writing is pretty poor to average at best, you will be asking yourself why such and such character did that, or what was that all about, no way would that happen (dee death) etc etc on multiple occasions throughout this series. So an average 6 is about what I thin it deserves and that is for the acting and the feeling of escapism when watching, which I have to admit, the sets are pretty good.
The Expanse: Force Projection (2021)
The whole cast except amos has become irritating as hell
This episode once again reaffirms why Amazon have destroyed this series. Do they not realize that no one cares about the stupid soap opera story lines?and to top it off they make Holden into a complete moron. I mean he has the chance to kill the man that has literally killed millions of people and will continue to kill more if given the chance and he decides to let him go. Everybody who watches this show was begging him to kill Marco so the dull plot and bad script and acting could stop, but no we have to continue on with this snore fest of a story line. But what do you expect from third rate writers who have zero clue about writing scifi.
Castle Falls (2021)
Not bad, worth a watch
So I watched two movies over the holidays, the new matrix movie and Castle Falls. I lasted 40 minutes with the Matrix before I walked out of the Cinema, it was that bad and boring. I watched the full Castle Falls movie. Was Castle Falls the best movie ever? No, but it had enough to keep me interested in watching. The plot was quite interesting, the action was good and the acting was all good, way better than the new Matrix. IT would be nice to see Scott and Dolph star in a movie that had the budget of the Matrix, I am sure it would be 100 times better than the drivel big budget films that Hollywood is producing at the moment.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
The plot made no sense, and aliens looked more like dinosaurs.
The plot was terrible and poorly thought through. Why send people 30 years into the future instead of training people and preparing for a future invasion in the present? Likewise, the time travel science used is pathetic, so many paradoxes, the writers clearly do not have a clue about science at all. These lot should be banned from writing any more science fiction.
Also the aliens looked more like dinosaurs. Are we really expected to believe that those aliens were capable of mastering space travel between stars? Add to that they were boring, similar designs have been used many times before usually in b movies. Again really poorly thought through. Lastly the script and acting, this was probably the worst part of the movie. The dialogue was cheesy as hell and the acting was wooden/stiff. The background music was trying to make the scenes dramatic but they only highlighted how bad the scenes actually were. Give it a miss, you have better things to do with your time.
War of the Worlds (2019)
This is really slow and mostly boring.
Three episodes in and I am wondering what the point of this series is. It is really slow as in nothing ever happens that gets you on the edge of your seat and no aliens no spaceships, nothing. I am guessing the plot is the aliens have killed everyone with a personality and left the most dullest people on earth alive, from there the aliens will round these people up and take over the galaxy by dropping these humans on any habitable planet and then go on to bore the natives to death, at which point the aliens take over the planet.
As for action well there are a few gory head shots but it's so slow you just go meh. Even the BBCs attempt at war of the worlds was better than this, and that was bad. The original moves was way better than this.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)
A little bit boring and repetitive
I loved the clone wars animation apart from the bad batch episode which I thought was emm bad, The main reason being they seemed way over powered even more than jedi's, they basically turn up kill every droid they encounter without ever getting hurt then leave the battlefield. So from what I seen of the new series this is basically exactly the same plot for every fight they are in with the added bonus of an irritating kid tagging along for the ride. I mean of all the Star Wars stories you could have made an animation about why on earth did Disney choose this one? Anyway not worth watching IMO.
Seaspiracy (2021)
Wow, just wow
Ok so I just watched this documentary and I have to say I feel depressed. How are humans so dumb? How can we continue to allow the world to be trashed so that a tiny minority of people can make more and more money?
The way that sea life is treated is disgusting, these commercial fishing operations are literally wiping all life from our oceans with no care whatsoever about the consequences. Animal welfare is non existent for sea life and ecosystems are literally being trashed out of sight, but really right in front of us on the shelves in our supermarkets, all in the name of profit.
Worse still so many charities that claim to be trying to save our oceans are actually funded by commercial fishing, so they will not state the truth that commercial fishing is actually destroying our oceans and that this 'sustainable fishing' label is in reality a total waste of time, there is no such thing as sustainable fishing as we find out further when the documentary concentrates on Fish farms. These charities are that bad they cannot bring themselves to say 'stop eating fish"
Can we rely on our leaders to do something about this? I won't hold my breath as they seem complicit in it to be honest with their endless subsidies and pathetic excuse of 'marine reserves' that apparently commercial fishing trawlers can fish in.
Then the documentary talks about illegal fishing and slave labour on some of these fishing boats.
All in all I think the best way to save our oceans and the life in it is to simply stop eating fish, stop propping up an industry that just like fossil fuels will ultimately result in our own downfall as a species. It's time for humans to get smart and stop acting like the dumb moron that would literally kill and destroy everything it comes across just so it can make more money. Money will be no good when the life support systems of the planet we live on disappear. There are alternatives to fish that offer exactly the same tastes and benefits without the negatives of toxins that fish have accumulated due to guess what? Yup humans treating the oceans like a trash can.
Anyway a really good documentary that opened my eyes to a lot of things that I just did not know.
The Expanse: Hard Vacuum (2021)
Boring pretty much sums it this episode and the whole season
This season has been so slow and boring, literally nothing happens that is interesting. I end up skipping huge chunks that I know are literally just time fillers where nothing happens except pointless repeating dialogue. They should have ended the expanse after season 3 tbh because season 4 was disappointing but season 5 has been absolute drivel.
Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
They don't make movies like this anymore.
Simply great, two hours of a roller coaster action movie with great lines, great chase scenes and great acting. Never a boring moment in the full movie.
Triple Frontier (2019)
Very entertaining
I think this movie has got some unfair comments and ratings. The movie is really good IMO, very enjoyable, ok there were some plot holes, but these were minor imo. Overall a really enjoyable 2 hours.
Before Sunrise (1995)
It feels very real and very emotional.
First of I usually hate romantic films and try to avoid them at all costs. So when I was convinced to watch this one I thought here we go this is going to be boring. Anyway to my surprise I actually really liked it. The setting was fantastic, I used to travel a lot in Europe when I was younger and can totally relate to the surroundings and being on your own travelling through different countries. The dialogue seemed very realistic, like you were a fly on the wall watching two people meet each other, like each other and ultimately fall in love with each other. I have been told the sequels do not have the same feel as the first but I will give them a go and find out.
Quantum Leap (1989)
No science just preaching god is controlling everything bs
I used to like this show when I was a kid. Then I grew up and watched it again. Oh boy, what a compete mess of a show, first of all there is zero science in this show, somehow we are supposed to believe that a 'genius' that was the leading authority in the world on quantum mechanics basically says god is responsible for all his leaps, no attempt at all to use science to answer anything, it was just god having a laugh so accept it. Next the plots get very repetitive to the point that you already know what going to happen as soon as you see Sam jump into a new body. It just becomes very boring very quickly after the first season. All in all a very poor show.
Future Man (2017)
season 1 was decent season 2 is terrible
So season 1 was alright, funny in places and likeable characters and plenty of action in each episode. Season 2 is a disaster, absolutely nothing happens that is interesting or funny the whole storyline is dull and boring. You really don't care about what happens to any of the main characters. I made it to episode 8 before I gave up. They should have stopped with 1 season.
Angel Has Fallen (2019)
Predictable but worth a watch
Well I watched this on Amazon Prime to kill a couple of hours and thought it was a decent action movie. Not the best but not the worst. Some of the action is good, I especially liked the way they used drones in the assassination attempt that seemed well done with good CGI. However, the plot itself is a bit meh and very predictable. I mean since Donald Trump became president I cannot really take seriously any movie that attempts to make the president an upstanding, morally superior principled good guy that always says and does the right thing. If anything the vice president (bad guy) in this movie is more like Trump (the real life president). Anyway apart from that it was an ok movie better than the London one and the first one they made. Ultimately I think it's probably time to call it a day with this franchise.
The Day of the Triffids (2009)
Nothing was logical, too many plot holes.
Ok so a solar flare made everyone on Earth blind. FAIL--> how can everyone on earth be blind when half the earth would be shielded from the flare, that is for half the earth it would be night time. This is major plot hole and not the only one, like someone surviving a plane crash in the middle of London, not just survived but walked away with only minor scratches. Then there is the triffids, apparently the world has replaced crude oil with triffid oil in order to prevent global warming because solar, wind any renewable energy clearly not as good as another OIL. The amount of guns that is found by people is way over the top for the UK, and don't get me started on the person that lets the triffids out. Characters are weak, plot is embarrassing and the script is trash. I can't believe the BBC have the nerve to charge people a fee to make this trash. The original film is 100 % better than this version, and that is a mediocre film. Do yourself a favour and read the book instead.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Gave up after episode 5
I struggled through the first 4 episodes hoping it was going to get better it never really did, but the final straw came at the start of episode 5. I mean the unneeded over the top gore and violence I thought was well completely off putting, so much so I stopped watching the movie. Why on earth they need to put violent gory scenes like that in Star Trek as well as the multiple F-bombs make no sense to me. The plot is slow and boring, the characters are dull and you don't really care about them, you just wish they were like they were in TNG, but they are no where near as likeable, and the unneeded gory violence and swearing is completely off putting. So just like Discovery Picard is getting thrown into the trash for me. CBS has totally destroyed this franchise and The Orville is the only current place to watch a real star-trek like show.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Bad Batch (2020)
Clone Wars animation is way better than the movies IMO. This did not disappoint.
After watching all 6 previous seasons and thinking they were excellent, way better than the movies, I was really looking forward to season 7, and it did not disappoint. For me Rex will always be one of the main and best characters in all of the star wars franchise and it was great to see season 7 kick off with a story all about Rex. Can't wait for the next episode.
The Mandalorian (2019)
100 times better than the Disney star wars movies.
After a average first episode the series really picked up and had a strong finish. Was it better than pre disney star wars movies, animations? well not in my opinion. Was it better than the Disney star wars movies, well yes a lot better. So pretty enjoyable, just don't let the writers of the last star wars trilogy touch the mandalorian and it will be good in series 2 also.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Non stop action with zero plot or character development
Well the action scenes were good, the CGI was good, the pace was way to fast and the plot, well baby Yoda could write a better plot than this. Absolutely nothing to get your brain thinking or caring about the main characters, add to that they just make up new forces that never existed in previous star wars films. I mean if a Jedi could heal then surely Anakin would have saved is mam in the prequel trilogy. Also why is this even called the rise of skywalker? Luke was in it for less than 10 minutes. It should have been called the "unbeatable Rey", because Rey literally can do anything with no master teaching her, no practice, it just happens for her. The whole 'skywalker" saga was about Anakins redemption and that happened in return of the jedi when he killed Palp, but Disney tried to milk more money off the fans by remaking the original trilogy, same plot, same types of characters but just done much much worse. No wonder Geroge Lucas wanted nothing to do with this trilogy. If you compare the writing on these last three films to that of say the clone wars animation, then the clone wars animation completely pummels this trilogy, it's not even close. Do yourself a favour and wait for this to be shown on TV then forget about it and go watch clone wars again.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
Simply Brilliant
I have seen all 9 star wars movies and I have to say Clone Wars is better than all of them. The character development and plot is great, you really get to know characters like Anakin, Obi One, Ashoka all the Jedi and Sith as well as clones like Rex, senators like Padmay and droids like R2D2, C3PO and of course the separatists droids ( very funny roger roger) you really care about what happens to them. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the whole series. I hope Disney don't ruin it with their new season, but if their work on the last three films is to go by, then they probably will. oh well never mind they cannot ruin the first six seasons of Clone Wars. Highly recommend watching this for kids and adults.
World War A: Aliens Invade Earth (2016)
A mess of a documentary
I just watched this on curiositystream. This has some useful information for the lay person. However, the way it is presented is a complete mess. One minute it talks about aliens invading then the next microbes on Mars, then back to aliens invading etc etc. It is also made to try and give the impression that all they say is facts. For instance it strongly suggests aliens definitely are coming, which is not true; that they are going to invade Earth, again not true; that there is in fact life outside our Planet, again not a true fact, because we have no evidence to back any of this up.
To add to this it has a completely over the top background music which tries to make it sound like something very important and imminent is going to happen, and a narrator who sounds like he narrating a move trailer. They even use fake scenes with actors that witness the aliens coming.
They try to tell us that scientists have just found a Sun with a planet around it, 51 Pegasi b and that this is the only exoplanet that has been found. In fact there are literally thousands of exoplanets that have been found. 51 Pegasi b was discovered in 1995, the documentary was made in 2016, so their research for the film is terrible. Also all interviews with scientists who they have hand chosen to confirm the narrative that we are going to be invaded, via skype, which leads to very poor quality images.
They don't need the over the top music, narrator, and made up 'facts'. The youtuber Isaac Arthur, makes better videos that are more accurate and watchable then this.
