Rasputin (1996 TV Movie)

excellent actors

Alan Rickman really kicks it. He did a quite incredibly good job.

Could you want another Rasputin? Excellent acting. He combines that opposition of orgy and foreseeing in a way you cannot help but think this ambivalence is like two sides of the same coin.

nice but a bit too lame

nicely made (though I haven t read The Lair... - which is said to be quite confusing). Nice Ken Russell style as always, yet not as opulent and splendid as Gothic. Atmosphere is quite o.k. Some nice splatter and erotic effects too. But approaching the solution there is something you are waiting for which stays unfulfilled. The rescue of Hugh Grant and his beloved is disappointing and boring. Why not giveth em hell and have a destructive ending. Could have been done nicely too. So, a bit too lame and conventional in the end.

one of the most boring ones
4 May 2001
This one really hits you in the face. But not because it is good. In fact, it is terrible. Bucqouy is an egoman. It is him talking, it is him trying to womanize, it is him who fails, it is him being offensive towards the actors... it is all about him. But who wants to see that? Even the actors got p***ed off. And the movie, well, in the end there was film material you can show in a cinema, but it was neither a feature film nor was it a documentary of how a movie comes into being. One of the very few movies I must warn you not to watch it. But go ahead if you enjoy spending boring evenings watching silly films.

close to perfect

In a way it is a typical Beat Takeshi movie. The cool, silent guy that knows how to use his fists. Violence, crime and bloodshed. But there is another side to it. In the end, it is probably the love story that is closest to being perfect. Yes, I think the last quarter is a perfect description of (coming to?) love someone. And it is silent, using terrific beautiful images. A must-see. I will have to watch it again and show this to my friends.

magic, funny, genious
5 February 2001
Saw it as critic at the 49. Internationales Filmfestival Mannheim Heidelberg.

As every film that I know and Zelenka is involved in it is simply genious.

I love his way of combining different stories and characters.

His *Knoflikari* and the truly magic *Powers* (part of Regina Zieglers *Erotic Tales IV*) are definitely worth being checked out. Go and get it, folks!
