Sealab 2021 (2000)
Hilarious, literate, and offensive
Consistently hysterical fifteen minute cartoon on the cartoon network. Arguably the funniest of the "Adult Swim" cartoons. References range from Jonathan Swift to the Incredible Hulk. Tends towards the surreal (especially "Waking Quinn"). Has far better comic timing than one would think possible with primarily recycled animation.
Big Trouble (2002)
Entertaining but flawed
A well cast adaptation of the very funny novel by Dave Barry. The first half is not as funny as it could be, though there are occasional good moments. The film falls down pretty much every time it diverts significantly from the book. The biggest flaw by far was overuse of voiceover, with multiple narrators at that. The voiceover comes off as a lazy way to avoid plot exposition. The funniest characters in the movie are probably Tom Sizemore & Johnny Knoxville's incredibly stupid criminals. The movie is very funny in a few parts, and in the hands of better screenwriters could have been hysterical. Worth renting or seeing on cable, not a theater must-see by any means.
Jurassic Park III (2001)
No more or less than it aspires to be
Fun, entertaining movie. Nothing particularly deep, and what could be laughably referred to as the plot was nothing new, but it was a lot of fun to watch. The one thing that this lacked that I would have liked to have seen was more dinosaur vs. dinosaur fights (Triceratops or Ankylosaurus vs. T-Rex or Spinosaurus could be fun)but this was 90 minutes of dinosaurs, and, quite frankly, that's what I went to it to see.
The Score (2001)
Excellent acting, adequate script
Brando, De Niro, and Norton are all excellent, and the direction is good considering the script. The script, however, was apparently unfinished when filming started and it shows to a certain extent. Angela Bassett's character is underdeveloped, and most of the twists the film takes are fairly predictable. There are a few very good scenes, and I would recommend the movie, though. I think this is simply an argument for not rushing a movie into production. Would could possibly have been a very, very good film was merely a good one.
