She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
I've seen too much...
For the avid Marvel fans, i get why they love this, it's an opportunity to look for easter eggs and possible future characters to be introduced. Youtube reviewers are having a blast breaking down the scenes and having watch parties. At this point, for some fans, anything Marvel puts out they will eat it up.
For once i decided to read the comics and try to understand the source material, and make my own judgement. I understand the need to change up some things from the comics, given the first comic came out in the 80's so some things wouldn't be relevant, but this show did a complete 180. The way she became she-hulk in the comics is more believeable than what they came up with here, and at first she didn't have any control of when she turned into she-hulk. Everytime she got angry she would change, she always ran away so that people wouldn't find out, but here apparently being a woman and having dealt with catcalling and mansplaining made her in control of her anger. From the comics, you can tell she respects Bruce and looks up to him and their interactions are pleasant, they are like brother and sister, but here, she just comes off as condescending and always trying to be better than him, they don't seem related at all.
The whole origin story was just rushed coz i guess they wanted to get to the law stuff, hence the title. They skimmed over everything and just pissed off the comic book fans.
For someone who doesn't read the comics and probably hasn't seen or read the bad reviews of how poorly the show was written, I can see them enjoying this, oblivious to the shortcomings, but I've seen too much to enjoy this now.
Aftermath (2016)
Could have been better
Any show which explores the idea of time travel or something similar always intrigues me. I wasn't looking at the cgi so much, was interested in the story. What i didn't like is the stupid characters, people making stupid decisions, and these were many. Creates unnecessary plot which diverts from the main story. Just feels like lazy writing
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Slow start for me
Am not a superfan, haven't read the comics, but I enjoy most of what marvel produces. Coming into this, I feel like WandaVision set the bar too high. I felt like the first episode wasn't so captivating for me, and somewhat boring. It began off with some action, which I felt was mediocre at best, then the next part was boring for me, and I know because I paused several times to go do other things. There wasn't anything captivating about it, to keep me glued to the screen. Some of the acting didn't do it for me. This is just a review of the first episode, maybe it will get better, and maybe am comparing it to WandaVision, with that I was intrigued from the very first episode, trying to figure out what was going on, asking a lot of questions and looking forward to the next episode. With this, not so much. One issue I had with it, this kid gets stamped in the face by this guy with superhuman strength but somehow is fine
Space Force (2020)
So far, not so good
Am always skeptical when I see a movie or show which is full of big stars. This is one of them, so many big stars, am sure the salaries to pay them could fund another tv show.
Back to the show, so this is based on the first episode i watched. Honestly this wasn't funny, and I didn't feel any urge to binge watch the whole show. I honestly didn't laugh at any jokes in the first episode, hopefully it gets better. It's not that i didn't get the jokes, I could clearly tell they were trying to be funny or a joke had been made, but it wasn't funny.
Will try to watch the whole show and probably will change my opinion, but so far, it isn't as hyped up as i hoped it would be. Though I can see this being a hit for so people, so all the high ratings should be about right. Just not for everybody, not for yet
Dangerous Lies (2020)
So much left unexplained
There is so much unexplained stuff by the end of the movie. For most part of the movie, they have us believe the boyfriend had something to do with the diner mugging, but by the end of the movie, we still have no clue in his involvement. Then also what was the guy in charge of the caregivers doing in the house at such a late hour? The detective hinted something about it but it was never explained. It didn't seem normal for him to have just let himself in.
The the boyfriend seemed super shady throughout the movie but somehow we don't get his story, was he really a good guy. Just coz he said he would never leave her towards the end, doesn't suddenly make him a good guy. I mean, this is a guy who disposed off a body without hesitation.
This was just a dull watch.
Also forgot, who would hide diamonds like that, just scatter them in the soil like you are planting them. Thats was just dumb. But to the writers, it made a nice dramatic reveal at the end
Gisaengchung (2019)
Watched because of the hype
I only watched this coz of the hype, but it was just an okay movie. I didn't find the story that interesting, especially how they got so greedy. "Jessica" quoted some big figures for her pay, I really thought that would have made a difference in their lives, but it seems all the money went to was food, coz thats all that changed in their lives. They started eating at a better place. And it really took a dark turn at the end.
Never Have I Ever (2020)
Totally surprised me
I was skeptical at first going into this, after the first episode, I thought Devi talked too much and was trying too hard to show her confidence. I almost stopped on the first episode, but then I watched some more and just fell in love with the show. They are not trying to sell us some unrealistic story, its actually relatable.
I loved it so much, I went back and rewatched it just to see what i missed.
And also Fabiola is gorgeous, it took some time to notice coz she is not the main focus of the show and she wears these nerdy outfits.
Time Trap (2017)
Worth the watch, but...
I love time travel movies so I might be biased. I liked the story, the acting was okay, but the characters acted so dumb sometimes, it was annoying. Like towards the end, when Taylor found the professor and he sees these people trapped in time doing battle. So Taylor decides he wants to go that way and is only stopped by the professor. It was so annoying, like how dumb can you really be?
Apart from the ocassional dumb stuff they do, its a good watch.
La casa de papel (2017)
A telenovela type of heist
If you enjoy telenovelas or soaps, this might be up your alley. Unnecessary drama, and stretching out the plot. Am on the fifth episode of season one but so far the story hasn't advanced that much.
The robbers seem like they had a week to know each other and prepare for the robbery, coz the tensions and unprofessional conduct doesnt feel like they had months to prepare like they want us to believe.
The show wants us to believe the lead negotiator is the best there is, but so far, it feels like she is not as good as advertised. She made one mistake so far and she has a nervous breakdown, and what does she do, she calls her mum and tells her everything. Doesn't seem so professional, and comes off as an amateur or like its her first time doing this.
The characters are all very sloppy, making stupid mistakes just to stretch out the story. Its just lazy writing in my opinion, though it appeals to a certain audience i know.
Devs (2020)
This had me hooked from the pilot episode!
So, I've read some bad reviews, everyone complaining about the lead actress.! She is portraying a highly intelligent computer geek, and from common sense, we know most intelligent people are usually awkward. They aren't that interesting. So I think they cast her well, in my opinion. Besides, am sure they passed over many other actors and picked her for the role, I would trust their pick over someone who watched just 1 or two episodes of this.
Back to the show, from the get go, I was hooked, I was intrigued what this devs department was working on. Every episode keeps pulling you in, you just keep wanting more. Those sound effects had me convinced this is what it would sound like listening in on the past.
For the bad reviews, it's just fact you can't please everyone. And someone people wouldn't know a good show even if it slapped them in the face
God Friended Me (2018)
Season 2 is just bad
Season 1 was decent, didn't have any issues with it. Now comes season 2, I've started noticing the bad acting, seems just forced, then it has become so predictable, like i can tell what they are going to say, or what is going to happen. The story now just seems stretched out for no reason, am sure they are waiting for when the season is about to end so that they can make progress on the God account, by which time it will need another season to follow up. Honestly I think it should have ended in season 1.
Avenue 5 (2020)
I guess its not for everyone.
I just landed on this by mistake, I've got to say, its pretty funny. I expected it to have a higher rating, but I guess its not for everyone.
Personally I watch alot of TV shows, and its easy to get bored by the monotony, so when I get that one show which cracks me up, it means it has something special. Honestly don't get all the hatred.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
30 Minutes in and Not impressed
So 30 minutes into the movie and I pretty much want to give up. There was so much hype about this movie so I thought I give it a try.
My biggest let down so far, is the fighting! Its so sloppy, Its like no one is really interested in the 14m bounty, they aren't even trying. You can clearly see they are letting John Wick win. And don't get me started on that library fight scene, WTF was that!! To be honest, John Wick should be dead by now.
The Boys (2019)
Ticks all the right boxes!
So I've read through most of the reviews, and they are full of praise, and the only bad reviews are from people who read the comics. So if you didn't read the comics like me, this is probably among the best shows you will watch all year, great acting, great story, cool graphics, amazing chemistry between the actors, and totally unpredictable. I went into this with no expectation at all, since I just landed on it by mistake and it was a pleasant surprise. Am only 4 episodes in and just loving it. This is absolutely not for kids. I've watched a lot of crazy shows in my lifetime and thought I could never be surprised, but there are those moments in this show where I just went, WTF did I just watch.
On My Block (2018)
Watch Before you read the bad reviews!!
I've come to realise we all don't have the same tastes, hence the bad reviews here. This is a great show, and I watched it in one go. I watch alot of shows so its always had to pick a new show to watch, but when I started this one, I watched it in one go from start to finish, that's how one can tell its a good show.
I got surprised when i read some of the bad reviews here, I imagined we must be watching very different shows. It just goes to show we can't all like the same thing, people are different. So before you judge the show from a few bad reviews, trying watching it for yourself and see if its for you.
My favorite character/crush is Monse, I just love her energy, and I liked her even more when I learnt she doesn't have any acting experience. I would recommend this to anyone.
