Dickinson: Alone, I Cannot Be (2019)
A weird treatment of history
Henry David Thoreau explicitly wrote in Walden all about his visitors and the people he chatted with and built relationships with during his time at Walden Pond. He wrote about the people who used the pond recreationally and his weekly trips into town. He never pretended in Walden that he didn't enjoy or allow visitors, or that he was alone 100% of the time, so I'm confused about why this show makes it out like he was a phony. It was still a fun episode in the vein of what they are trying to do with this show.
How Do You Know (2010)
Strange, but enjoyable
The dialogue is actually good. It's different than the usual sappy stuff. The sticking point is that it is delivered like the actors are in a stage musical written in the 50's, right down to Witherspoon's character saying "gee whiz!" when seeing a newborn baby and an employee enthusiastically calling Rudd's character "boss" at every chance. It's a weird choice on the director's part, but I decided to just get over it and from then I really enjoyed the humor and the way the plot played out.
