Lynch/Oz (2022)

Practically a scam
11 October 2022
There were several walkouts in the screening I attended, but I did sit through all of this documentary, so I can state that I've seen far better, more watchable analysis of David Lynch films in homemade videos on Youtube.

So, we have five filmmakers and one film critic who each get their own segment where they explain how David Lynch was inspired by the Wizard of Oz. To me, there was maybe about twenty minutes worth of material in there and then the rest of the 108 minutes was filler; or maybe there were even just about five or six interesting observations, plus one fun, goofy promo for Twin Peaks from back in the days, near the end, which I had never seen and did enjoy.

The tangents that the commentators were allowed to go on, without it being edited out, made a mockery of the effort behind this documentary. If I had done my homework before going to see this at the cinema, the involvement of the director of Room 237 should have been a huge red flag.

The Night Of (2016)

So boring that the person writing the title fell asleep before getting to the end of it.

Sitting through all eight episodes of this junk (including the finale which by itself is the length of a feature film) is the biggest waste of time I can imagine. Not sure what's happening with the IMDb ratings - can only assume it's some sort of virus affecting the site. This show is incredibly uneventful and boring, and there's hardly any emphasis on the investigation of the murder case at all. The pilot looked fine, but after that it was as if the writers just stopped caring. Then the acting is abysmal, with the exception of John Torturro - can't quite decide who was worse, the couple playing the parents or the female lawyer, except that since the lawyer had more screen time she became the most excruciating to watch. Stay away from this one, but if you do go through with watching it then please don't come back here to troll the site by giving this show a glowing review.

Housebound (2014)

Very annoyed at having sat through this. Don't make the same mistake.

This film is not scary, it's not funny, it's not enjoyable in any way and it takes itself way to seriously for how idiotic it is. Many scenes in it feel like they were written for juvenile audience, but then the film tries to hold on to this thematic connection to an actual horror film which turns it into such a jumbled up mess that it's guarantied that no one will enjoy it. I would name a few of the annoyingly nonsensical scenes here, but then I would have to label this review as containing spoilers and that might make it less likely to save unsuspecting IMDb users from being tricked into wasting their time on this turkey (although maybe that would be a good thing if they then came back here and took down the score a bit). All I want to say is that I have never seen such an obvious example of a compromised message board as here on IMDb for this film. With how not scary, unfunny and boring this film is there is no way that it gets so many glowing reviews, unless you have a hoard of people with some invested interest bombarding the message board. Just don't watch it.

In a World... (2013)

I guess that as long as a film is about feminism it doesn't have to have anything else going for it, right?

I thought this was going to be a comedy. Then halfway into the film the complete absence of jokes made me realise that that couldn't be the case. But then it is hardly a drama either. It was just a sequence of incredibly dull scenes. I started to wonder why this movie even existed. The premise was interesting enough to make something good out of it. How could it be this bad? Then, near the end, the film comes out with its grand statement, delivered through a character played by Gena Davis (I admit that I only got to it by fast forwarding through the second half of the movie): that it's all about feminism. Hey,great! Then the film doesn't have to have anything else going for it! It can be a category of its own: a feminist film, not a comedy, not a drama, no entertainment value at all, just a collection of unbelievably boring footage, with a message at the end of it. In the trailer it says that this turkey was the official selection at some godforsaken film festival, to which my only thought is: what a pretentious lot that must have been.

IMDb must be rigged.
19 November 2011
I have found it mind-boggling how interested everybody seems to be in this show here on IMDb, considering that it is actually nothing but badly acted mind-numbing garbage. Whatever potentials the show may have had earlier on they have been thoroughly wasted at this point. One of the most tiring things about the show is what a hard time it has on following up on a single thing that happens in it, as if the writers have no attention span whatsoever and no ability over any character development, as no matter how many ghosts or freaky things the family members witness in that house, the next episode they are just going on as if nothing has happened. Another tiring cliché in the show is scenes where you have people appearing in other people's houses uninvited -I just had to mention that, as it is fairly descriptive of how dumb the show is.

And still, everybody on IMDb remains positive towards the show and it ends up with an 8,5 rating. Now, I wrote a comment on a thread about the show the other day, but when I came back to check on the thread it didn't exist any more. Furthermore my wife gave the last episode a 1 star rating, but then later when she checked the average rating for women of her age (5 in total) was 10 -and yes, her details were correct in the settings of her account. I have started to believe that this page has to be rigged, that the makers of the show go on writing about it and starting threads, but then as soon as the threads turn negative they delete them.

Do not be fooled by the positive reception of this show on this page. It is horrendous. I gave it two stars as I have managed to follow it so far just to see how bad or more predictable it can get, and I suppose you have to get it a bit of credit for that. But the last show (which gets 10 stars on IMDb) was so dumb and annoying that I can't go on watching it any more.
