Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
ORIGINAL HORROR THRILLER!!!! SHOULD BE IN EVERYONE"S TOP TEN.
It's hard to see anything original today in horror films. Most films just recycle the same cliches over and over. Run Sweetheart Run starts as one film and shifts drastically, taking you for a non stop ride. Ella Balinska stars a Cherie a young and ambitious secretary who has to constantly fend off unwanted advances from men. When she finally finds a man she connects with Ethan, he turns out to be far more sinister than any one she has ever encountered, a pure evil demonic force, hell bent on hunting her over the course of the night for sport. She spends the rest of the film in a frantic literal fight for her life that changes her. This might sound like your standard slasher flick, but it's much much more. If your a fan of great horror thrillers than this should be in your Top Ten. Run Sweet Run was originally supposed be released two years ago, but due to the pandemic was put on the shelf, although without it's release it amassed a large cult following.
OVERALL, this is one of those movies that will make you happy you stuck with it, not too gory, not too outrageous. It's has the perfect blend of suspense, horror and originality.
Significant Other (2022)
Top Notch Science Fiction Thriller!!! Keeps you guessing from start to finish!!
Significant Other showcases powerhouse performances from Maika Monroe and Jake Lacey. The film follows a young couple during a hike in a strange and isolated forest. That's pretty much all that can be said without giving anything away. Significant Other definitely is the type of film that keeps you glued to the screen. Science Fiction fans will love this as it creates a perfect blend of paranoia and terror, as we follow this young couple who begin uncovering strange and sinister things, that not only threaten them, but also everyone on Earth. The strong performances by its lead actors definitely keeps your attention, Jeff Lacey especially brings his own brand of creep factor to the role.
Overall, Significant Other is a worthwhile indie thriller with enough twists and turns to make it a memorable film.
Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes (2022)
Haunting True Crime Docuseries!! Riveting and Informative!!
Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes is a must watch for any fans of true crime documentaries. While the story of Dahmer is well known by now especially after the Netflix smash hit series starring Evan Peters broke records, this limited docuseries lets viewers see it from the perspective of his legal team. What makes this project by Joe Berlinger so masterful is the detailed accounts of the people who put their professional and personal reputations on the line to defend one of the most notorious serial killers in history. Seeing the lasting effects and trauma that Dahmer's victims and legal team suffered in the wake of his crime spree and trial is what makes this docuseries so haunting. Academy Award nominated director Jor Berlinger who also brought us Conversations with a killer: Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy, really gives us a look at Jeffrey Dahmer that not many others have shown us on screen, a killer with no remorse, for the lives he destroyed.
Overall, this docuseries is without a doubt worth watching for fans of true crime dramas.
A Friend of the Family (2022)
Great Male Leads! Jake Lacey and Colin Hanks steal the Show!!!!
A Friend of the Family is based on a true story, and while this adaptation takes many liberties with it's story telling, what makes it a must watch is the must see performances from Jake Lacey and Colin Hanks. Lacey who plays the bad guy gives such a charismatic, unsettling and creepy performance that it keeps you glued to the screen from start to finish. While I agree that the scenes without Lacey drag a bit, the chemistry between him and Colin Hanks is very electric. Unfortunately the weakest part of the show are it's female leads. I'm a big Anna Paquin fan, I mean she has and Oscar, but here she waste her talents. Mckenna Grace also gives a terrible performance.
Overall this limited series has enough suspense and creep factor to keep your attention, and keeps you wanting more.
