Nihon igai zenbu chinbotsu (2006)
What were they thinking when making this?????????
Seriously this is supposed to be a parody of the sinking of japan. Well parodies are supposed to be funny and this sure as hell wasn't. The steriotypes were not funny and at times either mind numbingly stupid or just plain offensive. The story and plot if their is even supposed to be one, was hardly followed through and when it was over i was left pondering if the director really wanted this to be a parody or just some dumb drama flick, with dumb special effects and even dumber acting And i'm still wondering who the hell some of these no name actors who played the foreigners came from, since I've never seen them before in any movie till now. I hope this doesn't become a trend now in Japanese cinema where they have to rely on cheesy special effects and no actual story to make their films watchable. Its not working to well for Hollywood after all. Oh yeah and i absolutely despised the Japanese nationalism in this flick. Maybe they weren't taking it seriously in japan, but i think to a lot of non Japanese your gonna be very offended by some of the things they say and do to the foreign refugees in this film. Personally i think japan is setting itself up to be hated with films like these.
Overall an incredible waste of time to watch.
Gwoemul (2006)
Movie best left to Koreans
Considering all the hype this film has received, i was expecting something more from this flick. I couldn't have been more disappointed. There was nothing and i mean nothing in this movie that hasn't already been done before and done better. The origins of the creature for example reminded me of something a low budget B-grade Hollywood movie producer would think up, in order to get some quick cash. For someone who has seen many Korean films, the political parts in the movie (which i'm sure the nationalists of Korea ate up) are nothing new in Korean cinema. For those of you who watched many Korean films with politics involved, should know what i'm referring too by now. As far as the CGI monster goes, its good to see the creature was not some blatant Hollywood ripoff, but if they were trying to make it scary they failed miserably. The cast was forgettable, had almost laughable acting skills, and the girl being captured by the creature only served as a mediocre plot line at best. Ending having the usual over the top Korean drama that most of their movies seem to have. Recommended for those who want to see the best Korean cinema supposedly has to offer, "besides romance movies", though don't be surprised if its not what your looking for. Otherwise its best left to the natives.
Team America: World Police (2004)
Matt and trey doing what they do best
Don't get me wrong this is a really funny movie in a twisted and sick sort of way. I laughed my ass off when Kim Jong Il fed good for nothing UN weapons inspector Hans Blix to the sharks. But for every piece of humor that is funny and makes sense there is whole scenes that are not funny, make no sense at all (unless of course your American maybe), and is very offensive to certain people. There is a lot in this movie which is nothing new too recent Hollywood movies. An anti American satire film which focuses on Americas high and mighty bravado to the rest of the world like blowing the crap out of Paris and Cairo just to get a few would be terrorists, while at the same time putting in a very disturbing speech explaining why The US is right and the rest of the world is wrong when it comes to dealing with threats to world security like Kim Jong Il or terrorism. In many ways this movie is a republican parties wet dream, showing people like Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore as ignorant and retarded for supporting liberal democrats, and appear too only talk about bringing world peace in order to bolster there world popularity, which sadly is probably true in many ways. I would give this movie a lower rating but have to give some credit to Matt and Trey for their bravado, creativity, and their "we don't give a s**t if your offended"! attitude in their movies.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
sort of what i expected.......rushed!
While i'm probably not nearly as big of a fan as most of the people posting on this site it doesn't take a SW nerd to realize this movie was rushed from beginning to end. I've seen the deleted scenes and wondered why so many crucial parts to the story were taken out and yet they left in scenes like "good bye Chewbacca! miss you i will", i mean how does Chewbacca and Yoda being friends at one time have anything to do with the overall storyline? I'm glad George managed to show more of Anakins Darkside this time around, but with so many bad lines i just could not get myself to believe Anakins struggle between staying a Jedi or saving his wife. its hard to know who is responsible, George Lucas for writing those lines, or Hayden for acting them out. I wasn't impressed with the political comments in the movie either, if i wanted to hear bush/American bashing i'd watch Farenheit 9-11 or another stupid Michael Moore movie. When it all comes down to it Epi 3 should have been given at least an additional 40 minutes more time since so much info i feel was left out. Anyway here's hoping the TV series next year explains more cause Epi 3 sure did not.
Starship Troopers (1997)
a waste of time and good special effects
I think most of the people who have defended this flick are just trying to find a good excuse and for that matter a reason to watch this poor excuse of a movie with no real story going for it. The pace of the movie at the start is both slow and adds no real point to the overall plot line, and the fact that the setting is Argentina when every person living there is American doesn't make much sense in my book. The boot camp is very brutal, and with the exception of the one guy being accidentally shot in the head, did not see any real logic to all the wanton violence going on. When the fighting finally did start at first i thought it would finally get interesting and explain whats going on. I mean it doesn't give a rational explanation as to why the human race is at war with these bugs besides the fact there angry that humans are moving in on there territory (I would be angry too). The more i watched the more disappointed i got and by the time it was finally over i still did not understand the logic of the movie. I think if the director spent more time crafting a good futuristic storyline rather than putting together some really good state of the art special effects together the movie could have been on par with the Alien series but instead just ends up being a B grade movie with cheesy actors and even cheesier acting.
