Brothers (2015)
Pulls the heart strings just right
2 estranged brothers. 1 fighting tournament.
R2F is an international MMA tournament brought to India by Peter Braganza. Whilst introducing the concept to a tv anchor, he says something that is the core essence of the film. In a third world country like India, one has to fight on a daily basis to make ends meet. Everyone is fighting different entities, some are fighting external circumstances while some grappling with their inner demons...From the streets, a fighter shall emerge and rightfully show the indomitable fighting spirit symbolic of this country's spirit on the international stage.
As the film's plot is pretty straightforward, the onus was on the acting and audiovisual effects to serve us the pangs replete of regret, hatred and internal strife within the protagonists, and they have commendably risen to the occasion. Fight scenes were really professional, so was the portrayal of the reception such an event would receive in our country. All actors were on point, but some fights(especially of Monty's) were way over the top, but all in all a brilliant one time watch.
Mission Mangal (2019)
CRINGY AF!!!!!
This movie is just so so over the top. I expected slight commercialization of this extraordinary feat achieved by ISRO scientists( because bollywood😑) but it turned out be such a dim witted and useless drama-charged film that i really regret wasting my time.
The direction(or lack of it) is so pathetic, it is shown as if the satellite landing on mars was a culmination of god's wishes...and that the ISRO scientists did little for the same. No, no they werent idle. They were dancing, cooking puris, doing some weird calculations on tech that probably they have invented and switching off and then switching on the entire bloody interface to re establish connection. Are you serious???
This movie had a lot of potential to be both an entertainer and simultaneously provide important insights into the think tank behind such an endeveaur. But alas, bollywood knows that this movie will rake in a lot of moolah....so why bother researching and actually putting in effort?? Encash the illiterateness, patriotism of the common masses and warm their asses on the money they will make.
The Tashkent Files (2019)
Google Mitrokhin Archives, skip this movie....
This movie is all over the place and is filled with jumpcuts, plotholes and consists largely of very inconsistent writing. Everything happens so suddenly, you wonder what it is all leading to. It confuses rather than engaging the audience. There are many questions left unanswered even at the end of the movie. Basically, the last 20 minutes is the sole purpose behind making this movie in the first place. They have made any bs story around that last part in order to reveal the corrupt practices of a certain national party presently active in India.
Super 30 (2019)
Bollywood does it's job.....
This film has a considerable amount of very dramatic moments which will make you think you were watching an Ekta Kapoor serial. The first half was atleast engaging and had some subtle moments of comedy. The dramatic moments feel good at first but get on your nerves after some time. A big disappointment for me was not providing a proper insight into Anand Kumar's early life. The film feels REALLY stretched in the second half with a very over the top climax which is laughable more than impactful. The film limps to a very predictable ending but much to my dismay, the level of drama is intact even upto then.
Hrithik Roshan does a really commendable acting job, so do Mrunal Thakur, Aditya Srivastava and of course Pankaj Tripathi which are the major reasons I gave it 4 stars.
The movie could have been a lot better had there not been this much drama but then again it's Bollywood, so what does one expect.....
