The Righteous Gemstones: I Will Tell of All Your Deeds (2022)
Not many laughs in the season finale
Lots of exposition so they wrapped up and excellent season 2 and laid a lot of groundwork for the next but this was possibly the least funny episode of all. Fortunately, when this team gets together their least funny is still better than most shows.
Star Wars: Visions: The Twins (2021)
Some great visuals, but ultimately not a good episode.
Yes, the walking around in space was distracting for me but at least there was a scene where a droid needed a helmet when in space. They acknowledged what they were doing.
I watched the English version and Alison Brie (an actor I usually very much enjoy) dialed it up to 11 with most of her lines. She seemed like a parody of a villain. The brother (Neil Patrick Harris) was fine but his motivation was sketchy at best.
The designs here were appealing and in most cases very fitting for Star Wars. Too bad the story and execution didn't match.
The House (2017)
Some funny parts with a ridiculous plot that goes of the rails
The first 30-40 minutes are fairly promising as long as you buy into the silly premise. But I was still onboard because of the great character actors. There's a lot of funny people in the movie but the script is absurd, and not in a good way.
When a certain act of violence happens in the middle the rest of the movie just doesn't make any sense anymore and it doesn't play by the silly movie town rules they started with. There's laughs at times throughout the movie but not enough for me to recommend it.
Shaft: The Killing (1973)
Character actor filled time capsule.
This is the episode of the Shaft TV series found as a bonus on the Shaft movie Bluray. It first aired forty years ago this week. Interestingly, it's directed by Nick Colosanto. You might recognize him from his most famous role as the absent-minded "Coach" from the show, "Cheers."
The female lead, Janet Du'Bois, is famous as a regular on "Good Times." The rest of the cast is filled with a lot of very familiar character actors. So the episode is not much compared to the movie, but it's entertaining as a time capsule.
Also, it looks like Shaft might not be doing as well. He's moved out of his two-story pad with the great view and the strange clown over the bed into a TV-budget-friendly nondescript apartment.
