Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021)
Brand New David Lyncherry Flavor... A hell of a lot of fun from beginning to end.
Wow, what a fun show, it was a blast and has a little of everything without losing its "flavor".
This show surprised me mainly because I watched it with zero knowledge and expectations. The balance of humour, style and darkness blended perfectly, it feels like the twisted sister of the excellent TV show Happy, even down to the colors and ambiance used in many scenes. There are so many nods to David Lynch in the show but done really well and clearly homages and not ripping off his style. The acting was great from everyone but the 3 main leads were spectacular, Rosa has seriously great acting chops and also great comedy timing.
Can't wait for the second season.
Red Dot (2021)
Solid film with great scenery.
This film has the kind of a Deliverance and Southern Comfort vibes, set in beautiful snowy scenery. The acting seemed great however it's difficult to truly judge the acting and screenplay when you're reading translated subtitles but I'd say all performances were great.
People here giving bad reviews and saying there is no point to this film need to realize that not every single story in life, be it fiction or not, has to balance out perfectly just for their own need for closure. I love the twists and turns and the fact that (SPOILERS follow) the protagonists find themselves in this situation because of some bad luck and bad decisions and this happens in real life, the father was also to blame sending his kid running into the middle of a road and so guilt, and living with it or escaping it, seems to be the main theme of this film.
I'd give it a solid 8/10 mainly because it is a little deeper than a simple good guys running from bad guys survival film.
The Little Things (2021)
A fantastic movie for foreign-film fans...
I'll try to explain myself... I personally loved this movie and it reminded me of many foreign films that often find it completely unnecessary to tie everything up in a nice neat package, not everything in life has a neat resolution and leaves you feeling 100% satisfied, why should movies?
This movie put me in mind, in particular, of the amazing Memories of Murder in many ways and leaves you with the almost exact same feeling the bottom of your gut when the credits roll...
The movie was also very similar to watching a super-condensed season of True Detective and I had no problem whatsoever with the pacing, in fact I kind of wished the movie had been longer and we could have seen more of the fantastic interactions and beautiful (yet often very subtle) acting from everyone involved...
Scare Me (2020)
What The Fun?!?!
This movie was really fun... like it's not really horror per se so that's probably why there are an abundance of bad reviews cos who likes to be disappointed, am I right?
The movie is just very entertaining, but then again I am a fool for small-cast claustrophobic movies (that could just as easily be intimate theatre) ever since being mesmerized by the original Sleuth as a child...
I really don't understand people saying this was boring and overly long, I was thoroughly amused throughout and to me, it felt like a short run-time.
The acting was super quirky and enthralling and I laughed out loud way too many times.
From reading the reviews I can see that this movie is not for everyone, but it was certainly 100% my cup of tea!
Gisaengchung (2019)
A good movie but 4 Oscars good?
Parasite 6/10... very well made movie but is it the first Korean movie the academy have seen??!
The oscars throwing best international movie, best director, best screenplay and best motion picture at this movie just goes to prove my theory that the Academy are so out of touch and so desperately want to appear "woke" and this action by them is just an insult to all the great Korean movies that have come before this and all the other great movies released in the last year.
For me this was an above average South Korean movie but everyone latched onto it as some kind of miracle of modern cinema... Meh academy, meh!
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Once upon a time QT was edgy...
This movie is being hailed as a love letter to the hollywood of yesteryear but that's already been done so many times before and with a better use of ambiance, even in tv shows, not big budget nondirectional overhyped, under developed movies. Leo was great, Brad was Brad (he's not a bad actor, but has done better) and i find it ludicrous that he won the golden globe for this role that required almost zero range as an actor. The movie is ultimately very forgettable and an utter disappointment for any QT fans expecting something edgy and original.
Dead Rising 4 (2016)
Abzolutely Great!
This game was fantaztic!! I've just completed the story mode and after having played the first 3 in the series, this has to be my favorite. The first three had timed events and I, as a completionist and explorer with ADD (oh look, a squirrel bomb) I always felt too rushed in the first three with the timed missions but this one allowed me to enjoy it without the stress. Add to this the amazing menu/pause music and the brilliant Christmas theme, the unbeatable voice acting and you've got the whole package. I have to add that Frank's lines in particular are delivered impeccably and raised many a chuckle from me and even a few gafaws and i just can't believe they haven't made a GOOD dead rising movie with Frank yet with the very same actor as lead.
A great game that I'll no doubt come back to in the future for another pkaythrough at a higher level of difficulty, it might be my new Christmas tradition.
