Ghostbusters (2016)
Terrible
Bad. Not because they are women. Not because they are unfunny. Not because it's a half-assed reboot of a beloved classic. Bad because the story is terrible, the villain is nonsense, Kristin Wiigs talents were wasted, and Kate McKinnon is a terrible actress.
Better writing could have made h the bad acting. And it would have gone a long way in convincing the old heads to welcome this one in.
All of that alone makes a disappointing, subpar movie (like most Melissa McCarthy movies). What created the MASSIVE hatred for this movie is the defense against legit criticism. No, the world isn't sexist because they dislike this movie. No, the world isn't one sequel away from becoming The Handmaids Tale. No, you don't get to march and protest for womens rights because people disliked this movie. This was a terrible attempt of a remake, regardless who was in it. Not accepting that; worse yet, ignoring that; THATS what puts this movie was just bad to a generational joke.
Young Rock (2021)
Terrible
This might be the worst show I have ever seen in my entire life. I think I would rather watch paint dry.
It's corny, it's a less-funny Everybody Hate Chris, less heartwarming than The Wonder Year. This is just bad.
Clearly Dwayne Johnson has major dirt on people at NBC. There's no other reason this show was renewed for a second season.
Eternals (2021)
Terrible
Legitimately the worst movie marvel has put out. The characters themselves are pretty lame, the acting was even worse. Especially Kumail Nanjiani who might have been the worst casting decision in history. Honestly felt somewhat embarrassed for him.
Skip this one.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Good god this show is good
This show somehow captures the 80s without being cheesy or offensive.
Johnny is hilarious. Miguel is Daniel 2.0. And Daniel is a square. The shows writing is superb. It's funny, but the story is also good. The characters grow realistically, even with unrealistic grudges. Daniel's wife is an amazing 3rd wall breaker, and the kid actors are all top notch.
Rugrats (2021)
Don't listen to the bad reviews
Just skimming the bad reviews, you can see it's the same 'ol "I dOnT LiKe cHaNgE" crowd. What they don't understand is most of the adults voice actors have passed away, and we aren't currently living in 1994 anymore.
The animation looks a little weird, but once you get used to it, it's pretty much the exact show as the original. I'm 38, I was 10 when the original came out. I loved it then, and I love this one as well.
The real test was my 9 year old daughter. I tried getting her into nearly everything I was into when I was a kid. Some stick, some don't. This def stuck. She LOVES this show. Mostly for the same reasons I did the original. The cuteness/innocence of a baby's POV mixed with silly stories. This is her favorite tv show, and because of that, I'm affirmed in believing anyone rating this negatively is only doing so because it looks and sounds a tad different than the one they remember.
Santa Inc. (2021)
Yikes
Imagine 2 people, who've never celebrated Christmas, decided to write a movie about why Christmas is racist and sexist. Can't? Well lucky you, Seth Rogan did and made this abomination.
It includes all the traditional Christmas elements we all know and love: systemic racism, unequal treatment of women in the workplace, sexual vulgarity.
If you're not completely crippled by white guilt, this is the holiday movie for you.
Affairs of Cappy Ricks (1937)
Perfect movie to play while you murder someone
I recently watched this movie on a stream before an oscer special and it was ok. Didn't have any of the real actors I really love like Tom Cruz, John Depp, Brad Pitts, but it was still ok.
Ok until the person streaming the movie murdered someone on the livestream. Ran over a true American patriette.
LaRue was one of the members of DKR and will be missed.
1 bag for this movie.
Fair Game with Kristine Leahy (2018)
Trash
Don't know where to begin on this show.
Kristine is not good at interviewing. Which is a big problem considering the whole show is her interviewing people.
One huge issue with her is, when she asks her guests a decent question, (no doubt written by someone else), and they respond with one word, she says 'ok' and moves on. This is painfully evident when she interviews Chris Johnson. Granted, he is not a very forthcoming subject. But she does NOTHING to try to get him to expound on anything he says.
Do you miss the game? Yeah.
Do you like tacos. No.
Ok thanks chris!
She is a pretty girl that could easily be playful/flirty, (a la Kelly Ripa), to at least get her guests to smile. Instead, she reads her questions like a script, and rushes to the next question like she's more concerned with finishing her questionnaire than actually learning about her guest.
Another issue is she seems to think the guests, and her viewers, care about her sports opinions. The premise of her show is to shine the spotlight on her guests. Instead, she takes every opportunity to tell everyone how much of a fan of Boston sports she is, and how much she dislikes the Lakers, Lebron, the Yankees, etc. She gives the impression she is self-absorbed and narcissistic.
With amazing women in sports more deserving of their own shows, like Rachel Nicols, Mina Kimes, Erin Andrews, Joy Taylor, Rachel Bonetta, Michele Tafoya, Sage Steele, etc., she single handedly sets women's careers in sports talk back with her valley girl vernacular.
