Fantastic Four (2005)
Not as goofy as I thought it would be...
I must admit that my expectations were pretty low for this...but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The Fantastic Four have always been annoying...in the comics, in the cartoons, and I expected the same for the movie, but they weren't.
Johnny was of course his usual flippant self, but that's always been a part of his character. I was pretty satisfied with this movie, as the characters were pretty accurately portrayed, and it wasn't as cringe-worthy as the trailer depicted. The story flowed along pretty smoothly...no complaints here. Not to mention Jessica Alba ain't too hard on the eyes either!
Not my favourite Marvel movie...but I am looking forward to the eventual sequel.

Blackmail (2005)
A Joke
Never in my life have I ever seen a more pathetic attempt at a 'thriller' than this movie.
The premise sounded interesting...a former race car driver turned bad. This led me to believe that I would see top notch driving, but was treated to very low octane action. There is NOTHING exciting about watching severely low-powered Indian Lancers and Hondas trying to act 'fast and furious'. It's laughable. The actual storyline didn't help much, either.
Don't watch this...you'll only cringe.
"Make my son a rally car driver!" Give me a break!

Troy (2004)
Magnificent
I'm shaking my head in disbelief as I am reading the reviews written by some people, and all I have to say is there was not a thing wrong with this movie.
I'm a big fan of war movies, and this one was superb. Highly educating as well...admittedly I knew very little about pre-WW1 European history, and now I know a little more.
If you ignore these pompous elitists trying to pass themselves off as movie critics, and appreciate the movie for what it was, you will not be disappointed. Saw this in the theatre, and proud to say I bought the DVD.
9/10.
The Village (2004)
Interesting
This movie is about a lot more than just creating secret societies...I found the actual village to be a microcosm of the real world.
Lies and deceit...creating an enemy that isn't really there is a fine example of tools used by governments (ie. the Elders) to control the population. Should have been a bit of an eye-opener for the clueless and naive people of the world (most conservative people in the U.S. in particular).
Pretty good movie, had to watch it a second time to pick up on things I missed. A great addition to Shyamalan's legacy. What a great filmmaker.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
A Classic
Going to the theatre to watch this movie was supposed to be my 'punishment' (for doing what, I can't remember), but let me tell you, this was the best punishment of my life.
This movie was fantastic! I found it groundbreaking in that it solidly addressed the doublestandards and idiocy that tend to pervade in the minds of a lot of Indian parents. It was definitely an anti-arranged marriage film, which was a plus.
I still watch this movie from time to time, and I have to tell you I thoroughly enjoy it, every time. The songs are great, the actors are great, and the dialogue is pleasing.
A timeless classic, that will probably never be repeated.

Murder (2004)
Good for an Indian flick
I liked this movie cause it was a refreshing change away from the usual nonsensical dribble Indian movies are famous for.
Unfortunately, the concept of originality seems foreign to Bollywood, as this movie is an almost complete ripoff of the 2002 movie "Unfaithful", starring Richard Gere, Diane Lane, and Olivier Martinez...with a few new twists here and there.
Still, I gave it a high score cause it was fun to watch and good for an Indian film...plus we weren't drowned with inane dialogue and senseless song and dance routines every ten minutes.
7/10.
The Transporter (2002)
Makes Jean-Claude look good in comparison
Started off strong with a Ronin type car chase, but got lame and cheesy as it progressed. Not really worth your time, unless you like long and ridiculous fight scenes, with lame dialogue. The story is weak and predictable, and Statham lacks charisma. Even Jean-Claude Van Damme is better than this guy.
4/10...and that's being generous because I liked the Bimmer's smokey burnouts.
Bichhoo (2000)
One of Bobby Deol's best
In my view this is one of Bobby Deol's best. This is different from regular Indian movies, which are usually long, dull, and predictable. Bichhoo is different, and even though it is a copy of Leon the Professional, it is great for an Indian movie. The story doesn't go soft and dry, the songs are not much of a disturbance to the pace, and Bobby Deol is believable as a tough-as-nails, battle-hardened, cold-blooded hero for hire! I didn't like his anti-cursing and anti-smoking attitude though, that was not realistic, not to mention his drinking milk like a good little boy, while he kills people for a living, was a bit out of place, oh well, this is an Indian movie afterall. The opening song with Hansraj Hans was a nice touch.
Overall 9/10.
xXx (2002)
Entertaining
xXx is a film that is not meant to be taken seriously...just like James Bond films. You go into this film expecting to see what you would in a Bond film which is: hot cars, hot action, and hot women. You get that in xXx. Those expecting to see Oscar level acting, plot movement, and character development will be disappointed and shouldn't bother going.
This film is for action fans who want to be entertained, period.
BTW, I just love the GTO!
I gave this an 8 out of 10.
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
Could have been better with the right cast...
Like all sequels, this movie did not live up to what the first one was. Had Christopher Lambert and Bridgette Wilson been in this film, it would have been watchable. Personally the story didn't bother me that much, in fact it was on track with the storyline in the MK3 video game, (except for the relationship between Rayden and Shao Kahn). Overall it was a real let down.
I gave this a 4/10.
