Murder-Set-Pieces (2004)
Should be titled Garbage Boredom DVD
This movie really is the worst. I do not understand where all this hype came from on the box...How "disturbing" and "blood soaked" and "offensive" it is. And the trailer makes it look so extreme (At least the editor is on point...Someone involved in this film knows what they're doing). The only thing that was offensive was the way the director offends the audiences intelligence. This movie is a blatant ripoff of American Psycho...And a poorly done one. The gore is nothing...I've seen more on a SyFy Channel movie. Everything happens offscreen...You barely even see any after effects. There is nothing to redeem this movie. The acting ranges from weak to terrible. There is no suspense or fright. There's no characters that you care about or identify with. Hell...The most charismatic character is the killer. I am beyond disappointed with this crapfest. Want to see some good movies along this genre...Check out Frontiers-Martyrs-In My Skin-Inside-High Tension-the original Texas Chainsaw and Texas Chainsaw 2-House Of 1000 Corpses and even The Devils Rejects-The Lost-the first Saw-both Hostels. Even Laid To Rest was a trillion times better than this
Halloween II (2009)
My opinion
Rob Zombie hit it good with House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects. Now hes milking it and trying to redo a classic. I saw his Halloween...It was garbage. Why redo a classic when the movie still stands? Im so sick of all these 70s/80s horror remakes. The originals are always better...We just proved that with The Last House On The Left. The original is more than 25 years old yet its more experimental and more hardcore Ruthanne the remake. Look at something original.....Frontiers...Martyrs.....Versus...Fudoh. All American "horror" nowadays is remakes or Asian ghost stories or remakes of 70s/80s films. Where are the new ideals? I know the next Romero film will deliver...Im so sick of waiting
Bug (2006)
Like Watching Paint Ddry
Its not that I didn't like the movie. For a little character drama its decent. I don't like how it was billed as a horror movie and that it will leave audiences guessing and all that. I've seen quite a few movies that creep along slowly for the first hour or so but the buildup leads to some really good sh*t.....This movie just builds up to nothing. There's not even any slight semblance of a payoff at the end.....But at least once the credits start rolling all of the sudden you know its over and you can go smoke. I did enjoy the subtle dark humor though. It was this or Hostel 2 at the $2 Super Saver Cinema.....Im not too geeked about the Hostels but we had a 50/50 choice and we blew it with this movie. There's so much more they could have done. They got a hard R but its mostly for nudity I figure. They could have went all out with his paranoia and had him just butchering himself like the guy in Hellraiser 2 that thinks there's bugs all over him. I was expecting to see this guy just slicing and digging himself to shreds. When the "doctor" comes to the room looking for Peter with the womans ex he tells the ex to go wait outside. Then they're talking for forever and Peter kills the guy. The guy thats supposed to be waiting outside never comes back in to see whats going on or anything. After seeing the entire place covered in foil hes not even curious. and if this really is a doctor coming after a very dangerous patient wouldn't he come with some police or with some Army backup if Peter is really escaped from an Army hospital. Its a quite poorly put together film.....It feels very rushed and not very well thought out. If you want a nice dark movie about a crazy guy go get American Psycho or even Falling Down
Niagara, Niagara (1997)
One Of The Best Love Stories
Wow! I caught this on IFC recently after I watched But Im A Cheerleader. Id never heard of this movie but the description sounded remotely interesting. I went in with low expectations and now I must say this is one of the best love stories ever in film. Robin Tunney does an excellent job portraying a person with tourettes. The relationship between the two and just the slightest details in the film are so acurate and believable. I usually hate "romance" and love films but this movie truly touched me. I so recommend this movie to anyone with the ability of vision.
Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993)
Now Funnier Than Ever
I found Hot Shots 2 amongst my videos while I was rearranging my shelves of movies and decided to pop it in after not seeing it for a few years. I used to think it was funny but right now with the war in Iraq its even funnier. I snickered at every scene with Saddam. The scene where the "towelhead" is wearing a Holiday Inn towel on his head was so funny I fell off my sofa. With movies like these (Hot Shots-Airplanes-Naked Guns-Spy Hard-etc) they throw so many "gags" at you that even when one isnt funny theres something funny coming within a few seconds. Overall its a funny movie made funnier by current events. See it yo!
Cutting Moments (1996)
Some Sick Sh*t
Wow! Ive seen all the Faces Of Deaths-all the Death Files-a bunch of Japanese "real death" tapes-Aftermath-tons of Italian gore films-Japanese gore films-the entire Guines Pig series-some "snuff" films that seemed to be legit to me and so on. The last short on Cutting Moments still made me shiver.....and I am so not squeamish. The first few films are easily forgetable and seem like some of the lamer films youd expect on Atom or I Film or Hypnotic but the last short Cutting Moments is sick. Some of the most realistic and brutal gore Ive ever seen. This is one of those films you pop in and just tell someone to watch then watch their reaction. I so sont wanna give anything away but this is a must see. I believe Suncoast and other movie stores should have it or be able to order it. It can also be ordered direct from Alternative Cinema at www.AlternativeCinema.com.
Koroshiya 1 (2001)
Another Must See
This is one of those movies that definately wont appeal to the "mainstream" (AKA stupid) movie audience who thinks Independence Day is the finest piece of cinema ever done. This is a weird-wild-bloody-insane-etc poece of Japanese trash cinema along the lines of Fudoh-Versus-The Story Of Ricky-the guinea Pig films andf so on. Pretty much its like watching an anime done live action. Its so over the top it cannot be taken seriously. Many people bash it for being so outrageous but thats the fun of it. Its supposed to be completely insane. I highly recommend this film especially to fans of Dead Alive-Fudoh-Dead Or Alive-The Story Of Ricky-Wild Zero and Versus. It fits nicely into the little genre known as "splatstick"!
Versus (2000)
One Of The Best
This is truly one of the best examples of the new fringe Asian cinema genre. From the opening credits till the end credits this film is nonstop action. The fight scenes were choreographed by the same crew that did Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Matrix. Its pretty much Yakuza vrs zombies in a forrest. The fight scenes (pretty much like 90% of the film) are absolutely awesome! This is like wathing an anime/manga come to life. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies-manga/anime and definately to anyone who likes the new Japanese genre of crazy movies (such as Fudoh-The Story Of Ricky-Ichi The Killer-Dead Or Alive-Run And Kill-etc). Before this I thought Hard Boiled was the most intense action packed movie ever but this blows Hard Boiled away. Relentless! Right now I believe Versus is only available "bootlegged" but I think Tokyo Shock is doing a US DVD release soon. Definately a must own!
Ginger Snaps (2000)
This Movie "Snaps" Freshness Into A Stale Genre
Overall the horror genre has barely trudged along in the 90s with a series of unoriginal films and too many sequels. This movie not only provides an interesting spin on the werewolf idea but also a fresh entry into horror. This is one fo the most realistic "creature" movies. The characters are very believable and the situation of a girl becoming a werewolf as fantastical as it is is made believable in this movie. The two lead actresses are both talented and very attractive. This is one fo those rare movies that actually leave an impression on you after seeing it. Definately go out and BUY (not rent) this DVD!
The Decline of Western Civilization (1981)
A Must See For All "Punks"
This is one of the best films made about the 80 punk scene. I saw this a few years back on a "bootleg" copy and was amazed. Very few of todays kids know the true roots of punk and this movie shows some of the 80s punk legends such as The Germs and shows how it was back then. Nowadays so much punk has gone mainstream with MTV and radio and its nice to see the true underground rebellious movement of the original scene. Darby Crash (of The Germs) is one of my heros and this film shows why. A must see for all "punks" and anyone curious about the 80s punk scene
Le lac des morts vivants (1981)
A Must See
I picked this up on VHS at Suncoast for like $5 a few years back and just finally opened it and watched it the other day. This is truly the worst movie I have ever seen. The zombies "FX" is just green and black makeup (with noticeable flaws such as green faces but normal flesh tone necks and hands). In one scene when the zombies attack a woman they proceed to bite at her neck yet when the zombie pulls away they show the neck and there are no holes-bites-shreds-etc.....just smeared blood. About 10% of this movie is just naked women swimming in the lake which would not be all too bad if the women werent so ugly. This movie is so made for Mystery Science Theater 3000 but Its so bad its hard to even be humorous about it. Worth watching just for its absolute lack of entertainment-plot-intelligence-etc. This is barely even able to be called a movie. A monkey with a camcorder could come up with something better than this garbage!
