Make Up (2019)
Lesbian Drama with Chills
An enjoyable, dark and mysterious lesbian drama which I enjoyed.
It had a couple of stumbles in plot after the midpoint but only if you're not forgiving of this films art house sprinklings.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Amazing Dr Sleep
Such a wonderful movie to follow up from The Shining. Nothing like Kubrik's masterpiece which I prefer. If it had been exactly the same it wouldn't of been as good. The fact that it tries to find its own space is really good.
Greta (2018)
Could of Been Great
There is so much to say about this title that might verge on the negative so I'll resist. What I will say is the story itself could of been something great but fell short. Namely the performances were a little sub par. It's not that they were terrible, far from it. They were just seemingly out of character for what was expected of them in those situations.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Not Good
Sadly this movie has nothing to new to add to the franchise. It is as if it killed it. If you reallyt loved 1 and 2 like I then I propose you skip this dire excuse of a story.
The Shining (1980)
Chilling
This film is still to this day a very scary movie. It doesn't need to rely on the quick fix ideas of gore. There is little but not like the modern tripe that dominates. This is a movie based on storytelling and that alone holds it in place. The performances are strong and spooky. The ambience the same. Kubrik knocked this one out the park. Not just a halloween watch.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Haunting
Scary and hauning. Sutherland is excellent as the anti-hero. Strong performances all round. In my collection.
It (2017)
Scary
There are some brilliant moments in this. I'm not going to add any spoliers. It's a film we enjoyed a lot. It wasn't as good as the previous 'original', but that out the way it is scary in parts.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Excellent
Very enjoyable movie, just brilliant. I've always been a huge fan of the Coen brothers and this one doesn't disappoint. It was well crafted, funny and entertaining.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Another Netflix Gem
Both hubby and I enjoyed watching this the other night, It was gripping and made for good late night TV. Netflix are going from strength to strength with strong titles. There were some average moments but that out the way it was enjoyable.
The Village in the Woods (2019)
Quirky slow burn low budget with chills that rise.
Really cool little movie. 70's homage stuff with a twist of modern. Charles played by Hope drops some weird, odd creepy stares. Maddy his counterpart has this sort of wanna devour you (get the hint?) thing going on. Subtle but very effective. There's a menacing threat running through it which I dig. Fans of hardcore horror step away. Seriously this film is not a slasher. But, if you like Midsommar or maybe The Witch this will appeal. Recommended!
It Chapter Two (2019)
Worth a Watch
This film was definitley worth a watch but falls short of the feel of the original. IT reamake was OK, but too many jump scares are well- too many.
The Irishman (2019)
Scorsese Returns!
I had the priv of watching this at a screening via BFI. I loved every moment of it. I'm not going to give any spoliers. It's good- what more do you to need know?!
