Imawa no Kuni no Arisu (2020)
Strong start, Bad Finish
The nonsense starts at THE Beach. Plus, more violence against women. Strange and unnecessary to have focus on that.
Why do the killers have backstories, but not the decent characters? And such random timing with them.
And who would trust teen girls to be in charge of games where people die? That was second dumbest plot point.
The dumbest was THE WITCH HUNT game, where a bunch of people get murdered cause the leader said so. Said leader killed his friend, who was also a psycho. And killing his friend made him want everyone else to die and kill others.
I had a problem with the shooting deaths, because they seem to stylize the shooters or make their killings seem so easy to do. Japan hasn't suffered mass shootings like the US, so they don't really seem to get the message they're sending. Nobody needs a backstory on the guy shooting a bunch of people. What? Am I supposed to have sympathy for him? He just shot like 30 people.
Too much shooting death. Soured the mood of the show and made it not entertaining. I don't wanna see real life on screen in this kind of show.
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Connection to TV Series and Other Points
I just started watching the 1980s FRIDAY THE 13th TV series this past year. The main actor from that show helps to kill Jason in the end. It's too bad they didn't keep his character name as well. The TV series is pretty awesome, no connections to the film series cannon wise though.
So, as in the TV series, a magic item must be found to kill the monster. It's a nice tie-in to the series. Makes sense now why there is a fist fight at the end, as only THAT hero from the TV series could do such a thing. He finally got to fight Jason.
Other
-some of the grossest stuff in a Jason film. Guy eating heart, woman cut in half, guy's body melting. The makeup was pretty good compared to 8.
-I liked they made some backstory to the family and we got to see the house for the first time. I like the mythology of the series more than the Jason kills. More supernatural elements were introduced to add some diversity to the series.
-music is bad, acting is hit and miss.
-Two of the Jason demon possessions are acted well. Main hero did a good job. The bounty hunter was original and would have loved to seen him live, be in more movies. When you look back at previous movies, some of the characters were terrible and annoying as hell. The annoying diner staff gets killed, rather brutally.
-Jason's worm demon was on a mission with a goal. Plot holes I know, but makes more sense than just wantonly killing a bunch of teens. It's important to have goals these days!
Lost After Dark (2015)
Jason Fan Films are Better
Got it for $4.99 and barely worth that. ITunes should offer movies like this for 99¢.
Had potential, but no background character build up for villain. No nudity (not much of an 80s homage), only black actor dies (why keep promoting this?), and lack of 80s music.
Some semi serious acting would've improved things. A fight with the villain to keep things exciting.
End credits music was best part, tbh.
Godzilla (2014)
Where is Godzilla
As a longtime fan of the series the last thing I care about are the character stories. It's a Godzilla movie. Monster fighting. As mentioned in honest trailers, 80% you don't see the title character. Less than 12 mins.
In terms of monster action, clear and visible, the 1998 Hollywood is by far more fun and entertaining. This movie was dark and had little Bryan Cranston in it. Zero comedy. Way too serious and trying to make the character scary?
Will never watch again
A Good Day to Die Hard (2013)
Not Enough McClane, Too Much Mindless/Pointless Action
As a big fan of the original, I was interested to see what would happen when John McClane is in another country. Seeing as how this was a poorly-directed action movie, I was disappointed.
I say poorly-directed because of the cause and effect of the action sequences. As the hero, McClane isn't supposed to cause wanton destruction and indirectly murder civilians. The overly long car chase makes it clear that several car drivers died as a result of the chase. It's rather bizarre to see a hero act as such.
Also, the Die Hard series is famous for smack talk. McClane talks smack to the villains and just about everyone else in between. He barely cracks jokes here. The movie felt more like a cheap Euro-action movie that was labeled a Die Hard movie after the fact. Think of all the cheap European action movies Wesley Snipes has made.
Jai Courtney's acting is stiff as McClane's son. The small scenes McClane had with his daughter were far more interesting. He has better chemistry with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, hands down.
Another downfall of the movie was the unclear plot. Some Russian political story that required a lot of subtitles was not a wise choice. As an action fan (and Die Hard fan), I don't wanna read subtitles 1/3 of the movie.
Compared to "Live Free or Die Hard", it's a pretty big letdown. Bruce Willis does his best with what little he's got, but he can't save the convoluted plot or stop the villain from being so lame. The villain was a Russian gangster, politician scientist. Not sure, TBH, it was confusing to understand his purpose. That's a major flaw, especially for a Die Hard movie. The main villain isn't interesting or worth understanding.
It's an OK action movie overall, but in terms of the series, it's the weakest. Lack of character development and comedy.
