2:22 (2017)
Underrated
The first act of this movie is all over the map, confusing, and at points frustrating enough that I wasn't surprised by the less than stellar rating on IMDb. But I'm glad I didn't see the score beforehand and let it discourage me from watching this underrated movie, because as it progressed it all came together and the ending was very good.
Those normally avoiding time travel movies or movies repeating the same day should still give this one a chance. It is not Groundhog Day, Happy Death Day, or Back to the Future. The time element is much different and combined with two likable main characters make it an enjoyable watch.
Shotgun Wedding (2022)
Not my usual genre, but enjoyable
Shotgun Wedding isn't my usual genre, but as it progressed I found myself enjoying it more and more. The cast was great, though not surprisingly Jennifer Coolidge stole the show, which she tends to do often. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of action, with shootouts, fights, and fleeing scattered throughout the movie from almost the start until the end.
Being married to a Filipina and quite familiar with the Philippines, the big reveal was less than big and somewhat spoiled, but it was still entertaining to watch the characters figure things out in an intense yet hilarious fashion.
I wouldn't recommend skipping a 10 star movie to watch it, but if you need an evening of brainless hilarious fun, this movie is a good one to choose.
First Blood (1982)
Excellent movie, plenty of action
John Rambo is a Vietnam veteran still haunted by the demons of the war the soldiers weren't allowed to win. The transient Rambo goes to see one of his friends and fellow soldier only to find out he died from exposure to agent orange.
While passing through a small town, the local sheriff spots him and decides their quiet community isn't the place for people like Rambo. After refusing to leave, Rambo is arrested, tortured, and ultimately escapes into the dense forest.
The rest of the movie is a cat and mouse game between the local sheriff's department, state police, national guard, and Rambo, with Rambo ultimately becoming the cat and the police the mice.
Rambo is fast paced, full of action, and the last several minutes of the movie are unforgettable as Rambo breaks down and for the first time since the war vocalizes the demons that still haunt him.
