Greenland (2020)
Good Basic Disaster Movie
A pretty generic disaster movie. It differs because the main characters are not the usual boffins - just ordinary people. Despite my comment below, the plot is pretty solid.
What's disturbing is the depiction (as so often is the case) of the violence that disasters engenders in American society.
It's either a poor plot or a sad commentary on the USA.
Counter Measures (1998)
So Bad it Beggars Belief
To say the acting is wooden is an insult to trees.
The script is clearly the outcome of a Creative Writing project for 8 year olds.
The sets are so obviously made from plywood, MDF and cheap blue paint, they look like a school production.
The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese.
Especially. Authentic is that a Russian submarine has so many displays in English.
It sets a new low for the B-movie.
Geostorm (2017)
Fairly Standard Disaster Flic
Some pretty good special effects surround a template disaster movie.
If you enjoy this genre (I do) you'll like this. But once again, the US rules the World and are in entire control of a Global facility. Once again, the outcome for the heroes (2) and his small family is more important than the millions of people impacted worldwide and the $trillions of damage.
Standard stuff, and nothing to think too hard about. Ignore the geo-political and scientific nonsense portrayed and eat your popcorn.
Flood (2007)
If you enjoy a disaster movie...
A typical disaster movie with a little too much "personal" tragedy.
However, it is just a little more believable than most, and feels at least plausible. The cast is a role call of top talent and, in the main, portray their character in a (for this genre) in a believable way.
We all know that disaster movies are far-fetched and over dramatised. Given that, this does the job well and is a worthy attempt. Pop-corn at the ready; sit down and enjoy one of the best (what we know to be rubbish) movies of its type.
