Seoulyeok (2016)
Much darker than TTB, but nonetheless worthwhile
Almost all the zombie flicks I've seen so far have had a silver lining no matter how harrowing the climax was. Seoul Station, well, stood out, eliminating all the protagonists towards the end. And that was one of the features that made it fun to watch, not to mention that the show was set to be at night which made matters decidedly creepier. What also made this show comparable to TTB was that it had similar jarring, grim scenes during which everyone's lives were at stake. All in all, this was a little different from what I was expecting, but still highly watchable.
Busanhaeng 2: Bando (2020)
Not bad, but not great either...
First, let me get this straight: I'm writing this based on the fact that I was expecting this zombie flick not to be an actual "sequel" to TTB. This allowed me to enjoy it a bit more.
But here's what brought the rating down:
1. It was too rushed and hence there wasn't enough time for solid character development. A handful of interesting characters but honestly I thought I could have seen a bit more...
2. Some scenes were kinda cliche, not much explanation needed. Let's move on...
3. What's with all the cars? Solid start here but the next few scenes strangely brought back memories of Mad Max? A tad bit unoriginal but alright, I guess this is what makes the show more unique...
Still though, all these issues doesn't make the show unwatchable, at least; the negative reviews are slightly overblown. It could have been much worse.
Home Before Dark (2020)
Seriously?!
This series was unbelievably childish and amateurish! Give me back my brain cells!
Shingeki no kyojin: Endo obu za wârudo (2015)
Just as uncool as the prequel...
Like in the prequel, the part two of the SnK live-action adaptation strayed way too far from the storyline of the manga and anime, and in fact the new plot was much worse! All the main elements of the original story were missing, the Titans weren't explained at all, and some parts towards the ending weren't even that clear (not to mention that live-action Hanji was noticeably less likeable than in the anime, with all that yelling throughout the movie).
To be fair, it's not all bad, though. The apocalyptic atmosphere was well-set and the Titans were scary enough. However, what's the point of good CGI and imagery when the story, which is just as important, is absolutely no good?
If you're interested then there's no stopping you in watching this adaptation, but just don't come out regretting and thinking that you've just wasted your time. After all, Levi and Ymir did say that one should not have any regrets about what they do. Well, if you're a fan of the SnK anime and manga like me, it's simply safer to not watch it.
