Designated Survivor (2016)
I nice plot idea that doesn't last
The premise of this show, about being the Designated Survivor, is intriguing and the story line that flows through the first season links to this.
However, once you get past the first season, there is just a tenuous link to a super-rich bad-guy who appeared mid season 1. We are no longer in designated survivor territory, but into full blown "i'm a president". And thus, this is just another white house drama.
If you like overly Americanised drama and can ignore the very many glaring inaccuracies then it's a reasonable watch with some well-rounded characters.
However, if you bristle and ridiculous characters who would be thrown out of any office/political building in moments. Or, incredibly unbelievable characters; Abe Leonard in Season 1 trying to pull off being a grizzled old hack with gravitas!!
If you don't like nonsense like someone immediately clicking a couple of mouse buttons and being able to see on a map of Amsterdam where excessive power is being consumed. Or perhaps, clearly fragile people (Hannah Wells) surviving crashes, diving from high speed vehicles, beating up special forces operatives; all in a row. Well then, this is going to really frustrate you, as it did me.
It reminded me why I stopped watching 24.
The 100 (2014)
I really tried to like it
I really liked the premise of the show and honestly wanted to like it. But, every episode is full of totally unrealistic events and actions.
The characters are fairly well formed, if a little two dimensional, and there seems to be lots of potential for many of their interactions and relationships to be fleshed out. However, the writers have chosen to skip any reality (I know it is fantasy, but it does need to make sense).
Drop 100 criminal kids in, what is to them, an alien world, and weeks/months later they are all getting along, eating and drinking well, plus making their own moonshine and having parties. Utter BS.
Once Upon a Time in Iraq (2020)
Just astonishing
All of the allied forces, and specifically the United States should be shameful to their cores.
This is a perfect example of the lack of US understanding of how any of the rest of the world works, mixed with typical arrogance.
The total ignorance of the invading forces, and their complete lack of a plan that went beyond rolling up and shooting people. Almost unbelievable.
The story needed telling, it should be watched no matter how hard it it is.
Impressive how the makers got so many people to speak so candidly, even those who should be embarrassed by their actions during the needles conflict.
Nathan for You (2013)
Wildly unfunny
Perhaps it is a transatlantic thing. Maybe in the US this attempt at humour is funny.
I just found it incredibly predictable, dull and puerile. I love all forms of comedy, but this is some form of sub-genre that makes no sense.
Save yourself the trouble of watching it.
Manhunter (1986)
A big letdown
Having heard that this is "better than Silence of the Lambs" I am very disappointed.
The script is dire, and the acting is terrible. The plot is about as thin as it can get and there are no surprises at all.
I only watched to the end because I had paid to but the DVD, which is limited edition. It will never get played again. This is the only film I have ever bought that will just collect dust.
I can't stress more that this is one of the worst films I have ever seen and I just can not understand how anyone rates it at all.
