The Truth About Charlie (2002)
A Truly Eclectic Movie
Of all the movies that I have seen in the last few years, none have I enjoyed as much as this. The plot is threadbare, yet it works in the films favor. The acting is fantastic, especially a particularly delightful Thandie Newton, whom I had doubts about since her particularly one-sided performance in MI:2. Mark Wahlberg was his atypical self, detached, outside, yet deeply involved, and it fit his character well.
The locations and extra casting are excellent, instead of portraying France as the place of ultimate beauty as is often seen, or a city plagued with an over-abundance of harlots, it is seen here as a place that is crowded and populated with very bizarre characters.
The movie suffers from a sort of mordant wit, the end sequence being in and of itself worth watching the entire movie for. I recommend seeing this with someone who is not of the "popcorn movie" fan club, as they won't understand what was trying to be achieved.
I'd give this 4 1/2 out of 5.
Jurassic Park III (2001)
At least it doesn't pretend...
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** to have a deep plot. The thing that makes this movie stand miles above Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World is that above all else, the movie itself seems to realize it is a shallow concept, but still tells the story in a very enjoyable way. The shots of the dinosaurs fighting each other was awesome, by far the best CGI creatures seen as yet (it may be just me, but when the T-rex is killed, I felt it was as though it were to slam the over-use of T-rex's in JP2). If you haven't seen this movie, do so, but see it as you would watch a sporting event. Go with a friend, and one person root for the dinosaurs, and the other root for the people.
Will there be a Jurassic Park 4? if they do so, I would hope it would be more like an Aliens style movie,
