Red Dragon (2002)
WAY better than 'Manhunter'
If you enjoyed the book, you will love the movie. This film version of the book follows much closer than 'Manhunter' which thoroughly irritated me. One problem I did have with this movie was the choice of Ralph Fiennes as Dolarhyde. He is too young and WAY too pretty! Part of the reason that Dolarhyde is so disturbed is his physical abnormalities and general unattractiveness. I did like Philip Seymour Hoffman as Freddy Lounds... Hoffman is great at playing dislike-able characters. If you liked this movie and have not read the book, go out and get it now! Although the movie is great, the book is much, much better and a great choice for anyone who enjoys horror/suspense.
Faerie Tale Theatre: Sleeping Beauty (1983)
Great for kids or kids at heart
This presentation of Sleeping Beauty is delightfully amusing. I am a huge fan of Christopher Reeve and love Sleeping Beauty, so I absolutely HAD to see this when I heard about it. As always, Christopher Reeve gives a wonderful performance as the prince and works very well with the rest of the cast. Although she does not fit my picture of Sleeping Beauty, Ms. Peters is fabulous and entertaining. The costumes and scenery are very colorful and fairytale-ish, as they should be. There are several supporting characters who are very amusing, and you can tell that the entire cast must have had immense fun in this production. This is definitely geared towards young children but will no doubt delight parents as well.
