Three's Company (1976)
One of the funniest sitcoms ever!
I used to watch this show growing up and I still watch re-reuns sometimes. This is the only show that I can watch over and over again and still laugh my head off. John Ritter was a master of slapstick and pratfalls in this show. I also loved Suzanne Summers as Chrissy. Mr. Roper was funny. I always felt that Mrs. Roper was a little annoying but that's how the character was supposed to be. I thought Mr. Furley was the perfect replacement. They wanted someone as flashy and annoying as Mrs. Roper and that was Mr. Furley to a T. They couldn't go wrong with Don Knotts. I love the dynamic that developed towards the end between Mr. Furley and Larry. Those two were hilarious together. They should have gotten their own show but I know that the producers were trying to follow the original British series and couldn't divert from that.
I agree with other reviewers that this is one show that could never be rebooted. The premise would never work in this day and age.
Avgrunden (2023)
It was okay.
I don't speak Swedish so I watched it dubbed in English. Unfortunately sometimes dubbing takes a little bit away from the performance. I didn't know anything about Kiruna and now I have to read about it. The movie wasn't great. It was more family drama than disaster. It took too long to get to the actual disaster which was what I was there for.
There are two scenes that really bothered me. First when they are in the town and everything is falling apart, they come upon a mother who is just standing still with a toddler and an infant in a stroller. They urge her to run and Sabir grabs the toddler and starts running. Then instead of picking up the baby, Aila grabs the stroller and starts running. At no point does the mother try to run back and help her. Who does that?! When the stroller emerges from the smoke and they realize Aila is gone, the mother again just stands there. Terrible acting. A mother separated from her baby would be hysterical and would run to see if he is okay.
The other scene is when they are at the school and Frigga finds Simon and Tina. Tina was in more dire need but Frigga focuses on Simon. I get that Simon is her child and I also understand that maybe she felt that Tina was harder to get to and probably wasn't going to make it anyway but that child was in pain and scared and when she begs Frigga for help, instead of comforting her, she tells her to be quiet. I was shocked.
This was basically just something to watch while I was doing something else. I would not watch it again.
Griselda (2024)
It was okay.
I'm from Miami but I was too young during the time period depicted so I had never heard of Griselda Blanco and can't say anything about the accuracy of the story. I like Sofia Vergara and she did a good job. The only thing I didn't like is that the make up and prosthetics made her look older when she is suppose to be portraying someone a lot younger. Based on her date of birth, Griselda was in her 30s during the time period depicted. Vergara is in her 50s and although she still looks good for her age, it was still a big age difference and the make up didn't help. I realize they were trying to make her ugly to look more like Griselda and at that they exceeded.
With only 6 episodes, it was easy to binge watch.
Glitch (2015)
Good Series.
I watched the whole thing and I liked it. There was one thing that I never understood. The other risen came back healed and healthy, yet William still has welts on his back. That doesn't make any sense.
I don't think season 3 is as bad as others reviewers are saying although there were a couple of things that didn't make sense. First, James bumps his head on a bathroom sink and supposedly dies and comes back. He bumped his head hard but it wasn't bad enough for him to have died instantaneously. Same thing happened with Peter. He fell down the steps but it wasn't that bad of a fall for him to have died. Then there is Kate and the blood transfusion. You don't just arbitrarily give someone blood without checking if it's compatible and as a nurse, Kate would know that yet she still gives Owen's sister the transfusion.
I thought the ending wrapped things up nicely. I wish they could have all lived their lives but they couldn't because they weren't supposed to be there.
Tales of the Walking Dead (2022)
Worth a Try
I watched the whole thing. The first episode defies TWD logic. The main character leaves a secure bunker to go find a girl he had met online before the outbreak. He risks life and limb to find someone he doesn't know from Adam and what does she do when they meet? She slips him a pot brownie. Seriously?!
The second episode was just plain stupid. A time loop? Really?
The third episode is supposed to be about Alpha's origin but the story is not consistent with the back story presented on the original series. In the original flashbacks, she and Lydia were alone when they met the man who became Beta and they started the Whisperers together but here she and Lydia meet the already established Whisperers and she becomes Alpha after killing their leader.
The fourth episode has a scientist tracking and studying the walkers like if they were animals.
In the fifth episode we finally see survivors in a different country. It appears to take place in Canada as they speak English and French.
The last episode incorporates a little bit of the supernatural when our two survivors start to see ghosts. That was different.
Overall, it wasn't great but it's something to watch.
The Chosen One (2023)
Interesting
I watched the whole thing. It was a good story but there were just a couple of things I didn't like. I found the whole Jodie/Magda romance appalling. They took things way too far considering that the actors are actual children. Both of them are only 14.
The other thing I didn't like was Angelo's public whipping. I can't believe they would display such savagery against a child.
I realize that things might be different in Mexico but Netflix is worldwide and they should know better.
Like I said, it was a good story but it would have been better without the romance and the whipping. Those things were not necessary.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Holiday Must
I love all the Vacation movies. You can't go wrong with Chevy Chase. The whole thing with the lights is ridiculously hilarious. Who lives in a house for years and doesn't know that a particular outlet is controlled by a switch? Clark Griswold of course!
This is a good wholesome comedy with a lot of big-name actors. In this movie, the Griswold children are portrayed by a very young Johnny Galecki and Juliet Lewis. Randy Quaid is back as Cousin Eddie. There is also Doris Roberts and Diane Ladd as the grandmothers while E. G. Marshall and John Randolph portray the grandfathers. Rounding out the cast is Brian Doyle Murray as Clark's boss and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as the snobby neighbor.
Bodies (2023)
Good Watch
I watched the whole series and liked it. I love Sci-Fi and I love detective stories so this was perfect for me. It was interesting to see the different time periods too. They did a good job with the different sets. I also like the way that the four stories eventually intertwine.
My only issue is that at first I thought Polly was Hillinghead's sister. The actors who portray Alfred and Charlotte are a bit too young to be her parents, even for the 1800s. They should have been portrayed by older actors.
I also felt that the whole romantic element between Hillinghead and Ashe was unnecessary to the story but I know that some people want that.
Liebes Kind (2023)
Good Suspense
I binge watched the whole thing. I got so hooked that I couldn't wait to find out what was going on.
I don't speak German so I watched with the English dubbing and I also use subtitles as I sometimes have trouble hearing. I noticed that sometimes the dubbing doesn't match the subtitles so it was hard to know what they were actually saying but I could still follow the story.
I recommend watching the whole series. Part of a suspense film is that sometimes things don't make sense at the beginning and this series is no different. There is a lot that viewers might not understand if they don't watch the whole thing but if they keep watching, things will start to make sense.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Should Have Been Shorter
This series wasn't bad but it should have been a miniseries. It was supposed to be about the beginning of the outbreak. I expected to learn more about how the virus came about and how it began to spread but there was none of that. Instead zombies just started appearing without explanation. Then, by extending it so much, they turned it into the same thing as the original series except that they had already killed off most of the original group by the third season. I haven't seen the whole thing yet as I haven't been able to find it streaming anywhere. I don't understand why Netflix has the original but not this one.
Madre de alquiler (2023)
Good Series
I don't understand the bad reviews. The series is not that bad. It's the typical Mexican novela with the rich boy/poor girl relationship.
Those that are hung up on the split embryo/twin element obviously didn't watch the whole thing. A split embryo doesn't always result in a multiple birth. Early on, Carlos discovers that his daughter has Yeni's hereditary birthmark and it is later revealed that the girl is Yeni's biological daughter conceived when she had sex with Carlos. The boy is the product of the surrogacy. They are not really twins. It's called superfetation.
The actors did a good job. I like Leticia Calderon and she was great as Nora.
As a native Spanish speaker, I watched it with the original audio.
Triada (2023)
Good Thriller
I watched the whole thing in one day. I liked it but I was disappointed that Ana Layevska, the only actor I knew in the cast , had such small and insignificant role.
I see that other reviewers say that it's a copy of Orphan Black. I've never seen that series but I read the Wiki and I don't see a resemblance here. Triptych is not about clones at all.
I agree that this series has a couple of plot holes at the end. First the sisters got away from the doctor who was holding them at gun point and left her locked up and then Eugenio miraculously survived the car accident without even a scratch. All with no explanation what so ever.
I should mention that I am a native Spanish speaker so I watched it with the original audio.
Little Man (2006)
Classic Wayans Comedy
I just saw it on Netflix for the first time. I love the Wayans. This wasn't their best work but it was funny. The premise is ridiculous. The idea of a grown man with dwarfism posing as a little baby is ludicrous. He may have been small but dwarfism doesn't affect aging or puberty so full adult dentition, musculature, mature body parts, bodily hair and the tattoo should have been enough for anyone to know Calvin was not a baby yet he apparently fooled everyone, even a doctor. That's part of what comedy is, dumb and unbelievable. If you have a sense of humor, you will appreciate this movie for what it is, just silly slapstick comedy.
La valla (2020)
Excellent Series
It is a good series for those who like apocalyptic type stories. My daughter was watching and I saw a couple of episodes with her. I liked it so much that I decided to watch from the beginning when I got home. I got so hooked that I ended up binge watching the entire series in one day. I just could not wait to find out what happened next. I am glad it had a happy ending. I just did not understand the part at the end where Alma was greeting people from a balcony. I cannot believe anyone would elect her after what she did.
I am a native Spanish speaker so of course I watched it with the original audio and not dubbed. I was not familiar with any of the actors but I though the cast was superb and will now look for more of their work.
Charmed: The Fifth Halliwheel (2002)
A new era for the show
With the introduction of Elize and the Bay Mirror, this was the beginning of a new era for the show. However, there is something that has always bothered me. Piper ate the Seer's candy too and later, after being told she is sterile, ends up pregnant with the all powerful Wyatt. Yet, the candy angle is something that was never explored as the sisters never knew. In a later episode, Cole is surprised to learn that Piper is pregnant but never mentions the candy. He doesn't get a chance as he is told to leave.
Charmed: Morality Bites (1999)
The girls get a glimpse of the future.
I like this episode. I just wish they would have taken the storyline a little further. At the end of the episode, the sisters realize that their careless dog walking neighbor is Pratt, the witch hunting DA from the future, and vow to keep an eye on him. There was a lot they could have done with that yet that storyline was abandoned and Pratt is never even mentioned again.
