Everything is so terrible
20 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Taiwan film is dead.As one of the recent Taiwan films,it's terrible. The plot is terrible.By telling a story about thieves, the film tries to tell something more about the problem of the whole society, but obviously failed. The plot is nothing but ridiculous self-pity of the special part of the society.Don't know how to make the story right, the director add some gangs in the film, and let them kills the main characters for almost no reasonable excuse, making the film even more stupid. The performances are also terrible. The leading role Da Yu shows no talents. The other actors, though better than this boy, fail to get the motivation across to the audience. Lack of talented writes, directors, actors, and most important of all, money leads to fail of many Taiwan films. Don't waste you time on this totally failed product of a dead film industry

Iron Man (2008)

take a long time to tell a story but finally fail
30 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
i'm from China,so i can see the movie a little earlier than most north American audience.i admit i'm not a cartoon adapted film fan.i think the movie is just so so. it takes a long time to tell the story which is not very complicated.but i still can't figure out what the characters are doing for.why did a successful businessman has to promote his weapon in such a dangerous site?why don't the terrorists just take stark as a kidnapper?what's in stark's mind when he is developing the new equipment?it looks as if being a powerful weapon is just an accidental discovery attached to being able to fly.the bad guy nearly kills all his customers to get the abandoned equipment which they have given him.who does he want to sell to?American government?is stark just want to use the steel thing ruin all the weapons he invented?that would be too stupid!the plot is full of things like that.i've never seen the original cartoon books before, but i believe it can't be so stupid.the film is quite funny with all these jokes, though i never laughed about one hour after the showing,a little boy seated beside me tells his father:why is there just people talking?i also wonder why doesn't the director satisfy our eyes well while it's obviously not for people expect a good story.the action scenes are just okay when compared with films like transformers, and it seems too brief.i'm not excited by it. Robert Downey Jr. did quite well in being a humorous playboy, but failed to be smart.i think it's not him to blame but the screenplay.what's more, can't arise a little sense of worship in me.he just doesn't look like a super hero.Gwyneth Paltrow did quite well in being a beautiful, thoughtful, helpful assistant.their relationship is quite interesting in the film. you may notice i didn't give a very low rated.that's because, though not great in any aspect,it's not terrible any where except for the rotten screenplay, which may not be very important in this kind of movies.it's lighthearted, humorous, interesting to watch, and above average level.

As sweet as blueberry pies
23 December 2007
This is a typical Kar Wai Wong film.Even some of the music is borrowed from In the mood for love.I have long been a Kar Wai Wong film fan. This is his first English language film. But the Kar Wai Wong style is still there. This movie seems to have met before. The Rachel Weisz part make me think of Texas,Paris the moment I heard the monologue. The idea crossing the America is not fresh either. As to Norah Jones, her role is just like Amélie. But there's something sweet in all these.Unlike Amélie who tries to help others,Elizabeth is merely a witness to all those things, aiming at finding a way to say goodbye to her failure in love. When she finally think herself prepared to say goodbye, the person who broke her heart is not there any more, and it's time to start a new relationship with Jude Law If you want to see something serious,I'm sorry, you may be disappointed. But if you just enjoy the atmosphere in a romantic movie, you will be satisfied. But it doesn't mean that it's a popcorn movie.Apart from the typical Kar Wai Wong style scenes, music, there's something to think over. You will think of something, think of your own love story in this story. The performances are wonderful.Rachel Weisz makes you into the mood the moment she walks into the bar.David Strathairn is wonderful.Natalie Portman makes you know that she is a real actress with great talent(maybe someone will be uncomfortable to her changes).Jude Law and Norah Jones together gives you a sense of warm, and they are really suitable in the roles of bar assistant or boss.Kar Wai Wong makes Faye Wong transform from an excellent singer to an excellent performer.Norah Jones's music is wonderful, and her performance is surprising to me,succeed in a good listener and witness The music, cinematography, etc are typical Kar Wai Wong style.Kar Wai Wong loves to put jazz in his movie, and Jones's vocal makes you exciting at the beginning of the movie.everything is magnified,in order to show the beauty hiding in the fine points. The light is a story teller in this movie, maybe weired but fascinating.Kar Wai Wong borrowed a piece of music from The Motorcycle Diaries, indicating that Elizabeth has managed to get rid of the failure in love. It may not be the best Kar Wai Wong movie, but it's enjoyable, and it's as sweet as blueberry pies, you will find it hard to resist
