He truly shines in this series. What a talent. Nobody else could have played his part so perfectly. These storylines are all so touching, and you find yourself in so many of the characters at different moments. I got swept up in it all. This was the first K-Drama series I've watched, and it's convinced me to check out other series after this. There were so many twists and turns... so much growth... and many unexpected moments of humor and realism. I didn't want this series to end! I just wanted to follow these characters and their families forever because of how lovely they all are. It really gets you invested and makes you believe it's all real. There's a lot of details and storylines - so, if you're looking to be entertained endlessly and touched emotionally, this is perfect for you. Settle in and enjoy!

The Curse

This show isn't made for everyone
4 December 2023
Not all characters or situations are meant to be liked or easily digested. If you're familiar with the director, you know what to expect. He won't spoon feed you simple scenarios or relatable actions. Those looking for a knee-slapper or fast-paced thriller won't find what they're looking for here. Those looking for a twisted, uneasy look at strange characters in a complex situation will feel at home. The pacing is slower and actually feels like realistic, real-time moments. Let yourself be uncomfortable and soak in the unexpected. It's a unique show in that it is what it is and won't try to be something else. It's purposefully that show that made you squirm.

Really Happy I Gave it a Chance
2 October 2023
I was almost swayed by the rating on here, but I'm really glad I gave it a shot. If you enjoy movies like Zodiac or Prisoners... this might be the movie for you. It's more about painting a picture and then moving through it, rather than getting right into the classic steps of solving a crime. I thoroughly enjoyed the look and pacing of this from beginning to end. It's filled with details and perspectives, all of which keep things moving throughout. Benicio's talent shines, and he is a thrill to watch. If you want to get enveloped in a story that seems familiar but is eerily not... definitely give it a go. If you want to be enthralled in CSI: Miami-esque suspense, this might not be for you.

Rhys Darby is an absolute treasure

I'm really enjoying every moment of this show! It's got story and a little bit of drama, interwoven with perfect comedic timing and silly moments. The characters are brilliant too. If you're a fan of Taika and Rhys... this show will be right up your alley.

I didn't want it to end!
19 August 2021
This show is so enjoyable, and Jean Smart is SUCH a presence that I'm not yet ready to let her go. I actually saw myself getting closer to the end of the season and dreading the end of the last episode. The humor is so witty and the characters balanced each other out so well - each episode was a joy to watch. They showed great juxtapositions between Deborah and Ava's life, and it was thrilling to see where their worlds collided. The storyline was captivating without being over the top... which I feel like is saying a lot nowadays. I'm going to recommend this to all my friends - it's a must-see!

Unsettling, in an incredible way

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey this show took me on. So much of it was unexpected. It felt real that way. It felt honest. I think some people might be turned off by this show due to how it really leans into the uncomfortable, and lets raw moments sit. It felt like a work of art.

The Mom is insufferable
23 April 2021
I can barely make it through an episode now that the Mom is more involved. She's so cringey, and just needs to tone it down across the board. Also, her taste is extremely questionable. I just want to see a house get renovated, not see someone trying on a "quirky" personality for an hour...

I really enjoyed it, but I absolutely hated the kid.

The son was the only hard thing to watch in this series. I really liked all the rest! He sucked and I found it almost impossible to root for his redemption. I found myself verbally wishing the opposite whenever he was on screen.

I wish I there was a kid's movie like this when I was a childo

I'm quite happy with who I've become, as a woman in my early thirties... BUT... I just know I could've reached some philosophical conclusions many years earlier if some of these simple notions were considered normal in the 90s. I'm excited to see what the next generation does with this enlightenment, and I'm glad it exists for them.
Let's assure younger generations that life is more than most people make it out to be.

An unexpected, fascinating treat

I wasn't sure what to expect from a show based around a game I've played maybe 3 or 4 times in my life... but this was all so well-done and kept me on the edge of my seat! Everything was thoughtful and deliberate. It grabbed my attention in episode one and didn't let go until the end. In addition to incredibly detailed sets and cinematography, the acting was truly top notch. It's a multifaceted treasure that outshines most of the series being released these days.
If you're feeling skeptical, just watch one episode. It's sure to please.

A Great Watch
6 September 2020
I really don't understand all the negative reactions to this movie. It really exceeded my expectations! And that's coming from someone who's been turned off by most of the Disney live action remakes. I found it surprisingly refreshing and enjoyable from start to finish.
The acting, cinematography, and visual effects were all impeccable, in my opinion. And the fight scenes were fun to watch! Seeing a role model like Mulan in the flesh is really impactful, and I wish I had a movie like this when I was little.

A visual treat
4 August 2020
I wasn't expecting this movie to be so gorgeously shot, and it really blew me away. I was assuming it'd look just like another one of the many period movies / series that have come along, but this was STUNNING. So crisp and deliberate. I was in awe the entire time.
