Great World of Sound (2007)
Entertaining movie that sticks with you after..
Very well done and entertaining film that shows the worst side of the music business (is there a good side?). The character who played Clarence did an amazing job and really carried the film. The film is about fly by night music producers and the salesmen they hire to swindle would be musicians out of their money. You are left feeling a little sick about the subject matter, as you know it goes on everyday. Not just in music - this structure can and is applied to many different types of businesses. It targets both the folks looking for a career on the business end and the ones looking to create a career in the business.
Obviously a low budget film, but it's shot pretty well and the casting was great, as mentioned "clarence" played by Kene Holliday, was standout. Hopefully this opens some doors for him, as he's a very entertaining actor. His co-star, Healy (martin) does a good job as well, however a tad on the stiff/boring side.
Lions for Lambs (2007)
I've never been a big fan of Cruise
Especially late, as he's gone completely nuts. However, he does a great job in this movie. Very similar to his role in a Few Good Men. Even ole' lefty Redford does a good job in keeping the movie going. Overall it's a decent flick and surprisingly balanced. Why it's not doing better is obvious, these type of monologue pieced together movie rarely do. Take the number of people who actually read the news paper or follow world events, multiply that by the cost of a ticket and you've got the box office it's got. The military stuff was a little on the weak side -- lacking a bit of realism, but that was just color to the story that was being looked at by both sides on the movie - redford and cruise's character.
Worth watching -- at the very least on DVD.
The Heartbreak Kid (2007)
Horrible.. simply horrible.
The first 15-20 minutes of the movie are decent. After that it just falls apart. I laughed maybe 3 times -- and those were more chuckles then laughs, all provided by Ben Stillers "Father". Ben Stiller hasn't been funny since Something About Mary and Meet the Fockers.
This movie is not just a waste of the price of a ticket, but time.
Hollywood for a creative town (supposedly...) hasn't had an original idea in a long time. Nothing but remakes (and poor remakes at that) or sequels.
Anyhow, this movie isn't even a DVD rental. Wait until it shows up on HBO and you're bored.
The Loop (2006)
Wow, Fox ruined this show....
The first season was great - good mix of the job and the brother and friends at home. it was actually a pretty funny show.
Now it shows up again and the brother and the two hot chicks are gone -- and the whole thing revolves around the airline company. Even the old man who runs the company has gone downhill - way too over the top, where before it was perfect.
That and no more Sarah Mason - one of the best looking girls in Hollywood.
This is what happens when you let some execs get their hands on a show. You can almost see the meeting "the old man is funny, lets focus on him, make him way over the top and make it all about the airline.. it'll be a nutty version of the office!" Anyhow, no hot chicks, no watch.
