Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Ad Astra Per Aspera (2023)
Expecto expectata
Other than the fact that this episode is fantastically directed, I am still going to give this episode a failing grade.
The story is too weak. It is blatantly obvious from the outset who is enforcing wrong laws here: The Federation. All we are going to see is a dramatic execution of a court case that will ensure that
everything will be put right.
Of course, discrimination is wrong. We have known that for much longer than today. To have to sit through that whole thing again in a fictional universe that exists centuries in the future is quite deplorable. Add to that the fact that Starfleet did not change any laws following this case, made it a complete let-down!
Finally, a note for all newbies to the Star Trek saga. Go watch "The next generation" and take that as a benchmark for all other series that have been made. This series dealt with philosophical issues that you can really think about for days to come!
The Courier (2020)
Good spymovie!
Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a phenomenal performance in "The Courier" as Greville Wynne, a British businessman who becomes a spy during the Cold War. His portrayal of the vulnerable yet brave protagonist is outstanding and really draws the audience in.
However, the film's excessive drama can feel overdone and unnecessary at times. While the tension builds slowly throughout the movie, some of the dialogue and scenes feel exaggerated and heavy-handed. Despite this, the film is still an engaging watch and Cumberbatch's performance alone makes it worth seeing.
I hope this sentence contains the 600th charachter so that this review will be published.
Shazam! (2019)
Fails on every account.
""Shazam!" may appear to be a typical superhero movie at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the titular superhero is just as bad as the villain. While he may possess incredible powers, Shazam's actions reveal that he is driven by a deep-seated sense of pride and selfishness.
The sin of pride or vainglory is one of the seven deadly sins and is characterized by an excessive sense of self-importance and a desire for attention and admiration. Shazam is guilty of this sin as he revels in his newfound powers, flaunts his superhero status, and seeks validation from others. His narcissism is particularly evident in the scenes where he performs stunts and poses for selfies, all to boost his own ego.
Moreover, Shazam is also guilty of the sin of sloth or acedia. This sin is characterized by a lack of care or concern for others and a general apathy towards life. Shazam's disregard for the safety and well-being of those around him is particularly concerning. He uses his powers to entertain himself, often putting others in harm's way, without a second thought.
Unfortunately, "Shazam!" fails to deliver any meaningful life lessons as the character development of the protagonist is lackluster. The movie does not explore the consequences of Shazam's actions or address the flaws in his character. It fails to provide any moral guidance, leaving the audience with a shallow and empty storyline.
In conclusion, "Shazam!" may have the trappings of a superhero movie, but its flawed protagonist and lack of meaningful life lessons make it fall short of expectations. While the action scenes and special effects may entertain, the lack of depth in the storyline and the character development of the protagonist leave much to be desired.
Get Out (2017)
Get outta here!
All those 8+ reviews. Don't be mislead. The movie is very bad. The plot isa obvious very early in the movie and nothing, really nothing suprised me. What a farce.
The whole story gets crazier and crazier. There was absolutely no reason to suspend disbelief and reengage into the story.
The only positive thing to mention is the ending. But I do not recommend watching this piece of crap to experience this single redeeming occurance.

Barbarian (2022)
Stupid movie! Really, really stupid!
How stupid can a character act?
Well, this movie tries to answer that very question. Let's consider a few:
1) Why did the guy, after having encoutered an hysterical roommate, not report back earlier? He would only be away for 30sec, but he went exploring way beyond the agreed upon area.
2) The 2nd guy that came into the house must have been stupider still. He did not even notice all the blood and the akward settings in the basement. He just went on continuing measuring the space.
3) Why did we need to get introduced to this second guy in the first place?
4) This savage women is way too strong. There is nothing in the movie that explains why this 'creature' should posses such great strength.
5) How did this creature and 'father' manage to survive al these years (like decades)?
The story is very, very unbelievable.
I have no problem suspending my disbelief, but this one takes the cake. I definitely would not recommend this movie to anyone. I occasionally reached for my phone while watching this piece of crap.
The Mission (1986)
Extremely overdone drama
My first review was rejected, probably because I uttered my emotions to blatantly. With this review, i'm trying again...
The movie was way too long, so in summary:
-Brother kills brother over a woman. Really?
-Brother seeks redemption by the Jesuits and redeems himself.
-Apparently Jesuits are great, Portugal is evil.
-Portugal takes over a village formerly take cared for by the Jesuits by force and kills women and children.
-The brother that was left, dies in the fight.
"If might is right, then love has no place in the world."
A real feel good movie!
Good luck with this one!
Repo Man (1984)
Worse worst worst
Worst in my language means sausage. Better eat sausage than watch this piece of crap. The beginning was inspiring an interesting, but it all fell flat in 20 minutes. I cannot relate to the score of this movie on IMDB.
I do not recommend this movie!
Not in the slightest bit.
Total waste of time.
Spotlight (2015)
Clap... clap... clap... clap...
All I have to do here is stating the obvious:
A lot of work has been done to get the truth out. But after all that hard work nothing really changed at all. Therefore I give this movie a very slow applause. Good show, but no redemption.
Opus of an Angel (2017)
A well-told story!
Pros:
+Story is well-told.
+Gives food for thought and makes you think about the meaning of life.
+The background story is given away very gradually.
Cons:
+Although the child actress really is blind, she was not very convincing as an actress.
+The camerawork was subpar. Very shaky!
+There is only one way to interpret the story.
+Contrived.
All in all:
Because the story is told in a very good way, I was not at all distracted by the negatives of the movie.
Better Call Saul: Point and Shoot (2022)
Masterminds suddenly became stupid
This is my third written review of an episode of this series.
The only satisfaction this episode has brought me is the death of Lalo (read my previous reviews), it should have happened 6 episodes earlier. Other than that, I just watched how stupid everyone reacts to Kim's failed attempt to kill Gus Fringe. What a disappointment!
We all know after all the episodes we've seen that Mike is the smartest person in the entire series. Lalo may be just as smart. He has to be, because HE STILL LIVES! Mike, of all people, fails to see that Kim's arrival is a distraction. He's falling for it with open eyes.
Fortunately, Gus understands the situation and takes immediate action. Unfortunately, his bodyguards let him down and he comes face to face with Lalo. How this ends is of course easy to predict, but go see this, because this scene is beautiful.
I don't understand why a lot of people give this episode a 10. I would normally give this episode a 7, but all these nonsensical 10's need to be counterbalanced as far as I'm concerned.
I'm very much looking forward to the final episodes and I personally think, if I'm keeping a close eye on the trend, that Kim won't survive. We'll see...
The Clapper (2017)
Entertaining but contrived
I liked the premise.
Only the girl in this movie was very very one-dimensional. She got to know the main character, got in love and after losing her job just closed the door, without trying to figure out what was the cause. Just like that! I mean WHAT? You are in love and you just give up?
I cannot relate to that.
It was all a big show for nothing.
Very unrealistic.
Watch the movie 'punch drunk love' instead. They got the story perfectly right.
Hostiles (2017)
Last part of this movie ruined it for me
Pretty good movie. Character development, good acting, beautiful cinematography, all be it a bit cliché.
Only the last 15 minutes of the movie was a total letdown.
After all the hardships and sorrow I cannot relate as to why this movie ended the way it did. I was so disappointed...
I watched a seven and then all of a sudden it turned into a two. Eventually, instead of rating this movie as a 4 I changed it to a 5.
Watch this movie, but be aware. The ending is a total letdown, to say the least.
Out of the Furnace (2013)
My 2 cents
The actors did well! That's 4 points. The rest is rather disappointing.
My keywords:
- unengaging / unempathetic
- lackluster
- slow
- unconvincing
- contrived / artificial.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Lalo does it again :-(
Don't get me wrong. I love this show. However, when an episode makes a sudden u-turn, I have to write about it.
The same goes for the last episode of the previous season ('Something Unforgivable'). This episode also got a separate review by me, because I was very disappointed.
And now, after this episode my love for this show is forever tainted by the acts and luck of the character called 'Lalo'.
This character is purely created to be the ultimate antagonist. He drives and steals the show. Where is Saul Goodman? The man this show is all about? We don't see him doing new surprising things anymore. Instead, we are watching a rerun of a revenge plot that has been done before and cannot be surpassed by a longshot.
I will make a prediction right here, right now: A prequel show will be made about Lalo. I give this prediction a probability of 90%.
In the last episode of the fifth series he somehow magically survives an assassination where EVERYBODY dies except him, stages his own death successfully and now in these first episodes of the last season he finds out all the intricacies that preceded the building of the perfectly hidden meth-lab of mr. Fring. An operation that was carried out with the utmost caution and at a very high cost!
Are there any explanations as to how he found this out precisely? No. Only leads..., leads and stories. Nothing substantial. He talked to the wife and to this 'other person' who unfortunately was unable to kill this basterd, despite having had extensive opportunities to do so. How the *bleep* did he pull that one off??
And what about the broken ribs?? This is very painful and takes weeks to heal, but do you see him him struggling with that afterward? No! Not at all! Gone credibility.
I bet the last part of this season will revolve mostly around Lalo, because unfortunately it has been doing that and it will do so till the very end.
What a letdown... :-(
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Patrick Steward letdown
I honestly thought Patrick Steward was a man of taste, honor and dignity.
I am a great fan of star trek: tng and this was such a let down, I don't even know where to begin.
So, I'll just keep it short and in a form of a warning:
If you hold Patrick Steward in high esteem, don't watch this show.
Do the Right Thing (1989)
Sigh...
To realize this was aired in 1989 makes me more sick than I already was after watching the end of this movie. Imagine how this kind of framing impacted the generations after the 90's.
This movie should be censored purely because it instigates voilent thought against the black community.
The love vs hate rant was inspiring (love wins), but besides that, there is nothing redeeming shown on how being part of a black community is creating a prosperous and loving society.
I rest my case.
Two Distant Strangers (2020)
How?
Simple story:
White man bad.
Black man innocent.
White man shoots black man.
White man does not understand?
Black man explains very clearly.
White man understands and still shoots black man.
White man bad.
Luizenmoeder - De film (2021)
Nice to enjoy a pc free evening
No political correctness. A breath of fresh air.
Also contains am important message to all the sheeple out there.
Watch and enjoy!
Time (2021)
Good acting, excruciating story.
As the title says: the acting got me through these three episodes.
Storywise: nobody wins, everybody loses.
There is no redeeming quality whatsoever. The suggestion is made that being a 'good person' makes everything okay, eventually, but I am not buying it.
If all the sadness in the world is represented by the sea, this is but a sip.
If there is a second season, I won't be watching.
Waking Life (2001)
For the existentialists out there.
Wonderful treatise on BEING.
There is nothing like this out there.
Except perhaps the movie: 'Dinner with Andre'.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Good idea, bad execution
First time I saw this movie I was very positive. However, years after, I watched it again and the impact was sub par.
If there are infinite universes then the there must be one that is adequate. The protagonist failed to find one, in my opinion.
This power he has, was a gem to exploit. This movie failed to do so.
I even remember having seen part 2 and being very, very disappointed. So my advice is: don't bother.
Grimsby (2016)
This is what decadence looks like.
Terrible story, terrible characters and terrible jokes.
Especially the jokes are cringeworthy.
If this movie is generally considered as entertaining, I am now certain that if aliens visit our planet we would be eradicated without even bothering consulting the galactic federation.
The reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the algorithm.
Don't Breathe (2016)
So much promise!!!
Imagine this:
Great introduction.
Backstories protagonists to certain extent.
Tension build-up.
Setting up stakes.
Another good tension build-up.
Again (...) suspension of disbelief.
Terrific believable thrills.
Suspension of disbelief.
Again (...) Suspension of disbelief.
Believable thrills...
Suspension of disbelief x 4.
Thrills..
Suspension of disbelief x 5.
At this moment I was ready to smash the tv out of the window, but my girlfriend persuaded me to suspend (:-D) that impulse.
Imagine a film that ignores all rules of logic just to force a certain story. This is such a film. Totally wasted!
Bad movie!
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
Great family movie
Good entertainment. Especially when you're feeling down. This movie is all about positivity and about how good intentions do not always come across as such.
Go see this with the whole family and enjoy the show!
The Watch (2020)
I almost cried for this abomination.
Every suggestion that this is tied to Terry Pratchett is worth a tear.
I hope the director and writer of this despicable series get what they deserve!
Avoid like the plague!
