Civil War (2024)
4/10
I'm not too sure...
8 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Let's start with the positives. The cinematography is stunning. Who knew that a forrest fire can be so mesmerisingly beautiful?

There is a story, a few war photographers want to go to Washington to interview the president. The Americans love their road trips and this is just another roadtrip. No story? Did you watch the Walking Dead? A group of people going somewhere.

Also, it is for sure thought-provoking. What kind of person wants to become a war photographer? An emotionally detached someone who would do anything for the prefect shot?

What went wrong for me is the casting of Jessie and the whole character of Jessie. I thought she was 16. And of course, she's basically the reason why 4 people died.

We don't know much about this war going on, I would have loved to get some more shots on how people actually live through these times in today's America. Taking photos of a helicopter in the parking lot of JCPenneys, or showing their car on the road made the movie feel empty. I didn't see why Kirsten Dunst was so great, she had hardly anything to work with.

Basically, this movie is a missed opportunity, could have been great, but it's not.

My Home My Destiny (2019–2021)

I refuse to watch season 2
29 March 2024
My home, my destiny is a wonderful Turkish series, beautifully shot, beautifully acted but looks like it has what I call the "turkish series curse". The writers apparently ruined Medhi's character completely in the second season, and this is why I stop at episode 12. For me the story concluded, Zeynep and Medhi found each other and I want to think they will be able to overcome all the obstacles and all their differences with the love they have for each other.

I read the plot of the following episodes, and no. I am not interested. I don't want to see Zeynep with another man and frankly I was really upset reading other reviews about what they did to Medhi. Shame to ruin this beautiful story.

Toxic
13 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love Turkish cinema, I watched a lot of series to the point that now I recognise buildings from other series.

Asla Vazgecmem is probanly one of the most toxic stories I have seen so far. Everyone in this series has some sort of mental defect or personality disorder.

Nur is an absolute doormat, co-dependent mazochist. Nobody with a morsel of self-esteem would carry on living in that horror house. She wanted to go to school at the beginning, I wonder what will happen to that. Probably nothing. She accepts living there as the nanny when they got married??

Yigit is even worse. If you love someone you don't subject them to this cruel treatment. She saved his son, then he blamed her for losing their child, instead of being there to console her? He's a toxic brute and I don't even understand why they all kept lying to Iclal. Basically, Iclal, the woman who got divorced from and didn't love at all was more important to him than the woman he claimed to love.

I gave it 3 stars because the aunt and Iclal are so despicable, they are really good actresses, they make me hate them. The rest is a pile of toxic waste with annoying people. I'm half way through but I don't think I will finish it. There are far more superior Turkish series to watch.

Do yourself a favour and read the book, then watch the movie, then the series
28 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Watch the original movie first, then start watching this Netflix series. I am sure many people were really excited for it, but it is a massive flop. And yes, because of the female lead. She was a miscast.

The movie and the series are based on the books, and no, Emma is not an Indian girl. In the 80s, and Indian girl and a posh boy, highly unlikely that any of them would have even considered being friends.

Ambika Mod was not the right person to play Emma. She looks permanently angry, like she doesn't want to be there, the way she acts, there's no warmth, you can't see their connection with Dexter. Her acting in this series makes the whole story unbelievable, which is a shame as I love this story, I have the book, I have the movie.

Someone asked, why did they kill Emma? Because that's life, bad things happen, but because of Emma's influence, Dexter is able to move on after a while. You can't see this in the series which is ironic for 14 episodes.

Most reviewers doesn't like this series because there is absolutely no chemistry between the two leads, not because Ambika Mod is unattractive. Not every role is for everyone.

Argylle (2024)

I'm glad I went to see it in the cinema
20 February 2024
I love Sam Rockwell, He is so underrated, I haven't one movie of his I didn't like, and Argylle is not exception. I loved his on-screen chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard.

The movie itself is some silly fun, very very over the top scenes, cliches after cliches, twists after twists, but somehow it works. The action scenes are enjoyable too. Alfie, the cat, I did wonder a few time if he was real, because it never really looked real, more like a cgi, nevertheless, he's the star of one of the funniest moments in the movie.

I am hoping there will be a next chapter, this is not something I say very often, as I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Feels like the casting wasn't the best
7 December 2023
After reading the book, I was waiting to see the series. Nikki Rodriguez as Jackie is probably an okay choice, but not with Noah. He is supposed to be 17/18, not 25. He looks way too old to be in high school and Nikki looks 16, I don't think they have chemistry at all. She doesn't have any sparks with Alex either.

Will is supposed to be I think 21. Here he looks like 30, and his fiance looks old to be 21 too.

Okay, after finishing the whole thing, most of the actors were a miscast, they just don't go well with each other. I kept thinking "was she a diversity cast, was he a diversity cast?" Actors make or break a story and it feels like with different people this series would/could have been more enjoyable and believable.

I'm not sure what the creators' intention was
6 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I gave it 5* for the beautiful scenes but I really didn't understand what they were thinking. Did they want to show the complexities of an interracial relationship? Did they want to show how Norwegians are inflexible and stuck in the past?

Now, about the couple. Jashan is not a victim here, he's a victim of his own ego.

Thea makes quite a few mistakes, starting by not telling her mother about her Indian fiance, that could have prepared her better. She's got the more difficult part, she needs to balance her family's needs, their shared history, their traditions with the father they lost recently and of course Jashan's needs too.

Jashan arrives, he makes comments about everything, judgemental ones, like about the flags on the tree. He thinks him cooking is such a great thing, but when you are a stranger in a family, you don't do that. You keep quiet and appreciative. He knows that christmas is very important for Thea and her family, so cooking curry, especially a very spicy one is kind of ignorant. Most Indian people know that their spicy is hell for others.

Jashan accuses Thea not having his back. She had his back, She was trying to make sure he would enjoy the experience, she didn't force him to ski with others, she got him spices during the dinner etc.

He was obnoxiously loud at the church and despite of her asking him to be quiet, he didn't listen. He was shouting outside (that's more about Norwegian building standards though) Then his speech at the end about chirstmas, stupid costumes, and that the answer to everything is "it's christmas" These are Norwegian traditions. He and all his Indian family would have disliked Thea if she kept on commenting and making judgements about Diwali.

Maybe the conclusion is, if you marry someone, make sure you are able to have difficult conversations before you say yes?

The movie itself is 5*, you can watch it once but it's forgettable.

Don't waste your time with season 4
24 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am going to repaet what everyone else already said in their reviews. Season four is bad. As everyone else, I loved the first two seasons, the third one was alright too but season 4 is kind of unwatchable now. The characters are unwatchable and they changed for the worse. They are all annoying even the side characters like Abby.

The new school? Some woke hellish nightmare with the weirdest characters.

Jean, very smart woman who knows how to handle whatever life throws at her, suddenly is a mess, who can't handle a baby and it doesn't occur to her to ask some help. Not really believable.

Otis, intelligent, funny in a nerdy way, now his obsession is to open a free sex clinique at a weird school and to take down the girl who is actually confident enough while Otis would need counselling himself.

Eric, absolutely annoying, way too dramatic. I can't remember him being this insufferable.

Adam, the school bully, suddenly a mumbling mess.

After 2 episodes, I just can't stand any of them anymore. I won't be finishing the season and definitely not interested in a season 5.

The last 20 minutes
24 July 2023
I am not really sure how many stars I should give to this movie. As everyone else I was also waiting for a new Nolan movie and the Manhattan project is an interesting topic too. I was tired when I went to the cinema but normally that's not a problem. I still see the film too. This time I fell asleep and I only woke up for the last 20 Minutes. It looked pretentious and boring too, Murphy was never my favourite actor and this film didn't help either, what I saw.

I also realised why I don't normally like Nolan's works apart from Inception. The editing is not artistic, not the greatest cinema, just annoying simply.

I might watch the whole movie at some point but probably not, unless I have trouble falling asleep.

A little bit of French cinema feeling here
2 May 2023
This is why I have a netflix account, so I can find gems like this movie. I liked the simplicity and the natural feel of Ali and Leyla's journey together.

It's definitely not an action packed film, and not your typical Turkish film, it has some French noir feel for me. I always loved this kind of movies, like for example Before Sunrise.

Nothing but two strangers meet, talk and discovers themselves.

The acting was superb, absolutely believable, Turkiye, the background, looks amazing, kind of make want to travel back and discover more. The ending was sufficient as you don't need to tie up every plot lines, you can leave something for the imagination. That was one big bonus point for me, that's why I gave it an 8.

4 stars for the colours
1 May 2023
I was curious to watch this series partly as it is rare to see and overweight lead character, partly as I am going to visit Mexico City and Xocimilco where she lives is on the list. But I was very wrong.

Mich is incredibly annoying and self-absorbed and shallow. I ended up simply wanting to slap her. The other characters, her two friends, her cousin seem very one dimensional. You get glimpses of some personality from her cousin but overall she stays one dimensional.

Mich's love triangle is simply unbelievable. The "invisible" girl suddenly becomes everyone's love object? Highly unlikely.

Storyline didn't really exist, character development didn't exist, maybe with Dani, acting was bad, the only redeeming thing is the colourful shots of Mexico City.

Watch if you have nothing else to do, or you're 16, otherwise don't waste your time.

The Marked Heart (2022– )

Second season went downhill very quick
26 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the first season, very serious topic, made you think what you would do for your loved ones. But the second season...it's absolutely nonsense.

Simon and Camila are hypocrites. Someone kills his wife? Evil people need to pay, he does everything to bring down the organisation. Somehow this all changes when her daughter needs a new heart. Suddenly, he is considering paying for them, despite knowing that would be the end of another innocent life.

And Camila? Goes along with it? Not to mentions, if you plan to hide, you don't start taking photos and exibit them even under a different name.

Also, how was she found in Istanbul? It is a massive megacity. Samantha has a therapist, but they can't afford to pay rent? I could go on and on about the stupidity in every episode.

Huge disappointment.

Great travel movie
23 April 2023
Rachel Leigh Cook can't act. The rest of the cast neither. The actual story was quite thin and the two main character had zero chemistry but somehow it is still a charming little film. In a grey, rainy afternoon this movie is perfect to bring some colour in your life. And I suspect it was made by a travel agency, as it makes me want to visit Vietnam.

I gave it 6 star because of the scenery and the cultural aspects that were shown. I loved the colours.

As a rom-com, meh, nothing special, although the male lead looks quite handsome indeed but I couldn't see any love happening, I couldn't see the female lead changing, but it probably comes with the lack of the acting skills from the whole cast.

Overall, it is still an okay movie, nice 90 minutes, but not something I'd watch again.

I protect you, we are just protecting you, you protect me...
28 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I stopped watching it at season 3 episode 1. I couldn't take more. The series started out as great, I love lawyer dramas, especially with some steamy sex scenes, nice looking people. I am not saying the quality was declining, no, there were twists and turns all the way. I just can't stand these people. As the storyline progresses we can see how self-absorbed all of them are. They don't care about each other, even if they overuse the word protect. You could actually do a drinking game, you would get drunk by the end of each episode as they keep saying they protect each other.

They don't in reality. The whole story is becoming more and more unrealistic because of the stupid decisions they make all along.

Wes Gibbins, and his relation to Analise, is the downfall of all of them. Wes is incredibly annoying, his obsession with Rebecca, the reason wasn't really clear, caused the first murder we can see. He dragged the whole group down with himself with the help of Analise Keeting. If she had really cared about them, she could have just stopped working with them, letting them be part of her personal hell more and more.

Viola Davis is a great actress, she made me hate her character, to the point that I can't watch it anymore.

It started great...
23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've become addicted to Turkish dramas recently and this one was recommended by many people. It started out great. I loved the humour, the chemistry between Alcin and Baris is insane and they have cute moments. The aunt Neriman, with Mine, is the funniest character, if we decide to ignore how selfish she is in reality.

But 69 episodes were way too long. This series should have been stopped at around 20. It became one of the most frustrating series I have watched. With Defne being very very irrational. Does she have insecurities? Sure. So does everyone else. It's not an excuse to hurt your man.

It was actually painful to watch after the episode where they finally spend a few days together and she just leaves leaving a one sentence note for Omer. How does she not realise how bad that was? And always blaming the others, when it was all her choice.

The last 15 episodes I just clicked through as it was frustrating and painful at the same time. There are better series out there.

It was cute
1 June 2022
I expected worse. Visuals were stunning, the storyline was interesting, made me want to know how it ends despite of one main thing that irks me everytime when I see it on screen now as it screams "woke".

Somehow the film felt superficial, they crammed too much in too little time and as much as I love Mads Mikkelsen as an actor, he didn't seem to fit the role as much as Johnny Depp did. He was not bad, but a little bit "soft" for a villain.

Some good merch opportunity there.

After 10 minutes I had to leave
25 May 2022
At first, I was thinking, maybe I am just too old for this. Maybe this is funny for the 16-22 year olds, but after 5 minutes I said, nah. This is not age related dislike from my side.

This movie is just simply bad, and not funny, reeks of desperation, of trying to be cool and edgy maybe? I don't really understand.

This "thing", whatever this is should have not got a green light from any production companies. It should have been erased.

The only good thing is that now I have a 1* movie to compare all the others I watch and review.

Luckily I din't pay for it.
24 May 2022
4 stars as I like how Jared Leto looks in this movie, I like his light blue eyes, and some of the action scenes looked good and it says a lot about the depth of the movie if these were the most enjoyable parts.

Otherwise, I just couldn't focus, the movie felt quite disjointed, the story was meh, nothing original.

One of my criteria what a good movie is, if I start to "care" about the characters. Here? Nah.

Overall it is a boring one that lacks depth, lacks a good story, lacks good actors, lacks originality. It shouldn't have been made.

The amount of crying!!!!!
16 May 2022
Watching this in 2022 and it is impossible to watch.

The religious nutters, the crazies, all the crying in every episodes.... It must have been very exhausting to play any characters as the main thing they do is either shout or cry.

I used to love telenovellas but this is one of the worst ones.

I was happy when it was over
9 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I am on of those people who went to see this because of Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver. I regret paying £5.99 for this, I'm not sure what I saw.

I gave 3 star for some artsy elements, otherwise it was boring, the songs were meh, the story was basically about two celebs meet, the man gets jealous of the woman's success, and she dies. Their kid is a miracle apparently.

I honestly didn't understand the point of this movie. It wasn't entertaining, wasn't uplifting nor inspiring, wasn't thought-provoking.

I don't know what it was. Quite a few people walked out, I was contemplating it, I just didn't want to go home too early.

I thought it was a new film!
20 March 2021
I admit when I saw the trailers, I got excited that a new movie is coming out. I didn't realize it was the 2017 one re-made longer. But about 30 minutes into the movie, I was like I had seen this one before, what's going on. I think Hollywood is in big trouble if they redo a movie after 3 years. It's 4 hours long, I watched it on a lesser-known website, so I thought maybe it's leaked before the final cut. I mean 4 hours?! The soundtrack is so out of the place. Some scenes does not make any sense. The slow-mo scenes are kinda annoying too. The villains are not scary at all. What about showing more of their backstory too? I still don't understand what they were on about. I watched it in three sittings, it was alright like a mini series. It is not bad, but definitely not a 10 for me.

Now I know what they meant about the kid...
14 March 2021
The strain is interesting and quite gruesome sometimes but kinda boring at the same time. There are a few things in it that absolutely don't make any sense. The characters do some incredibly stupid things, I mean like they don't even think. And the kid. I am at season 2 episode 8 and I just want to slap him and push him, go if you want to die so badly. No children would be this obnoxious and unable to comprehend what death means at that age. Although his mother is annoying as hell too. I guess it stays in the family. By now the only likeable character is Vasily Fet. Probably I'm not going to watch this too much longer.

Meh, worse than the second one
24 February 2021
I loved the first movie, Lara Jean and Peter were so cute together but the second movie ruined the most important scene from the first one. I'm not sure why people saying Peter wants to force her to go to Stanford too. Obviously everyone would want their SO to go to the same school and it's okay to be disappointed about it. The third movie, the plot could have been more interesting but it felt like it was desperately trying to be cool and fresh and edgy but it was a meh, I actually just skipped a few scenes. Although I'm older, so I guess it will appeal to the younger audience. This movie is okay to watch on a Sunday afternoon, it will sure make you feel good but it's nothing extra. I wish they stopped after the first one.

For me it's the case of "it's so bad, it's actually good" In a weird way, I can't stop watching it, these people are growing on me. I guess the makers did a good job getting me hooked despite of my original "what the heck?" impression.
