Home Town (2016)
Adorable couple, quality work
I have seen a few reviews on here that said negative things about this show or about the hosts and I want to address a few that are not based on opinion, because that varies by person and isn't something you can disprove or prove. One person claimed that the show never has people of color, but I personally have seen many African American couples, mixed couples, Hispanic, single moms, bachelors as well as gay and lesbian clients. So claiming that they are in the 'all white' part of Mississippi is disingenuous and trying to create a problem that doesn't exist just so you have something to complain about. And throwing the race card at a couple who seems to be beyond accepting of others is just a trashy move. Another person commented that the design is not up to the same standards as Joanna Gaines. I'm curious when Joanna was on the show. If she was a part of the show I guess I missed it. But if she wasn't on the show I guess her design ideas don't have anything to do with this show and if you prefer her designs you should be watching her show. The same person complained that Erin doesn't even dress herself well so that might be why she doesn't decorate the homes as well as Joanna Gaines does. I have watched both shows and it is apparent to me that Joanna dresses nicely because she has absolutely nothing to do with the construction or demolition of the homes. Erin, on the other hand, is there working side by side with her husband and their crew demoing the homes as well as occasionally helping out with some of the construction too. So, why on earth would she want to dress up in matching clothes while she's in a construction setting? That was almost the most ridiculous complaint I read about the show, but then I saw another review that said Ben always puts his arms around Erin and it's gross because his armpits are sweaty. Seriously. That was the cause for a person to give the show one star? They obviously live in a very sterile environment where no one sweats or has any other normal bodily functions. Must be nice. Or weird.
So, now that I have complained about a few of the complainers here I will give my review of Home Town. Ben and Erin are cute together, you can see how much they love each other. You can also see how much they love their community. The way they refurbish their clients homes keeping the architectural integrity of the home while making them more modern where they need to be is amazing! But also, the way they find ways to personalize each home to the owner is one of the kindest things they do! Ben is a very talented woodworker and Erin does a wonderful job of making the houses into a home for their clients. I am glad to see that the vast majority of the people who have reviewed this show agree with me about the important things; the overall quality of the show, the enjoyment in seeing Ben and Erin host the show and the value they bring to the properties they rehab!

What a waste
Dressed in heels and tight jeans this woman guts historic homes and throws tile everywhere but manages to squeeze some brass in between to make the homes gaudy enough to make you think Tammy Lee Baker's makeup artist was the designer. It is possible to make an older home open concept or even partially open without destroying the architectural integrity of the property. Many other designers do it! I realize this is scripted, so I don't blame the host, but the director or production team needs to stop having her pretend to be assisting with the actual construction. If she does know what she's doing she is bad at doing it on camera. I was the lone female on many commercial and residential construction sites and I can tell you that OSHA would have a fit if they saw some of the clothes she's wearing while welding, running equipment or even swinging a hammer! It's just not believable. Overall, cheap looking design, unbelievable host, renovation show rather than the restoration it claims to be and just an overall waste. It's a shame because it would be nice to see someone actually restore neglected properties!
