Yeonmo (2021)
Unexpectedly good
I approached this drama with fear of it being too melodramatic. And it is melodramatic, and there are the typical clichés of naked torsos and "unexpected" embraces, but it remains interesting until the end. Besides, there's a couple of support characters whose arc is unexpectedly good, like villain inspector Jung Seok-jo, and the main actress is very, very good.
Something I did not like: this drama's penchant for killing children. I could have done without it. But, all in all, very entertaining if a little bit sad at times.
Gaet-na-eul cha-cha-cha (2021)
Much ado and then... nothing.
This drama revolves around the romance of the main couple and it was very disappointing. Every obstacle: city girl vs. Small town man, remorseful hero, hero not cultivated enough for the heroine... go from weak to absurdly solved, rashly solved or plainly forgotten.
The subplots have no better luck. Sadly, the adorable people from Gonjin are not the neighbours in "Reply 1988": It takes some talent to turn an ensemble cast amusing. The singer turned coffee owner, who had the story with the most potential is the one whose story is the most underdeveloped... Silly, silly drama that not even Kim Seon-ho´s charming smile can save.
The Silent Sea (2021)
Interesting
Every comment I read about this series focuses in the lack of science knowledge in the script. Well, since when is it important in a sci-fi movie? We all know there's no such thing as telekinesis and that there's no way to build a litghtsaber or to clone a person, but I'm sure all these critics love Star Wars... I really don't understand why scientific coherence is suddenly so important.
That said, I think both the story and the acting were very good. The pace was correct to build the mood. I found it very entertaining and mostly well done. (But not always: the way they faked walking in zero gravity was very lame) The only bad thing, in my opinion, is that I think they changed the ending. The characters knew what they could expect and what they wanted to do, and it would have been more logical to end the series that way instead of the "deus ex machine" solution they adopted. It was very disappointing.
Phantom Thread (2017)
Absurd
It was mesmerizing, interesting and beautiful... then it started going off course... And then it got completely lost. Very disappointing. Had I know, I wouldn't have seen it.
Cinderella (2021)
It's a funny movie. No one will get an Oscar for it but, who cares?
I can't understand people that had such high expectations for this movie as to write six or seven paragraphs explaining why it should be burnt. It's a tale. A fairytale, known by everyone, and it's fun. Was it necessary? No. But not every movie needs to be The Godfather or aim to change your life forever. It's fun, most everybody sings very well, and the well known songs are great. Watch it with your children or if you're under the weather Popcorn is allowed.
Good Morning-Call: Guddo môningu kôru (2016)
Dangerous show
Seeing a human spineless, brainless girl with no pride choose a boy that treats her like a doormat is painful, to say the least. She puts up with him, his attitude and his insults because she knows that, deep down, he loves her. It is only that he is "reserved", you know?
This story should have remained a manga. We are in the 21th century. Time to get rid of shows like this that may make young girls think that this guy's behaviour is normal in someone who loves you.
Kkotboda namja (2009)
I had to force myself to watch the first episodes
This script is a mess and the acting is awful. The infamous F4 group of bullies is actually a group of three misunderstood saints plus someone who happens to be there. On the bright side, Gun Jun-pyo's infatuation is the funniest and most tender I've seen recently. Besides, I've learned a few interesting facts:
1. You can spy someone from an orange Ferrari. Nobody notices you.
2. Private Korean schools are the wild, wild West. The Geneva Convention is a joke for those students... And there are no teachers.
3. It seems the worst haircut ever can turn a (handsome) guy into a fairytale prince. Or it may be the ridiculous riding costume full of gold buttons.
4. Don't worry: the evil (evil, evil) villain will try to ruin your life until she's not in the mood to do it anymore. So much for perseverance.
5. If you are a heir, you are born with the knowledge to manage your empire. No need to study. (As if you could, between the burnt bikes and the murderous schoolmates!)
6. Again... that hair... Sorry to mention it again. I thought I wouldn't have to see it again after my mother dropped it in the 80's...
7. ...And the dandy style sported by this 20 year old guy...You're already driving "the" orange Ferrari, boy. No need to announce the world you have money.
8. No need to move your arms when you pretend to play the violin, the armonica or any instrument, for that matter. What's the point? Everybody knows it's playback.
9. And, just in case you're invited to one of these rich guys parties, you need to learn the valse but giving giant steps... fun, eh?
Geomsaekeoreul Ibryeokhaseyo: WWW (2019)
The main couple gave me a headache.
Workaholic woman finds herself a tall, strong, kind, smart, gorgeous younger man who adores her and she tells him she sees him as one of the many fishes in her tank only. The problem, you know, is that she is too busy acting as a guardian angel for the korean population, since web portal managers need to be there round the clock to protect people against evil corporations and even the government. In orden to live such sad, stressing life, she needs lots of booze. It's not sordid... but almost.
I don't understand why he puts up with her, if not because the boy is used to be abandoned by the important women in his life.
P. S: Turn off the lights during the day. That might save you more than 7 million dollar a year. If you've watched the show, you know what I mean.
Eung-dab-ha-ra 1988 (2015)
Unbelievable.
Oh, my! Although every episode needs furious editing (they are way too long), this is a masterpiece. By episode 17, I thought it was outstanding, the way it portrays friendship. And when I didn't think the writers could make it up to me for the wait regarding the romance, they kicked me in the stomach in episode 18 with one of the best written twist plot I've ever seen. Amazing.
O mai Bineoseu (2015)
Disappointing
This drama loses steam as it progresses. The tricks to keep it interesting are too melodramatic. There are many holes in the plot and a fatal flaw: the hero is so stern and cold with the girl that I didn't like the romance. ...boring.
Roboti Aniya (2017)
Not a masterpiece but still...
...I keep a special spot in my heart for heroes that live in dispair because they love someone against their best judgement...
And, also, I discovered this actor in this drama. He's amazing. One of the best I've seen so far.
Watch this series if you're in the mood for a tale-like story with a beautiful romance.
Seutateueob (2020)
Look out for the supporting cast.
I still don't know if the creators of this drama knew what they were doing of if this is the miscalculation of the year. This show has the most interesting love triangle: An immature, mostly inexpressive software engineer, Nam Do-san, versus the more mature (but not much older) and sophisticated, generous yet apparently cold Ji-pyenong... a modern Cyrano de Bergerac who's a genius and an idiot and who's stolen the hearts of the viewers all the way from Seoul to Los Angeles. Did the writer, director and producers know that he would provoke such an uproar in social media? Did they guess this "Ji-pyeong effect"? I think that Kim Seon-Ho just stole the show from under their noses and Nam Joo hyuk, who was simply adorable in Weightlifting Fairy, looks in comparison like a shadow of himself. I've been following Kim Seon-ho's career for a while and am happy that he has been finally (re)discovered. If you allow me the childish pun, it was about time he stopped being a mere "startup" to shine to his full potential.
Bimil (2013)
WoW!
Just wow! I find fascinating how this show portrays the slow descent of a "good" man into the "dark side" Little by little, the young prosecutor falls prey of his ambition while the lazy, resentful "chaebol" finds his way back to peace... Amazing.
There are loopholes and loose threads but still, this story is a valiant study of human nature. It's addictive and passionate and I gladly overlooked its numerous flaws yo enjoy the ride.
As for the actors, there are few actors in the world so talented and magnetic as Ji Sung. Kudos for his performance in this show. His talent males up for the wailing, overbearing female lead. (I think she's a good actress but here she's just... todo much)
If you are in the mood for an intense and provoking love story, don't miss this drama.
Sesang Eodiedo Eobneun Chakhan Namja (2012)
I wish I could unsee this show. Give me my time back!!!
There's a special spot in hell for writers who spoil a good premise like this. As if that weren't enough, the ending is worst than an open ending: After enduring pleas, confessions and betrials by the dozen you "are told" what happened to the characters and find them years later in a still open situation... It's like watching a piece of "nothing", if such a thing exists. Don't bother with this show.
The King 2 Hearts (2012)
Not so good.
The first episodes of this drama are ok if you ignore the occasional nonsense. Then, half way through it, you have to put up with old fashioned script tricks to keep on watching... (It's a bad omen when you think about all the episodes still remaining ) The last part of the drama, you just keep the fast forward key pressed most of the time to avoid the embarrassment.
In the end, I can only think: thank God Korea is a republic.
That said, except for the "pseudo americans" and the female lead, the acting is pretty amazing.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
Outstanding
One of the best developed romances I have ever watched. (There is only three or four) Such well handled story: From the second episode until the end I was, as everytime I like a show so much, anxiously hoping they could keep the high level until the end. And they didn't disappoint.
I even liked the set of ducklings that would follow their Captain to hell and back. They could have been annoying, but I found myself liking them almost as much as the main characters.
And who wouldn't follow Captain Ri anywere? I fell in love with his personality in the second episode, swooned with the final scene of the fourth and cried for him until the final one. The fact that such outstanding personality had the body and face of Hyun Bin didn't hurt.
Although it drags a little in the middle, it's hard for us, high-standards-romantics, find a quality show like this, that is original, mostly logic, has a grater-than-life hero and love story, and is not cheesy. If you are the kind of romantic that has sworn off Hallmark movies, this one is for you.
Kill It (2019)
Raw and cruel. But oddly satisfying
This is not for the faint of heart. I thought It was the typical romance between a policewoman and a killer (yes, yes, typical), but It's mostly a crime drama where the love story adds to the whole as much as the other subplots and affects the final result in the impression It leaves. And what an impression...
Halfway through the drama I guessed the end, but kept watching because It was very interesting. I appreciate that they didn't sugarcoat things, but now I need like a couple Marx's brothers films to laugh like a fool before I venture again in dramaland.
Sikago Tajagi (2017)
Such a Masterpiece
The story, the acting, the soundtrack, the pace, that so wisely sets the foundation for the heavy loaded developements to come as the show progresses... amazing. Episodes 15 and 16 were such a rollercoaster of emotions for me... don't pay attention to the reviews of people that didn't watch It until the end. I assure you the final episodes Will blow your brains out.
If you like gripping shows, don't miss this one.

Sseul-sseul-ha-go cha-ran-ha-sin-do-ggae-bi (2016)
Disappointing story in blinding packaging...
The story, the photography, costumes, the suffering heros... everything in this show is bathed in a romantic aura that makes you think it is great, until half way through it you realize that this romantic vibe is the only romantic thing about it: The female lead acts like a 9 years old instead of a 19 years old woman, which makes it hard to feel any real chemistry between the main characters. The hero comes out as aloof at best and even cruel to her at worst. I couldn't feel the pull between them and couldn't belive it when they said they were in love. At this point, all the poetic balderdash started sounding pretentious.
But there is something really unforgivable: The writer cheats. She delivers a story that leaves the initial problems unsolved and presents them with new ones that are, in my opinion, even worse.
The only good thing about this show was the bromance between the goblin and the angel of death was, but I still felt like I had wasted my time. I think people rated this show so high blinded by the gorgeus setting and the charismatic Gong Yoo, whose frame in a turtleneck is quite something to watch.
