The Heart of Nuba (2016)
Untold story about a true humanitarian
Director Ken Carlson's feature documentary about Dr. Tom - the only doctor at the only hospital for a million people in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan - is powerful, moving and inspiring. The people of the Nuba mountains have been hidden from the West until now. According to Dr. Tom, people who come to his hospital after being bombed and injured on orders by their own government's president Omar Al- Bashir (as well as for illnesses, childbirth and leprosy for starters), have just as much value as people everywhere. This is why he stay despite danger, lack of supplies and medicines. Raised a Catholic in New York, Dr. Tom played football for Brown, and served five years in the US Navy before coming to Africa. He prays each morning to focus his day on the people he serves. I've seen the film three times and cannot say enough about it.
