The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
This movie is about the comfort zone.
Your life is an island with well-trodden paths, identical routes, and a gloomy climate. Everything in it is as you're used to; everything is in its place. Everything is stable: a stable environment, family, acquaintances, friends, a pub. Around, there are only rocks, stones, wind, and the ocean. But it all looks somewhat unsettling, empty, and incomplete. You convince yourself that this is how it should be, that it's normal. Loved ones should be close, friends should always support, new friends should appear automatically, replacing the old ones; laws should work, and the police should fulfill their duties. But no, life is much more complicated; not everything goes according to your script; interesting things happen beyond your island. On the island, you are a burden to those close to you. You may become uninteresting, not develop, stand still, but not everyone may like that. Moreover, on the island, there is a person who constantly tells you that there will be another death here, everything is hopeless, and you need to escape to the city, across the ocean. But you don't want to go across the ocean because there is a real war there.
People constantly claim that they are ready to change. They think they can easily become a better version of themselves, that they can start living a more interesting life, a life with music, but the comfort zone simply doesn't let go, and the longer you stay in it, the more it cripples you. The ending is the same - you are left with nothing. The comfort zone devours. Every day you lose opportunities. Your house is already on fire, and you continue to look at the horizon of lost opportunities, blaming anyone but yourself.
