Day Watch (2006)
1/10
A dismal attempt at movie making
25 January 2008
I finished watching this movie last night and I must say that I didn't enjoy it very much at all. The movie centers around two groups fighting to maintain the balance between light and dark. Daywatch does have a few very good special. The audio track and subtitles were available in English, Russian, and Spanish with my machine choosing Russian as the default for some unknown reason though that was easily adjusted. What little actual acting that I saw was good enough for a daytime soap opera, but that's being generous. The action sequences were few and far between but sadly the dialogue was continuous. I highly recommend that you stop watching it at the end of the first chapter if you choose to rent this movie. That's the peak of this long (in excess of two hours) and disappointing flick. To give you an idea of how bad this movie is, I rated it worse than "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and "Manos: The Hands of Fate".

Well written, fairly well acted, good fight scenes
27 September 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's destined to become one of those B-Grade cult classic sci-fi films that I love so much. That being said, my daughter asked if she could go in the lobby and play the video games at one point. The fight scenes were really well done and the graphics were down right amazing for the most part. You could really tell where the CGI ended and the models began in a few scenes though. The writing and script seemed to be very well done. Sadly, I'm sure that there are a few scenes on the editing room floor that would have helped the plot line. Backstory was provided in an enjoyable format so you don't have to know anything about the Korean folklore to understand the movie. The acting was above average for a film where the concepts were translated from Korean into U.S. concepts. There are a few things in the movie that we North American citizens probably just won't ever grasp very well. That's really just a gut feeling and I can't justify it. It was a thoroughly enjoyable film for a life-long science fiction and fantasy film.

Date Movie (2006)

One of the best comedy movies
13 July 2006
I rented this movie last night and half expected to be disappointed, but I seldom give the professional reviewers any credit to begin with. The movie was an absolute delight and so was the leading actress. She has a good sense of comedic timing and shows it off in this movie. Most of the supporting cast was chosen well with a few exceptions. Sure, I'll agree there were a few slow parts where the one-liners weren't flying at one per minute; but overall the movie was a good laugh and had a good message. I'm not sure what the message was exactly, but I'm pretty sure there was one in there somewhere. The satire was thick and popped up frequently. They must have satired thirty movies throughout the show. I know I recognized at least a dozen and I don't watch that many romance or romantic comedy movies. This is definitely one to purchase (as soon as it hits the three for $10 shelf). It belongs right up there with the Scary Movie series and the apple pie movies.

Alien Apocalypse (2005 TV Movie)

Bruce Campbell - Yeah!
7 November 2005
I just got through watching this movie and I have to say that I've seen better, but I've also seen much worse. This is one of the better b-grade sci-fi's that I've watched in a while. I agree that there a a lot of Spartacus reference's (too many) and they could have done quite a bit better with the continuity. This is what most people would consider soft science fiction because the technology, while plausible, just isn't used in a believable way. We are expected to make too many leaps of logic and to suspend our disbelief for too long. Some of the scenery is extremely nice. Also, the "deux ex machina" is used frequently, making what could be a good movie merely decent. I recommend this to any b-grade sci-fi fan, but don't expect to be swept off your feet.

Fun To Watch (in fast forward)
10 January 2005
My daughter and I found this movie in a clearance bin for only $3.00 and thought, "Why not?". Now I'm thinking of asking for a refund. The acting was very poor. Scripting was third grade level and that's being generous. I've read comic books with better lines. What little plot existed could have been improved by my six year old nephew. They re-used scenes multiple times and used some cheap stock footage to fill in some time. I guess this is what you get when people without skills or talent try to make a movie. The fight scenes reminded me of very low-brow slap-stick humor. This was supposed to be an action adventure and turned out to be a bad comedy. I feel sorry for the actors and actresses. If this didn't kill their careers then nothing will. If you are thinking of buying or renting this movie give your cash to the homeless guy in front of the liquor store instead. The money will be better spent and chances are it's one of the actors.

Ishtar (1987)
1/10
The worst movie ever produced.
11 August 2001
I remember going to see Ishtar when it was first released. I remember walking out of the theatre trying to decide if it was a comedy or a tragedy or a complete waste of time and money. I remember deciding on the latter. I tried watching it again a few weeks ago and still don't really enjoy it. There were some very funny parts, but they were few a far between. It wasn't worth the .99 cent rental.

Excellent movie that is true to the game series.
19 June 2001
This is one of the best movies that have ever been made from a game (remember "Tron"). The heart is there and Angelina Jolie plays the part well. There is very little plot here, but what do you want? It is based on a game after all. "What Women Want" is a chick-flick. What men want is to see Angelina Jolique in her Tomb Raider outfit!
