A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
Barely Watchable
There's a line in which the writer confuses hippocratic oath with HIPAA law. It may sound like nit-picking, but it was galling to a medical professional. The show is full of this kind of sloppy writing. I loved the OA, but I won't cut Brit and Zal any slack for this show. It was a boring, tedious slog. I found myself looking anywhere else. By the finale I could care less whodunit. The parts that weren't boring were irritating, like the kid's name being Zoomer - that name just annoyed me. Darby was an annoying character and others have explained that better than I can. This show was a miss for me.
The Outwaters (2022)
Experimental Horror
An experimental and cosmic horror that will not be everyone's cup of tea. It requires you to think, pay attention, and draw inferences. I noticed a lot more details on a second viewing. The desert setting is gorgeous. I don't write many reviews, but I was surprised that this movie had so many overwhelmingly negative reviews. I even saw where people didn't finish the movie yet somehow felt they could write a review of it. I do agree with what other reviewers said about the film being a bit too long. I disagree with the criticisms of it being illogical - there are clearly a couple of interpretations that could be made.
Winchester (2018)
Not a fan
I was not a fan of this movie at all. Although I would very much like to visit the real Winchester house, this movie was a mess. It was a waste of subject matter and of actor's talents. The lackluster script took a backseat to the anti-gun propaganda.
The Night House (2020)
Worth The Wait
I have been waiting to see this one. It did not disappoint! My favorite movie of 2021 so far.
Borgman (2013)
Dark humor and style
This was really fun to watch and I was thoroughly entertained! Dark humor and stylish.
The Unholy (2021)
Really bad CGI
I laughed out loud when the CGI figure rose up from the lake about 15 minutes in. It is fairly indicative of how bad the rest of the movie is.
