Mary Kom (2014)
Mary Kom: With some flaws it's still great punch !!!
What's Good: Priyanka Chopra's career best performance. What's Bad: Dramatic climax.
Bollywood always follow a trend of success.Since past few years the most successful genre is Bio-pics like Chak De India, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and now Mary Kom.This year only countable good movies have entertained us and most of them are women-oriented like Queen, Mardaani, Mary Kom.It seems like these women-oriented flicks are coming out at right time, as i have witnessed during the screening after the last punch the ladies gave standing ovation to Mary Kom.Mary Kom is about how a poor girl from Manipur made her way to top against all odds. Her struggle, her passion, her madness, her love towards Boxing made her 5 times world champion.Mary Kom might not be the best movie as it contains many flaws but still it stands strong just because of Priyanka Chopra's superb performance. She has held entire movie on her shoulder, she has given more than 100% for this bio-pic.
Performances wise its only and only Priyanka Chopra. She is totally into the character and this is by far her career best performance.Supporting cast like Darshan Kumar, Sunil Thapa, etc are nice. Omang Kumar's direction is decent but it could have been better looking to the hold of the script. Music goes with the flow, cinematography is top-notch.
Overall its a feel pride movie. Can surely recommend one-time watch.
Kick (2014)
Its silly even for Salman's standard.
What's Good: Nawazuddin Siddique is superb, Bits of Salmanism, etc. What's Bad: Direction is amateur, no quality reasoning at climax, mis-fit songs, etc
The much anticipated movie of the year has kicked hard and yes, its painful. Though i'm not a fan of the star but was expecting something decent if not great but as it opened the fuzz becomes soar. I did enjoyed the star's Ek tha tiger and dabangg series but this one fell flat.Except for few action sequences and some plot-line rest is exactly the same as the telugu version. To start with Shaina (jacqueline) is a psychiatrist and is heart broken because Devi Lal Singh (Salman Khan) entered as a heavy air in her life and made a sweet lime.Devi believes in getting KICK in every action he performs and he is addicted to the KICK of life. But suddenly his disappearance made her dull. Himanshu (Randeep Hooda) is a cop who is in search of DEVIL. He wants to catch DEVIL as he has stolen a lot of wealth. Now how their paths cross and what happens is the rest.
Salman is okay as Devi Lal Singh a romantic charmer but he is better as DEVIL. Unfortunately the director gave too much freedom to Salman and it ends in piles and piles of overacting. Some scenes are decent and some are hard to digest in the first half. Most of his fans just wants to see him fight, dance and say some dialogues which works. Jacqueline looks wonderful but her act is just flat. Randeep Hooda is wasted as a potential actor. The real hero of the movie is Nawazuddin Siddhique, his presence and act just makes you applaud. His presence is short but impact is bigger. The main DEVIL of the movie is Sajid Nadiadwala with amateur direction he brought a good plot to flat.Songs are mis-fit as they don't go with the movie. Actions are good and enjoyable to certain extend.Rajat Arora's writing is surprisingly down.End seemed more of Being Human documentary video than movie and also few questions are unanswered as When Salman is in Bus and it falls down the river, how does he escapes?. As its canvas is huge the cinematography is good.
If you are Salman fan. You might enjoy in bits and pieces.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Transformers- Age of Extinction: My perfect Summer Blockbuster this year.
How many times has it happened you go for a movie with some expectations and come out overwhelmed with the end result. Transformers: Age of Extinction did the same to me. Being a hard-core Transformers Fan since childhood i always had great expectations from the movies. Yes Transformers-1 being the best of lot, Transformers-2 kinda sucked except for actions, Transformers-3 lil better than the previous.Another sequel to the successful Transformers franchise where the story continues 4 years after the Chicago Event (Transformers-3). The Government are on a hunt for every robot(Good or Bad) and dismiss off the earth. CIA has made a deal with the Bounty Hunter (Lockdown)to rip apart every transformer and find "Optimus Prime" as the creator has some unfinished business with the Prime. Also KSI have created their own Transformers with the remaining of the dead transformers and now they have built a better and unique fighting machines. So all the Autobots are hiding and waiting for the return of their supremo PRIME. Prime has taken a form of Old damaged truck which Cade Yeager(Mark Wahlberg) happen to find. Cade is a mechanic and he lives on fixing things for people. For his surprise he finds OPTIMUS PRIME and he puts his family online to save OPTIMUS.Noticing the need of time PRIME and the rest of AUTOBOTS assemble to fix the urgency of bounty. Whether Autobots are successful in their mission or not is the rest of the plot.
Micheal Bay has again delivered what he known for "A COMPLETE BAYHEM". Being a fan of Bay movies this one is purely among my Top 10 movies. As Transformers series are known for sloppy story-line (Except 1st part), this one actually have its heart at the right place. As an audience you can connect with the mechanic and the AUTOBOTS to a better level. ILM has proved again why they are the best in VFX, VFX for this is ground breaking as they have really put to another level for this one.Action sequences are top notch. Do checkout for OPTIMUS PRIME's and BUMBLEBEE's transformation to their new form (Gave me freaking goosebumps). DINOBOTS are great but didn't satisfy completely, HOUND and SLUG were great. LOCKDOWN as the evil master was really great and stood firm against the PRIME. Wahlberg was great to what he could deliver, Stanley Tucci is a funny guy and has his own sense here,Nicola and Jack Reynor were purely average. The length of the movie might kill lilbit as its 2.46 hours long runtime, still whatever i loved this one.
Transformers: Age of Extinction is surely gonna be in my Blu-ray collection.Watch this one for sure !!!
Godzilla (2014)
GODZILLA: Stay away from this Monster.
What's Good: Back-story to some extend, bits and pieces of action sequences. What's Not: Everything else is purely illogical and BAD.
I happen to catch the screening of the new GODZILLA movie. I loved the previous GODZILLA movie by Ronald Emmerich which was released in 1998. I was truly excited about this flick and it turned out to be total DUD. To start with, a nuclear test are performed at JAPAN to observe the magnitude of the test. It somehow gives a more than life shape to a chameleon which turns out to be a GODZILLA. According to the Japanese sayings its a creature made by GOD but so they somehow allow that large creature to stay in the ocean (Arrgh). After many years an American engineer Joe Brody(Bryan Cranston-Breaking Bad fame) is working on a project and suddenly their power plant ends up getting quakes which ends up in a total mishap and broken family. Now Joe is looking out for answers for 15 years. His son Ford Brody(Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is in defense and plans to meet his dad to get back in life and they end up noticing the real reason for the mishap created 15 years ago. A new creature is born "MUTO"-Mutant Unidentified Terrestrial Organism which looks like Large Mantis who feeds only on radiation. Anything that contains radiation is his food (Arrghh again) and now its not one but TWO large mantis. Now the female MUTO wants to deliver her babies requires radiation. So to stop these MUTO's the humans think of bringing in GODZILLA, and you guys can guess how it's going to end.
So what do we see here, fight between GODZILLA and two MUTO's which sound fine but unfortunately they don't show the fight completely. C'mon they made up the situation to arrive at this point and no BIG fight. Also to mention the run-time of the movie is 2.5 hours and GODZILLA appears on screen for hardly 20 mins (KIDDING ME). Then why make a movie on GODZILLA?? coz the rest of the time they are just trying to give explanations which is purely BULLSHIT.
I invested money to see the large creature and also the huge fight. NOTHING comes your way. It's purely waste of money and time.PURELY NON-RECOMMENDED.
300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
300 - Rise of Empire: Lived up to the hype and its prequel.
To start with its not a sequel or prequel. The events taking place in the movie takes place at the same time when King Leonadius and his spartans (300) go on war with persians. Greek general Themistokles had defeated Daxos (Father of Xerxes) and now Xerxes is on a vengeance to destroy Greece with AThens and Sparta. Themistokles is more modernized leader here and plays war strategically, whereas Arthemisia(Eva green) plays the devilish persian who knows war can be won by any means ie., by betrayal, by sex, by vengeance. Entire story-line rolls around Artemisia and Themistokles as they both are on blood-run for each-other. Action sequences are beautifully shot and brilliantly executed. CGI is great with complete blood bath, where blood falling right on the screen which is kinda heavy dose. Story and screenplay is very powerful this time which creates a good line-up. Performance wise Eva Green as Artemisia is show-stellar who creates an evil aura worth applauding. Sullivan as the HERO Themistokles is decent but in some scenes he couldn't bring the anger the right emotions for the situation required. Zack synder has again given a good flick worth keeping in collection. Though movie might not be as great as 300 but it lives up-to its hype and makes it a good watch.
Highly recommended if you are 300 fan.
