Titans: Dude, Where's My Gar? (2023)
Season 4, Episode 9
9/10
A Celebration of what was
12 May 2023
As we transition to the end of the 2013 to now DC, with Titans, Doom Patrol, Star Girl and even The Flash, Snyder DC etc the episode is bittersweet as it links everything together and we go to the Gunn era 2024.

With that in mind, its a solid episode as I think Gar in Titans' run does not get much runtime or character development, as the big hitters like Raven to Dick get majority of it. So im happy that we got this deep dive into him and his origin.

Overall, I think its a standout episode from this season and makes you look back at the past, present and hopeful for the future that maybe these characters will come back, even with the same actors.

This aint it Chief

Yeah firstly love the film, nothing can top Tom Hanks, and the cast from the film, even Madonna acted better than everyone here.

The main thing is, they twisted the story so much that its basically what they did with RIngs of Power. Also instead of a show about Girl Power, they basically made the show about being LGBT at the time. Seriously, 75% of the cast seems to be part of that persuasion. Not only that but even promotes cheating and being unfaithful, very bad morals.

There are some cool parts here and there, but still this is just generic and there is more focus on forbidden romances than actual Baseball.

The saying of if they should rings a bell
3 September 2022
Look, just because you can make something doesn't mean you should do it.

This fails basically in everything minus the VFX. I was going to say visual, but the world doesn't scream "Tolkein". Even the way they talk just sounds off and of a fantasy world.

In terms of the characters, basically 90% of the cast I dislike nor care about, it's very hard to get attached to anyone. Also I do not like how this show weaponizes "memmerberries". Like, remember the superior LotR movies? Well lets link the show, but not in a narrative sense but "there is a wizard, hes probably Gandalf, but we cant say".

Also this show from the get go was doomed to fail, as adapting something and referencing things you don't have rights to is flawed thinking. Somehow get Peter Jackson involved and start again.

Overall Id say this is a blip and will be forgotten 10 years from now, and only serve as a warning, nothing more.

So far so good
22 August 2022
As someone who has read all Fire & Ice media along with other fantasy novels, this is promising much like the start of Game of Thrones and hope it continues.

This is leagues better than the last 2/3 seasons of Game of Thrones and in another world compared to the bad adaptation of Wheel of Time and more than likely Rings of Power too. This is the one to watch.

Accurate so far

Love the comics, so far are following them well and adding some extra.

My real only gripe is some of the casting choices. Clearly didn't get the best people for the job for some characters. Also missing that 80s new wave look. Also can applaud the dream like aesthetics in some shots, but others look flat.

First Season good, Second not so much
22 July 2022
Loved the first season, lots of amazing insights about cultural events and trends and all that.

Dropped it from a 9 to 7, is due to Season 2 seems to a very heavy focus on social justice, I think someone came in and was a BLM activist.

Just feel like there is so much more to the 90s as it was in the first season, and the pivot is so sharp. The only episode of season 2 I like is the UFC origins one.

Why is it so hard to make a faithful Resident Evil Movie/TV
15 July 2022
I just don't get it. At least with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City that stealthily came out late last year kind of had the right tone and at least had the characters present. Sure, they weren't exactly like the games but they could improve on it, not to mention actually feels like Resident Evil.

This is basically using it in name and using Wesker and that's it. All you got to do is have the right characters, have it a bit campy with some horror elements and that is it.

This will be one of those TV shows that is forgotten and used as a trivia note and 8 years later pop up on a Youtube video essay being like "remember that bad Resident Evil Show"

Thank you for ruining a great legacy
6 June 2022
TBH thats all i really had to say. Either way your culture got representation. Apu will forever live on and you will live in mediocrity and the person who not only killed off a great character, but someone who I enjoyed to watch in The Simpsons.

Learned a lot about Indian culture and now you basically played yourself.

They Don't Make Shows Like This Anymore
6 May 2022
Love, love, love this show.

The energy, the pace, the insights and the performances are amazing. Not only that but I feel like you could easily make this into a series about different movies and the behind the scenes.

I love the script and the performances of every character. Past few years there have been shows that are passable. This is one of those essential shows to watch for years to come.

Solid Effort
4 May 2022
This was a pleasant surprise when this showed up on my Youtube feed.

I miss when Youtube was filled with content like this. Shows like Video Game High Shcool put Freddie Wong and others put their effort into something. Mystery Incorporated you can see the labor of love the people making it have and wanted to tell the story.

This is an amazing effort for something fanmade and no studio backing. Sure there are things that could be better with more money and crew, something like the 3rd act of the first episode could of been shown in a higher takes. Or more shots that are not just profile view of characters. But what it's dealing with, as shooting with extras and locations would be a headache on a small budget. So either way its good for what it is.

The characters, from one episode you get more or less motivation for all of the Scooby crew and their personalities. I can see the chemistry between Velma and Fred, and would love to see more as the show progresses.

Of course, let's talk the obvious comparisons to Riverdale. I like Riverdale because it's as cheesy as it's source material. This does the same, but could touch on also how Buffy use to be and be it's own thing.

Either way all I can say is keep it up, and hope to see more and more would building, I am curious and want to know more.

Yes I am writing a review because that scene pushed this episode to legendary status.

Aside from that more Flash like this would be great, shows this long have some good and bad but this episode is a highlight.

This was a big surprise, especially over the past few years, every so-so scripts.

When people talk in this, it's so smart and engaging.

Small things like "there is a bug, it's small like... well you know". Small things like that makes everyone feel snappy, and their own character.

Also great performances that goes along with the script. It's smart and we need more films and scripts like this.

This season is different but great
8 April 2022
Basically there seems to be a throughline with this season so far that basically pokes at the current social climate in a comedic way.

I generally hater when people try to shove a political agenda to something, however it's done in a subtle and thematic way that it's actually good.

Really fresh, Atlanta always cuts though the BS of the "We was kangz" narrative. Which like the episode before it was on about having someone else being offended for you.

Why?

Why did you raceswap key and iconic Halo characters? If you're a fan of the Halo universe, your just getting diverse stuff.

Aside from that im happy there is a Halo tv show, but do some more homework.

The New James Gunn?
11 March 2022
This came out of nowhere, but you got a great cast with great performances.

For Jon McDonald's more or less first bigger release I enjoy his style, it reminds me of James Gunn's early work, so looking forward to whatever he does next.

Really enjoyed my time with these character and would like to see something more in this universe.

I like the throwback to something older.

So disgusting
20 February 2022
It's actually crazy that people these days can be so openly racist, greenlight a whole tv show even.

I hurts me to know people are being judged by their colour of their skin still.

We get it, lets send THE MESSAGE to everyone and everything.

Even if you do care about THE MESSAGE, still its such a trope at this point for all entertainment past 6 years. If anyone in Hollywood were good writers or directors they would buck the trend and do something different.

Fact and issue is everything has become homogenized, that everything looses its identity.

Good Episode

More character development and some action.

I'd say the only negative I can see is just a random "relationship" issue that is so so. Just let the nerdy guy be with the girl.

Netflix DNA
1 January 2022
I love this show, I've loved it since day one on Youtube.

I knew once it hit Netflix it was a two blade sword.

It would reach the audience it deserves, but also Netflix will cram in their "message" much like everything they make. Season 3 got away with it, but Season 4 they include "The agenda".

Still love the show, but it can go downhill very quick if they keep on mandating stuff with these new characters.

Why you do this?
10 December 2021
Been reviewing episode by episode. 4 & 5 have been good. This episode is not great.

Changing characters like Moraine all the way to not care about the Dragon or Matt's story is really annoying. We want more focus on the actual story of the books.

So far only Episodes 4 & 5 seem to have good exploration of character and strong character moments. I think my issue with some areas really is what are the showrunners focusing on.

This episode is what im looking for in this show.

A slower pace, character moments, knowing more and more about the world naturally and understanding the characters and their personalities.

Please, do not do what the previous episodes did and rush it.

Better than Episode 1
20 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So this is much better paced that the previous episode.

It isn't perfect but so far so good, feels quick but the plot demands it, I am disappointed tho with Shadar Logoth. Should of been there a bit longer, has more moments like with Matt & Perrin.

I feel as a book reader there is not only so much missing, but not that many character moments.

Was happy there were some here, and got more of the characters fleshed out as well as their desires.

Basically all I'm saying is, the show so far is lacking good dialogue.

Too quick, no substance?
20 November 2021
Sorry Rafe Judkins. Please hand the show off if you cannot do the following.

Big WoT fan and following the audience before its release.

Here are things that needs to change to make this great.

1. Pacing - I know you've got a lot to adapt but it's going so quick your missing amazing moments from the books.

2. Character moments - We are missing great character moments, where they just sit and talk or do things together so we feel a bond or connection to the characters.

3. Script - Basically the top 3 points are all about dialogue. Just adapt page to page rather than interpretations, something like early season of GoT, give us 7 minutes per episode of good scripts.

4. Cinematography - I do not like shaky cam action, it isn't clear, get the actors to train more with fighting and get a action DP. This along with the landscapes, you've got amazing sets and area in Europe, use them, use many establishing shots.

Overall I am disappointed that its not only going so fast, but making the characters not the characters from the books. Pending a change in review in the coming episodes and hopefully longer than 8 seasons, but if it's at this quality, it is sub-par and can be better.
