The Final Destination (2009)
Waste of time and money
The Final Destination. A film revolving around four teenagers who escape a massive race car crash after one of them has the premonition it was going to happen. This film is similar to the other movies from the "Final Destination" series.
Overall, this is a very bad film. To begin with, this movie has, pretty much, the same idea and plot as the other films in series. They are about somebody (let's say Fred) having a premonition that something bad is going to happen, say a plane crashing into a motel. Fred then saves some people from the motel before the plane crashes. When the plane finally crashes, those people who are saved are hunted by "Death" so they can be killed, because when their time came, they managed to escape. The acting in this film is actually pathetic. Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Hayley Webb and Nick Zano star as the teenagers and most of the time, you can tell they are trying. I believe these actors are new to the business (if you research them, you will see they have not starred in many films) and so they do not have much experience. Perhaps they will improve. The special effects were okay in some parts. I will not spoil anything, but do not get too excited over the animation and FX. The screenplay in the film was...well it was decent. Some of the jokes were funny, especially the racist joke, but I won't spoil it. There are two jokes, however one of them was not supposed to be taken as a joke as a man is referred to as a "nigger", but that is just offensive. Some of the lines were a bit on the cliché side, especially the fact that the story has been repeated three times - just differently.
In conclusion, do not go and see the movie. Sure, it's in 3D and it's slightly entertaining but the 3D isn't taken advantage of most of the time. This movie should be the final destination for the Final Destination series. A lot of time and money has been wasted.
Chicken Run (2000)
A good film for the family...but not Oscar-winning like Happy Feet
Slightly based on the 1963 film The Great Escape comes the egg of that chicken and the child appropriation, Chicken Run , starring Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson as the two main characters. The movie is not a "chick flick", but the directors and writers Peter Lord and Nick Park make it "eggcellent".
The claymation/stop-motion movie is set in Britain in the 1950's and is about a group of chickens in a coop who are being raised and will be killed when they stop laying their eggs. However, the main chicken, Ginger (Julia Sawalha) leads the optimism of the group and believes they can escape. The chooks have attempted to escape their pen a multiple of times, but have always failed. But then Rocky (Mel Gibson), a rooster who accidentally flies into their pen, is forced to help all the chickens to escape the pen because he can fly. It turns out he is actually escaping himself from the circus.
The voice-over performances of the chickens were average. They were not the best, I believe. However I think that's not really the point of a movie like this. Films like Wallace & Gromit, Harvie Krumpet and the famous Russian short, Peter and the Wolf, are not supposed to demonstrate the voice-over talents of the actors, but more importantly, they are meant to show off the clay art and the skillful editing (Robert Francis, Tamsin Parry, Mark Solomon).
The main thing about this movie that made me "crack up" like an egg was Craig Atkinson's modelling of the chickens. All the way through the movie, I could not help but laugh at the chooks' mouths. They are so funny and absolutely ridiculous and to hear a funny female British accent with words like "Is she going' on a holiday?", just make it a lot more hilarious. The cinematography is great, especially the lighting (in my opinion) and so I say "Well done!" to Andy MacCormack and Paul Smith.
I think it's clever that a movie that's a true story revolving around a concentration camp in the Second World War was transformed into a children's' movie about...well...chickens!! Originally, in The Great Escape, the Jews were being controlled by Nazis and in Chicken Run, the chickens are being controlled and killed by a nasty pommy couple. Which is worse, we might ask! I think if you want a great family animation film with a great story, entertaining animation and a good moral, then definitely watch Chicken Run.
Overall, this movie is decent. The story was well adapted, the modelling and animation was funny and very effective. I thought the style was hilarious (especially the mouths). The actors were not especially good, but the female British accents were enjoyable to watch. However, my complaint is clearly contradicted by the film's Golden Globe nomination for best animation/musical.
In conclusion I would say that this movie should be watched by everyone who wants a good laugh.
Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007)
Funny and absolutely ridiculous.
I was looking forward to seeing this movie the day it had come out because I think Rowan Atkinson is a comedic genius (especially with that face). I saw it at a birthday party, so that would be fun. I thought the movie was silly really. But it was really hilarious. It lost some marks though because the humor was really childish, seriously. And the events that happen are extremely unlikely. The part where the bus ticket fell into a Chicken Pen just got me. But I still laughed at that part. And Carson Clay's movie called Playback was stupid. That movie wouldn't even go on the big screen because it made everybody fall asleep. I am still getting the movie on DVD just for fun entertainment.
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
Absolutely hilarious!!!
This movie is the funniest movie I have ever seen. I watch it every single day, it's so good. Mike Myers is brilliant the way he acts and Dr. Seuss...a genius. It's too bad that he's dead now, but the movie was incredibly funny. Mike, Dakota, Spencer, Alec and the actor for Joan Walden are very good actors. Dakota Fanning is so cute in it! This is the best movie in the world. It's got great animation too. I like the Super Luxurious Omnidirectional Whatchamajigger (SLOW) and the Super Hydraulic Instantanious Transporter (S..oh, quick to the slow!)Bo Welch and the crew obviously worked very hard. But, I think it's extremely underrated. People SHOULD be watching it and I don't see how people think it's bad. IT'S EXTREMELY FUNNY!!!!!
House M.D. (2004)
An educational and thrilling TV show!!!
This show is very good. I was watching this show recently and I really liked it! I kept on watching it on an aeroplane too. It's a very good show. I think it's educational and it helps me with my education. Because, when I grow up I would like to become a Surgeon and this show can tell me what these doctors have to do to cure different patients. Except, I gave it a 9, because I'm not too sure of what Dr. House actually is. Is he a Surgeon? Is he the leader of the hospital? Is he a General Practioner? What job does Gregory House actually have in the General Hospital? But, other than that, this show is fantastic and there is only one more episode until the show is finished.
Command & Conquer: Renegade (2002)
Great graphics, but wrong level order!
I have only just finished this game and I really enjoyed it. The graphics were very good and each character fitted in well with the game. My favourite part of the game is the actual gameplay and the music. The music is very impressive. Every now and again, I hum the game tune. I love it! Except, there are a few things about this game that I am a bit concerned about. I think the second level is harder than the fourth level. That's what my friend and I didn't like about the game. And also when you kill soldiers, instead of blood, there's kind of a red smokey object coming out of them and I'm not quite sure what that is meant to represent. But other than that, I really liked the game. And it's awesome that this game features Multiplayer Games.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Fabulous animation! Fabulous acting! Fabulous music!
Now, I own this movie and one night when I watched it at home, I was fascinated by it. I think that the main soundtrack to it really fits in with the genre. The music sounds like magic! Another thing is, the acting is outstanding especially by Rupert Grint. He's a brilliant actor when it comes to being scared. But my favourite thing about this movie is the animation. The hippogrith that Hagrid owns looks real. The domentors look really freaky and all this clever animations look like it's actually there! But the reason that it lost a mark was because Albus Dumbledore sounds younger than the second and the first and I understand why. Also I thought Dumbledore's last actor was better than his new one. But I still think the movie is fantastic.
Everybody Hates Chris (2005)
This is a show where they show viewers about Chris Rock when he was a child.
I have seen a lot of these episodes on the plane and in my living room and I couldn't stop watching them! They are so funny! Also, I'm very impressed by the acting skills. The music in this TV show is also very good. Every time when I hear the theme song of it, I keep dancing because it's so catchy! Chris Rock and Ali LeRoy must be professionals at making this. But the reason I gave it a 9, is because I don't think that Chris had this child life because some of things are very harsh. But, I think this show is very funny except I don't think Chris Rock's child life is really shown in the TV shows. But other than that, the show is fantastic.
