Okay, so it's not the GREATEST Bollywood movie, and sure the plot has been lifted - I've seen a LOT of lifted plots from Hollywood, including one of "Analyze This". Doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the movie in the least. In fact, as an intense movie fan much like yourselves, I find it interesting to see how the story will play out with a Bollywood twist.
Actually, one of my favorite movies is "Bride & Prejudice", a storyline completely and totally lifted from Jane Austen (AND a few movie versions of the same story, here and there), and it was brilliant in my opinion.
There isn't a story out there that hasn't already been told in some other way, and instead of being upset that his work was lifted, I would think that the original writer of "Hitch" might see it as "Imitation is the highest form of praise". It means "Hitch" was a good movie and the story was good enough to be used with a dash of curry to spice it up a bit. However, I would have at least given him a credit in the form of a "Inspired by" note in the titles. On that point, everyone is absolutely correct.
Plagiarism in the form of completely lifting entire plots and even scenes is indeed pushing it, but I doubt there will be any court hearings over it, as I don't exactly see people passing over "Hitch" in favor of "Partner" in their local video store. However, "Partner" WILL, more than likely, direct viewers to go and do as you all say here - go rent "Hitch" and give it a watch! I take Bollywood in the way it is meant - to entertain, inspire, and teach life lessons so sweetly, even Aristotle couldn't pass it up! Besides, when the heroes are as handsome as Salman Khan, who can help but watch and get addicted?
